8/19 GT - White Sox @ Cubs (1:20pm CT)

Newcomb vs. Holmes. Unclear if they are calling anyone up to eat some innings today (Thorpe is today’s SP for Charlotte) or if they plan to just go with Urquidy as the bulk guy.

Regardless, no pep talk from me today. The Sox’s offense needs to step up big and take some pressure off of a beaten down pitching it. That’s it…that’s the entire plan. Three or four runs won’t be enough, so score early and score often.

Let’s fucking go!

Gotta score some runs!

Score some runs. Call up somebody to start the game. Whatever the outcome, the abuse of the bullpen and reluctance to bring up ANYBODY to help them out is just negligent at this point. Thorp, Smith l, even Schultz. This 3 starters and 2 bp games is unsustainable

Not Sandlin? McDougal?

And stop throwing fastballs right down the middle to PCA.

Much easier said than done...but why they keep challenging him instead of treating him like CLE Josh Naylor or prime Jose Ramirez is beyond me.

Let's start with not spotting them 2 runs in the first inning by throwing BP pitches to PCA.

I was fine with Getz moves at the deadline at the time, but after watching this all play out.. why the F did they not get 2 more starters? This is really embarrassing to try to win a division with 3 starters.

They hoped Davis Martin would get right and not sure why they bumped Fedde from a spot and then have not replaced him. I have no statistical proof but the opener does not seem to work for them.

They should have looked to extend Newcomb deeper and see what they had. He had a great game in June I think it was, and then they went away from it.

Their decisions surrounding the pitching staff have been odd.

How does your closer not close either of these last two games? Hicks was the choice Monday but not Tuesday? I non idiot catcher and Hicks gets the save Monday.

And, 1 bad call by ump helped beat Hicks. He could not recover.

Sure. Honestly anyone to eat innings at the beginning of ballgames right now.

I'm gonna be salty for awhile about that umpire report card site that said the home plate ump's calls gave the Cubbys a run in game 1. Sox should have won Monday in regulation so I'm still pissed.

They need to figure this pitching out if they are serious about winning in the postseason. This is negligence and unsustainable.

Shane Smith looked bad again yesterday

2.0 IP, 1 H, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 2 ER

Hoping for him to figure it out this year is a huge waste of time, he's bad

They just need to make a big splash in free agency

Yeah, the Sox can't rely on him so this point. I'm just assuming he won't be back.

It’s like if 2020 was a longer season

Plenty of arms out there. Try to jump the gun early and before lockout

Would be nice to see the Sox lay off offspeed below the zone today. Starting to feel like the 2013-2018 era when soft tossing lefties like Bruce Chen were the bane of our existence.

They'll need to spend a lot if there really will be a salary floor. Just throw the fucking kitchen sink at Skubal. I feel like Jerry's "principles" will get in the way though. We know how he feels about signing pitchers to big deals. Even if we have a salary floor to hit, I think he'll be a gigantic prick about it.

Good old Cy Chen
