Howie Kendrick to the DL with a broken finger. As Tim Kurkjian put it last night, the Angels are a bat short when they have a full, healthy lineup, and now they're missing Kendrick and Guerrero.

Ryan Howard has a sprained ligament in his left leg.

Charlie Manuel (Phillies manager) went all Bobby Knight ape-sh*t on the media in his press conference and in the locker room last night.

Bobby Cox signed a 1 year extension through 08.

Willie Aybar was suspended indefinitely for skipping a game.

Jose Lopez signed with the Mariners through 2011.

From Jason Stark at ESPN.com

Just when we'd decided it made no sense for baseball to try to schedule opening week around the weather, an assistant professor from Western Kentucky checked in to make us think otherwise. Greg Goodrich did a study on the historical frequency of lousy April baseball weather in six cold-weather cities. And he recommends that if baseball could avoid scheduling any homestands in those cities before April 10, it would reduce the chances of running into snow and sub-40 temperatures by (ready?) 80 percent. Yeah, 80. For instance, he says, the chances of a game in Detroit or Cleveland getting "weathered" out before April 10 is about once every two years. Afterward? It balloons to once every 10 to 20 years. Pretty impressive. You can read his whole study here. Now if he could just scrape that sleet off our windshield.

Are you SURE it's not April 1?

From Rotoworld, spot-on reaction:

There has never been any team more consistently stupid in setting up a bullpen.

The Phils are going to make me look like a complete idiot for picking them to win the wild card. Charlie Manuel is a terrible manager too. Geeze, talk about a waste of talent.

I just have an image of Boras smoking a huge cigar laughing his ass off like master criminal

He's going to make a boatload of money this off-season when he opts out.

and they wouldn't even give him up for Buehrle. Good riddance.

per rotoworld

Humberto Sanchez underwent Tommy John surgery and will miss the rest of the season.

The Yankees kept calling Sanchez's problem inflammation, but it's no surprise it turned out to be far more serious, especially on the heels of some similar troubles last year in the Tigers organization. The missed season only makes it more likely that his future is in the bullpen, not in the rotation.

Runner trying to steal.....ball four is called. Runner slides past the base and is tagged out. He is out. If he stops walks and stops on second he is safe. Out for over sliding.

That is insane.

Now the fans start to throw stuff on the field.

Only at the shrine.

Murton swings first pitch and ends the game.

Wow.

Santo is going to take a swing at someone.
