i hated that idea and then trade from the beginning, but i can't fault the logic.

At some point in time, be it this year, next year, 5 years from now, if the White Sox want this sustained success that has been mentioned, they are going to have to hand out some really huge contracts, and be prepared for some of them to not quite work.

I'm okay with Upton if they get rid of Melky and trade Eaton.

For the life of me, I don't understand this obsession with moving Eaton. Why in the world would you sign a $100m+ outfielder just to cancel the gain out by getting rid of a similarly valuable outfielder who makes 80% less money?

Yes, but the vast majority wind up finding other fields of work. There is no reason at all to replace Adam Eaton with a prospect unless you really like when the White Sox aren't very good.

and in essence i can't fault that point but there is one however, that line in the sand of when prospect should debuting in the mlb has always been moved, so the results that many are expecting to see may chg's from situation to situation.

Justin Upton does not make this team a contender. This seems like a KW move all the way.

That's what people said about Dunn. If Upton comes here and fails to perform up to his past numbers, which seems to happen all too often, it could turn ugly.

I have a hard time believing scouts like Upton's defense. I hope its average, but it seemed pretty universsal when the padres put that OF together last year that their defense was going to be horrible. I don't remember hearing a "but Upton's not so bad"

1. Yes, signing a guy to a contract that will hamstring the purse strings while not addressing deficiencies is such a White Sox move. Ignoring improving things like defense with the thought that HR's are all that matters at the end of the day. Go back and look at the teams that have won the WS since 2010. The commonalities are top shelf defense, good baserunning, and guys that put a lot of balls in play. But the White Sox say screw that, lets hit taters.

3. Yes. It does no good to get someone on base when the guy behind him makes an unproductive out. I believe that the money could be distributed to upgrade multiple positions OBP without costing the Sox draft pick compensation. Power is really overrated by too many people and too many guys are getting a pass on K's. If you get guys on base and put the ball in play you increase your chances of scoring more often. Relying on the HR ball leads to offensive peaks and valleys.

Kenny Williams (and this has Williams written all over it) is ridiculously obsolete. This stuff doesn't work. But the Sox do it year after year after year.

 

Where does Trayce fit into this? They don't even have the patience to find out if 2015 was at least somewhat real? He could decline .100 OPS points and still really help the team.

only when his light twr pwt is one sided. decent avg, homerun power and then the K's can be forgiven esp if it is within the realm of the avg.

I know the Gold Glove award has become a bit of a joke, but Upton was a finalist last year.

 

The article talking about him being a finalist for a gold Glove says his range hasn't been great, but he's been playing in some pretty big ball parks.

With regards to Upton, he has a lot of good tools on defense but just makes dumb mistakes.
