The Chicago White Sox, believing they can make a playoff push in 2020, are willing to pay a huge price for free agent starter Zack Wheeler, and have engaged in preliminary trade talks with the Los Angeles Dodgers for power-hitting outfielder Joc Pederson, according to two people with direct knowledge of the talks.

I guess Bob Nightengale is full of shit unless he writes something fans like.

He's Kenny's BFF.

I mean he is.  But we were on him last year and it's not like RF has been solved.

What kind of offer do we think lands Joc?

Pilkington/Flores and maybe some lower level guy. Joc strictly is a platoon player with one year of control left on a $8,5 mil contract and is clearly expendable for the Dodgers. He doesn't have a ton of value.

That was before Bummer was good.  It wouldn't be realistic to trade him now for 1 year of Joc.  This was last year.

Pederson is worth more than that on the trade market, especially coming off a 3.0 WAR season.

Sox clearly are assessing the free agenct prices of Ozuna/Castellanos, compared to trade prices of guys like Joc and Starling Marte.

Kinda hoping they're leaking this because they're trying to get a FA OF to come down on price or are talking to another team about a trade.

Can Joc play CF?

He can probably fake it.

I like Joc a lot and I don't think any prospect outside of Robert/Madrigal/Vaughn would really be off the table but I don't know what else we could really offer the Dodgers.

He's too raw.  He'd prefer Billy Hamilton.
