2020 Election Thoughts

Look at you - giving the right a hard time for them not believing an election is fixed and here you are with your first order of business to just rig things to the other side. Totally hypocritical and an awful look if that is what the parties were to do.

You are really off base. Bad take. The system is rigged. How depressing and the next two years will see pushback on voting rights.

With Liz Cheney's most recent statement it looks like Trump will definitely be the 1st President impeached twice and he is angling to be the first one ever convicted.

Kinda surprised the fire extinguisher guy hasn't been found yet, with that clear picture

Exactly. You want to talk about a rigged system, there you go. Strongly outvoted for the Senate, yet still almost kept control. Outvoted in the House by five million, yet still gained seats. Lost the Presidency by 8 million votes nationally, yet came within 40k across three states of winning it again. Taking measures to make a more representative and equitable system is the opposite of rigging.

Changing the system would require the entities with the power to voluntarily give it up.  Good luck with that one.

Impeachment is easy.  Conviction would require getting 17 Republican senators to vote for it.  An effort doomed to fail and also ruin the careers of every R senator who went along.  Good luck with that one too.

Is there a "critical mass" of House Republicans voting for impeachment that gives Senators enough cover to vote to convict?

What a Karen. The metal detectors wouldn't be there if it wasn't for people like her inciting a riot.

Anyway guys...for those of you that think socialism is a dirty word:

I want an economy that works for everyone, no matter their minority or majority status.

I want a government whose policies reflect the will of the people rather than those who can contribute the most money to campaign funds.

To make a long story short.

You can make that happen without socialism, you can do so with compromise and progress.

Liz Cheney - "there has never been a greater betrayal by a president."

Yeah, that whole Iraq war thing that was started by Bush and orchestrated by your dirtbag father was a pretty big betrayal to this country. The guy is a war criminal. If anybody knows how to spot a dirtbag politician, it is her.

Regardless of whether Cheney and co started that war for revenge, because they believed it was the best thing for the US, or that it would make them richer...I'm pretty sure that inciting a mob to head to Congress and try to take hostages, kill Americans, and overthrow the government still actually does win.

Another unspoken Trump tenet is derision for the establishment GOP guys like Bush, Powell, Romney, McCain... they're largely getting lumped in together with Biden, Obama and the Clintons as globalists.

Arguable, but that's a debate for the political scientists.

My mistake is that I assumed most people could understand that social democracy and modern democratic socialism are only slightly different.

That's my bad.

I'm with Pence for rejecting the 25th amendment to remove him.  It's clearly intended for a disabled president, not one committing impeachable offenses.  And impeachment is going to fail, although delaying the process 100 days while Congress tries to fix all the other bad stuff is a good idea.

But when you consider intentions, I don't think the Founding Fathers intended that every mouth breather should have the right to an arsenal of war weapons in his garage. Ahh, maybe they did. 😮

Certainly looks like Trump will be the first president to be impeached twice.  And, if reports are accurate, it's looking more likely that conviction is possible.  My prediction is that he'll be impeached, and McConnell will tell Trump he needs to resign or he'll be convicted.  Trump will resign early next week, and Pence will be the 46th president...for a day or two.

If Trump is convicted, he will not be allowed to run for office again.  If he resigns, he could still run again is 2024.  I don't think it's likely, and even if he did I don't see the GOP backing him again.  He could resign and still maintain his innocence, blathering and blaming all the way.
