  2. "Southside Samurai" was eventually copied by mlb.com fwiw. Plus, you already have the Japanese national/WBC teams called Team Samurai in reference to their fighting spirit/honor/discipline.
  3. That seems astoundingly low. Weren't all the predictions in the $1.5-2 billion range...without a roof?
  4. M.Maldonado made it to July 17th
  5. With all the days off built into the series that makes sense. They don’t need a 13th pitcher and having an extra bat/baserunner/defensive replacement makes a lot of sense.
  6. @kapkomet calling me right after the last out made it perfect.

  8. Pretty interesting the divergent paths for the 3 big Japanese rookies. Mune, unexpectedly the last one standing in the playoff field, really impacted the team and has been capturing hearts and minds even outside of Chicago with his various viral moments. Okamoto performed well and seems comfortable in Toronto, though with less national profile/attention and with the team falling short around him. Still, the Toronto FO was quick to talk about continuing to pursue more Japanese talent after their season ended. And then Imai...doesn't seem like he quite found his footing in Houston. Struggled as a starter, was actually pretty good in relief, but they just stopped using him. Only 18 innings/8 games after his move to the pen in late July even though he was pitching well (certainly better than a few guys they did use). He reportedly had an incentive for 80+ innings, and I guess HOU was determined not to pay it...maybe an attempt to alienate him into opting out? Pretty rough look that I can't imagine helps them with future NBP recruitment efforts. I'm curious to see what Imai decides. $18 million is a lot of money, but hard to put a price on your personal happiness/comfort.
  9. I read they are keeping the same roster as the wild card round
  10. he rings like a guy that bounces around, starting here or there. JMO
  11. I sadly remember in 95 the realization that the Indians had passed the Sox, and they were now the class of the division
  12. Bears’ Illinois stadium talks shift toward public ownership model https://www.chicagobusiness.com/news/ccb-bears-stadium-public-ownership-20261002/
  13. Hawk gets a lot of crap for the Fisk to left field thing, but it was an idea that Tony LaRussa had been talking about in 1985. So it was LaRussa’s idea.
  14. The Braves lost every other year they went. Cleveland is the one team they could beat. I'm just surprised with that many ALCS/WS appearances they couldn't even win one.
  15. Yes, because no existing stadiums of Big 4 sports franchises exist around rail yards. It's not like the most famous arena in the entire United States of America was built on top of literally the busiest passenger train station in the country in New York City, right? Why do you insist on just making stuff up to get mad about?
  16. From the booth you just watch the OF, amazing nobody ever helped him with that or he just couldn't figure it out.
  17. The only person worse at judging fly balls than Benetti was Bryce Harper this week
  18. I mean Jason was just as clueless as John. Find someone that knows the game a bit. Enough to know that 20 times out of 21 you're not swinging 3-0.
  19. The forum is a reflection of the fans who are most invested in the team. I know teams do pay attention to what is going on online with their fans
  20. The option for anything to be built at 35th street would be foreclosed if a massive railroad repair, and switching yard is dug in from Cermak to 39th street. The scope of that project was even greater than Sox ownership and management anticipated, and in all likelihood far more intrusive and expansive than most White Sox fans can even imagine. IMO, the prospective future owner has gone down the wrong path. Now is the time to pause and take stock in what is best for the team and the fans, respect and defer to the history and traditions of the Sox on the South side for over 120 years. No owner would have even suggested moving the the Yankees or Red Sox to a train yard because they had an option to buy a substandard parcel there. Shovels in the ground? There is no approved site plan or building plan so forget that 77. And as the self-appointed expert here on new stadiums tell me how the railyard plan compares to recent stadiums - baseball or football. Your urgency to get shovels in the ground before objections to the rushed plan speaks volumes. And this, in the midst of a play-off run.
  21. Here’s a quick photoshop of what a stadium footprint would look like. I chose to use Allegiant Stadium because the Bears’ renders take heavy inspiration from it. You’d have to bend/close a part of 35th Street, but a stadium could definitely fit there. Probably not, I just thought it was a cool thought experiment.
  22. I'm going to be really curious what Dan and ZIPS projects for Peters next year. I'd imagine it's something like 230/290/350 and around 1.5 fWAR (8 runs with the glove or so). But, they don't play the game on a spreadsheet, otherwise the Sox would be in Cancun this week instead of the ALDS.
