  1. Past hour
  2. But that makes him unavailable for days. I would imagine it is him.
  3. Good question. I was going to say Schweitzer, but as well as he pitched in relief...
  4. Is Schultz any better than Schweitzer?
  5. Here’s an extremely early view of how the 40 man roster could shake out ahead of next year’s Rule 5 draft: Infielders (9): Murakami, Meidroth, C. Montgomery, Vargas, J. Gonzalez, Acuna, Baldwin, Murray, Bergolla* Outfielders (6): Antonacci, Peters, B. Montgomery, Benintendi, Pereira, Perez Catchers (3): Teel, Quero, Romo Starting Pitchers (11): Martin, Burke, Schultz, Kay, S. Smith, McDougal, Sandlin, Thorpe, Bush, H. Smith*, Adams* Relievers (11): Taylor, Dominguez, Hicks, W. Gonzalez, Berroa, Vasil, Hudson, Murphy, Schweitzer, Rock, Palette* Free Agents (5): Newcomb, Fedde, Richards, Grichuk, Hays DFAs (7): Davitt, Cannon, Gilbert, Eisert, Leasure, Davis, Nishada This assumes we fully load ahead of the Rule 5 when in reality we likely leave a few spots open for free agents. Ignoring that for now, there are 12 total roster exits due to free agency and DFAs. There are four roster additions with Hagen, Mason, & Bergolla being highly probable adds. Palette is the 4th guy I included as I think some RH reliever will be added this season, but could also be Iriarte or Franklin. Those two plus Gowens, Batista, & Carella would be left unprotected. Looking at our roster “needs”, I’d expect the Sox to add a legit TOR starter in free agency and at least try to bring back Newcomb. Another RH reliever is a possibility. Backup catcher would be another upgrade option, but my guess is they bring in a non roster invite to challenge Quero. Are they comfortable with Everson & Perez filling the Grichuk role? If not, one of them probably goes. Very possible another three or four guys would have to go and this is when you really start seeing the roster crunch. Obviously this is a good problem to have, but it’s also why you see elite organizations like the Rays dump “fringe” major leaguers for cash like they did with Peters.
  6. Today
  7. Schweitzer will be sent down today. Eisert is probably the next reliever on the chopping block. Hudson, Newcomb, & Murphy (if the June version is real) will stick on the 26 man roster.
  8. Catcher development is usually slower with the bat lagging due to a focus on the defensive side of things.
  9. Yeah not sure a struggling 23-year old in High A will contribute anything ever but I guess they wanted to clear a 40-man spot.
  10. We’re simply not in the position to sell high on anyone really. I don’t know how you’re a rebuilding team and can be selling low.
  11. The draft can’t come soon enough. I get twisted in circles weighing Roch, Emerson, and Lackey… can only imagine how the front office feels. It will be nice to see the pick and evaluate the draft as a whole - read the opinions ranging from b**** doom fest to pie in the sky celebratory. Alexi Ramirez days left folks.
  12. Yea, after digging into his stats there was a pretty glaring 5/9 BB rate staring me in the face. 😆
  13. Surprised some are upset about this. You can have success in the minors walking 5 guys per 9 innings but that crap isn’t going to fly in the majors. Not sure what Getz’s obsession is with stocking catchers, but I doubt Peoples is any sort of loss. He’s a lottery ticket for a reliever that couldn’t lower his walk rate and was going to be gone soon either way.
  14. The thought when we win the lottery was roch was the guy because he could come up with this team within 1 year and be part of this window of prospects. Now we have an infield of mune, vargas, colson, chase and gonzo who are all good capable infielder. Plus Sam is really a 2b. So we don't have that need for a mlb tray guy who plays the IF. Roch and Emerson are pretty close in the board but grady had the higher upside and fire the timeline better for the organization. Where would roch play? OF? You got braden, peters and sam. Plus you have Carlson and bonemer in the next couple years in your IF. Go with Emerson. It makes more sense in the big picture.
  15. It is odd, but I'll trust the Sox judgment on moving on. Peoples had a glaring problem of walking too many batters. Perhaps he refused to make the changes necessary to get called up? I'm not even going to get upset about this - they still have a lot of talent arms down there just as deserving or working their way back from injury. Wikelman Gonzalez and a resurgent Jairo Iriarte are way more exciting options to me than Peoples ever was.
  16. KLaw on a WGN podcast said he’s reasonably confident the pick would be Emerson if draft was today.
