What makes you think that (#1) ? In general I would say he has a lot of input but like all things Sox he'll get stat data and who needs rest data so it's collaborative. Do you think Getz has a role ? I know we all question lineups periodically like I did when Doyle was in there against LHP when he has reverse splits. But I do understand with new hitters you might want to get them in asap and make them feel like they'll have a role here.

1) Venable most probably doesn't make the lineups. 2) If a bench player can't do 6 innings and 2-3 PAs against an opposite handed pitcher and not look lost, they don't belong on a major league team.
