White Sox win draft lottery, will pick #1 in 2026
You do know that a catcher went 1-1 in that draft, right?

Shouldn't be. And certainly should never pay that price. But probably will be. Again, though, moves like this are how we got bad. ( it was a big part of it). Imagine had the Cubs chosen Crochet instead of Madrigal. And it's not like Chapman has been pristine. His 1.27 WHIP trails Grant Taylor, Newcomb, Richard, the much maligned (at least by me) Eisert; it also trails Tyler Davis and also much maligned Leasure. And for the bWAR believers, behind Taylor and Newcomb and Hudson.

Steep price to pay. Given up projected 6-8 WAR over next 5 years at league min to get a good but aging bullpen rental. I duno, I'm not the GM, the guy we have is doing a good job, we'll see what happens.

I mean, I never heard anybody say, 'I'm going to Cleveland on vacation"
My dad has insisted ever since it happened that he faked it because he was embarrassed of being so out. I'm just glad we don't have to watch Yaz struggle to play baseball anymore haha

White Sox on Peacock Channel Sunday
My streams were in and out yesterday, was nice to finally sit down and watch most of it without an issue on the MLB.tv archive. In general the broadcast was garbage. Peacock is the absolute worst production with the laziest cheapest crews possible. Same s%*# with college sports. What is even the point of sending the Cleveland play by play guy, with their dugout guy, to join Steve Stone? It was so awkward when the dugout guy would chime in, like they forgot he was there and had to let him talk once and awhile.

White Sox sign RHP Seranthony Domínguez, 2/20M
Vargas was Rick Hahn. No it wasn't

What will be the cost of Chapman? We talking an org top 10 or nah?

It really slides everyone down one slot and makes the 7th and 8th pretty hard to navigate for opposing managers when you have Newcomb/Taylor/dominguez/Murphy waiting for matchups

Yeah, this angle is pretty quiet right now. If you can save a million bucks on one dude versus another, and basically give yourself another high level HS signing, that might actually break the tie for me.

Any big name you can pretty much not expect the Sox to acquire. They're not going to trade away their top young assets. They're going to be very selective about getting a good deal. I wouldn't expect too much. If Sonny Gray is mostly a cash deal maybe him. Maybe can add an unrated RP or 2 also but maybe the help comes from within since we have a lot of young arms mending. Hell the team has ridden the youth this far might as well just let it ride.

He did a great job with Tristan Peters. He also did a great job with acquiring Vargas, who I was very wrong about. But what I said is still true. He still burns $30 million each offseason on crappy free agents. But that’s pretty much free agency for you unless you are going after the no brainer top talent, or getting luck with fliers like Peters.

Besides for the question I posted about Lackey and CF, the situation also gets complicated due to the Teel factor. The Sox love Teel, and you’re not drafting Lackey to platoon. I know some will say Lackey won’t be up right away, but I don’t think it’s crazy to say he could be up by end of next year if he dominates MILB.

And that is a better then .500 road trip White Sox winner!
The gopher balls don't hurt as much if you don't walk guys and give extra outs before the gopher balls.

Bad luck with the wet field in the first inning and infield seemed to affect Vargas and Colson, but those plays have to be made. Meidroth had a couple head scratchers too, one leading to the 3 run inning and that stupid glove flip late that could have opened the door had Gonzo not been alert. And of course Teal had a number of issues the entire series. Lets hope he's just a little rusty behind the dish as so far him and the staff are doing nothing to shut down any opponent's run game.

Any idea why Charlotte pinch hit for Edgar last night? Hard to believe it was performance given that his pinch hitter seems to be a non-hitting org soldier.

To argue that they don't need to use 1-1 on another SS.

This Day In Sox History 7/6...
SEVEN factoids today: July 6, 1933 - The first ever All-Star Game was played at Comiskey Park. The Sox won a coin flip with the Cubs for the right to host the game that was the idea of Chicago Tribune sports editor Archie “Arch” Ward. It was played in connection with the Chicago World’s Fair which started in May along the lakefront. The A.L. won the game 4-2 thanks to a home run by “Babe” Ruth in the third inning off of Bill Hallahan. The Sox representatives in that first game were Jimmy Dykes (3B) and Al Simmons (OF). Dykes who’d later go on to manger the team, scored the first ever All-Star run. July 6, 1954 - Virgil “Fire” Trucks threw a one-hitter at Detroit beating the Tigers 4-0. It would be the second one-hitter thrown by Trucks in a little over two months. On May 1 he beat Boston at Fenway Park, 3-0 with a one-hitter. In this game the only hit he allowed came in the third inning when Harvey Kuenn singled to center. He’d strike out eight in the game. For the season Trucks would go 19-12 with an ERA of 2.79 and he’d save the All-Star game in Cleveland for the American League. July 6, 1983 - The Golden Anniversary All-Star Game was held at Comiskey Park which hosted for the third time. The A.L. mangled the N.L.13-3 stopping their 11-game losing streak. Chicago native Fred Lynn, of the Angels, got the game’s first ever grand slam, off the Giants Atlee Hammaker who’d later go on to pitch for the Sox. Ron Kittle (OF), who’d go on to win the Rookie of the Year Award, got an infield single in the game in the seventh inning and scored a run. He was the Sox lone representative. July 6, 1999 - Chris Singleton became the first Sox rookie to ever hit for the cycle when he turned the trick against Kansas City. The Sox would lose the game however, 8-7 in 10 innings. Chris went 5 for 6 with three runs scored and four RBI’s. Singleton would later go on to be a Sox broadcaster for a short period of time. July 6, 2007 - The Minnesota Twins scored 32 runs and hammered eight home runs in a day/night twin bill at U.S. Cellular Field winning 20-14 and 12-0. It was a low point for a franchise that was World Series champions less than two years earlier. Jon Garland and Gavin Floyd took the losses. July 6, 2021 - The unbelievable injury run continued to plague the White Sox. Catcher Yasmani Grandal became the 15th different player and fourth key starter to go on the disabled list for the club with only a little more than half the season played. He was diagnosed with a torn tendon in his left knee suffered the night before in Minnesota on a checked swing. A few days earlier in Detroit he took himself out of the game with a tight calf muscle in the same leg. At the time he was among the club leaders in home runs, on-base percentage and among the league leaders in walks. After a stint on the IL he came back to put up impressive numbers finishing the season with 23 home runs and 62 RBI’s. In a game against the Cubs on August 27 he’d tie the team record driving in eight runs in the Sox 17-13 win. July 6, 2021 – Later that same night with the Sox needing something positive, pitcher Carlos Rodon, having an All-Star season, gave it to them. The left hander kept the Twins in check for six innings allowing one run, striking out eight as the Sox got a badly needed win 4-1. With the eight strikeouts Rodon tied a club record first set by Juan Pizarro back in 1961, with eight or more strikeouts in nine straight starts.

I really do think Gray having a NTC and costing a lot of money will reduce his cost. The only change is that the Braves could really use another SP and they will also be super attractive to Sonny.

2026 MLB Draft Thread...White Sox Control Draft/V.Lackey closing fast
I have to admit a bias against high school prospects. I understand the metrics and so on about youth and upside so I'm not actually against a strategy that emphasizes high schoolers. But as a fan who wants to have an opinion about specific players, I just find it very difficult to know whether Grady Emerson is going to be good. It's harder to see him play and it's really hard to evaluate the level of competition. These are obviously problems that affect the MLB scouts looking at him too but they have more resources and such. So it's hard for me to have a strong opinion on Emerson without relying a lot on what other people say. This isn't fair at all but he also seems un-charismatic to me in interviews and watching him on the field. Roch entered the year in pole position and I don't think he really lost it but he also didn't run away with it either. I think there's a bit under the hood to suggest he improved as a player but you could argue part of that rests on last year's production being perhaps overheated/fake/whatever. I believe in some players being safer bets than others but I don't really believe anybody is truly a safe bet. Would you be shocked if Roch Cholowsky initially posts a .650 OPS in high A?

Sonny Gray and Aroldis Chapman just seems too perfect in terms of needs and commitment to players

I don't know really the answer here, which makes me lean to 'cut a deal', but there's no obvious deal. I'd be happiest with Roch, and am just sanguine on Emerson. For a hs shortstop, i'd prefer some louder athletic tools. I am just gonna hope it works out.
