  2. If a play-by-play announcer is asking the same question so frequently that it becomes a meme or a cliche, something's wrong with the broadcast. If John and Steve and the producer think viewers are intently interested in 3-0 count strategy, then Steve should know to talk about it without being repeatedly prompted. If Steve doesn't jump in on his own and John thinks there's value to the viewers in bringing it up, then the burden is on John to tell us why we should care. (Baseball Reference actually tracks each team's swing percentage on 3-0 counts, so that could be an interesting way into the discussion. And even John saying something like,"Yesterday, Vargas swung at a 3-0 pitch, but that was with a big lead" gives viewers context and tees up Steve to talk about how strategy differs in different situations.) Repetition is inevitable over a 162 game season, but the best announcers are always looking for opportunities to bring new information to the viewers, rather than asking the same question the same way again and again.
  3. Mattress Mack came through for a whole lot of people I know 😁
  4. I think I’d put aside my personal happiness for one baseball season for 18 mil. But, that’s just me….
  5. Unless it's Tom Hardy

  7. The white guys from London ruin the daps too
  8. Damn, if my former data presentation boss saw that he'd rip that guy a fucking new one. You can't have that last column middle aligned and red on white is a no no. White text with black background looks much better on screens if you want to get a little spicy with it.
  9. One of the most fun lineups and teams in MLB history. But they never got the ring. That's a shame.
  10. Also big ups to Teel for shouting out the Youtuber that does the funny slightly leaned into NYC metro Paisan accents. What an awesome thing.
  11. We are talking about guys who were on 2024 roster and 2026 roster
  12. That Cleveland team was an absolute juggernaut. They went 100-44 in that shortened season. 112 win pace in a normal one.
  13. did any analytics/projection system come close to forecasting Miguel Vargas' 2026? just curious hopefully, Billy Carlson can similarly pick up his offense, but that's far from assured a full year of health would be good, though...at least
  14. https://www.si.com/college-football/indiana-created-blueprint-for-impossible-turnaround-northwestern-building-even-bigger Northwestern trying to mirror IND up 10-0 on Penn State opening theit new stadium 24-7 now Matt Campbell has his work cut out for him
  15. I've told this one before: was at a pretty low point in my life. Was feeling sorry for myself taking classes as a super senior in N. MI at some podunk college to finish my (very expensive) degree. Wasn't working, my parents were about ready to kick me out of the nest and I almost got into a fist fight with my dad one day, which would have been the worst idea in my life. The Sox ended up helping us resolve some things and we cried together when they won. A really neat thing and not unique based on all the 2005 stories I've been reading from people here and on X. My dad died not long after that sadly, but I know he's watching from above. He used to leave the TV up loud when it was bedtime so I could listen to the games as I fell asleep. Just amazing memories of him and our relationship with each other and the Sox.
  16. "Southside Samurai" was eventually copied by mlb.com fwiw. Plus, you already have the Japanese national/WBC teams called Team Samurai in reference to their fighting spirit/honor/discipline.
  17. That seems astoundingly low. Weren't all the predictions in the $1.5-2 billion range...without a roof?
  18. M.Maldonado made it to July 17th
  19. With all the days off built into the series that makes sense. They don’t need a 13th pitcher and having an extra bat/baserunner/defensive replacement makes a lot of sense.
  20. @kapkomet calling me right after the last out made it perfect.

  22. Pretty interesting the divergent paths for the 3 big Japanese rookies. Mune, unexpectedly the last one standing in the playoff field, really impacted the team and has been capturing hearts and minds even outside of Chicago with his various viral moments. Okamoto performed well and seems comfortable in Toronto, though with less national profile/attention and with the team falling short around him. Still, the Toronto FO was quick to talk about continuing to pursue more Japanese talent after their season ended. And then Imai...doesn't seem like he quite found his footing in Houston. Struggled as a starter, was actually pretty good in relief, but they just stopped using him. Only 18 innings/8 games after his move to the pen in late July even though he was pitching well (certainly better than a few guys they did use). He reportedly had an incentive for 80+ innings, and I guess HOU was determined not to pay it...maybe an attempt to alienate him into opting out? Pretty rough look that I can't imagine helps them with future NBP recruitment efforts. I'm curious to see what Imai decides. $18 million is a lot of money, but hard to put a price on your personal happiness/comfort.
  23. I read they are keeping the same roster as the wild card round
