A huge win? I don't think most people here understand how valuable a 6 WAR arm is. Rarity alone means chase meidroth isnt really adding much in my opinion. Getting league average to below average players for an elite talent isnt a win. Thankfully it looks like Teel is going to be a guy so thats a plus! If meidroth and Teel were all they had to show for a top 3 arm, unless Teel becomes a HOF catcher, that certainly wouldnt be a huge win.4 points

Can't waste a year. I literally get multiple emails telling me to buy a 2026 season ticket package before it's too late.3 points

Well crochet is going to finish top 2 in Cy Young voting. So far, Teel has been the only guy that I can say confidently is a guy. Monty might be one too, but needs to prove it. Garrett is a unicorn.3 points

The title of the thread is "genuine progress" and they have actually had some... JR is a year older. That's progress in my opinion. We are one year closer to Ishbia taking over at some point.2 points

Depends on your point of view. They've had tremendous success but come playoff time you need guys who can carry a team by them selves if needed. Milwaukee hasn't had a lot of post season success and I think that's one reason. Very, VERY solid team but put a Harper or an Ohtani on that club and they'd really be dangerous. Having a superstar or two really helps, don't minimize this.2 points

To be honest, I don't trust Getzy to pick the right free agents no matter how much "unprecedented financial flexibility" he might or might not have.2 points

Meidroth is a long way from being a top 5 second baseman and the problem with him is it's very possible he's already a maxed out player.2 points

I've said this 100 times before but I won't change what I believe to be the right and optimal way to build a team just because the White Sox are cheap as s%*#. It doesn't change how I evaluate trades or what I expect of them as an organization. Montgomery being a 4 WAR player is a monster IF at this point. His career projected WAR is barely 4. I think he's got the tools, but that doesn't promise anything. If they net a starting catcher and below average infielder for a generational talent, then they lose the trade. It's simply in my opinion. Garrett is going to end up looking like a bargain at his contract too if he stays healthy.2 points

What you're saying isn't wrong in general but its definitely wrong in terms of the White Sox of today. The White Sox of today are never going to re-enforce the roster around that elite talent. If Teel and Montgomery become 3-4 WAR players with Meidroth a 2-3 WAR player and Gonzalez being a usable arm on the MLB team that is far more valuable to the Sox than a 6 WAR pitcher who is surrounded by underperformers, journeyman, or mid tier free agents. The Sox were never going to resign Crochet anyways, so you either get 4 chances to get good contributors to your team or you let him walk away and get 1 comp pick. So the jury is still out if it becomes a huge win, because it certainly could if all 4 of those guys pan out, but it will be a win regardless because there was never a chance the Sox were going to keep Crochet here and they pretty much got a max return for him.2 points

If this is supposed to be referring to me, my comment had nothing to do with the person. You had a poster LOL someone who was murdered over an opinion. That's scummy.2 points

Sucks that guys get injured, but he pitched 135, 141.2, 196 innings the last three years. He's been good when he's pitched this year. But yeah, tough month, I pretty much change my mind about wanting him to come back after reading his quotes. I don't fault him, but if he's worried about being seriously injured because he has some soreness in his shoulder, that doesn't bode well for a starting pitcher. Maybe in a lower paid relief role. He's an awesome dude and we need a proper lefty.1 point

Amen. The team might not be 100+ losses bad over the next couple of seasons, but until Jerry's no longer running the show, we'll be treading water at best.1 point

But the Sox payroll is going to be so low that I heard they would be spending money!!!!!1!! Nope, it’s staying in Jerry’s pockets. At most, it will be more washed-up mediocre veterans, as usual. Quite simply, Jerry has no reason to spend for the next few years until he is no longer the owner.1 point

Oak Brook Mall is still around and is thriving as far as I can tell. They are NOT going to get rid of it to build a Sox stadium on that site to cater to the segment of the fanbase who are afraid of the city. It's not even close to any train stations, either. So, it's not a transit-friendly location except for being right off the tollway. https://oakbrookmagazine.com/still-going-strong-oakbrook-center-continues-to-thrive-as-more-malls-close/ https://www.chicagotribune.com/2025/07/22/oak-brook-center-ranked-4th/ https://hinsdalemag.com/oakbrook-center/1 point

All you are going to get are has been's, cast offs, injury prone guy, retreads and stiffs. That's the White Sox way and will stay that way until the stain of JR no longer infects the franchise.1 point

This team is no where near being competitive so I do not want any free agents to be brought in on the offensive side that will take away from the young guys that need to play to see what we have. But the pitching? Damn, they need a lot of help.1 point

Wait until you see what happens this off season when JR tells Getz that because of the upcoming labor situation you'll basically get nothing payroll wise and like it.1 point

The problem is that neither will be a part of the next competitive Sox team. Tauchman will be around for next season and Benintendi will be around for the next two seasons.1 point

That’s more than likely a wrap on Martin Perez. Merkin was quick to publish the article linked below. $6.5 million ($5 million salary plus $1.5 million buyout) for 10 starts and 56 innings pitched. “Pérez exits finale against O's with apparent injury“1 point

If we can score 5+ runs in the bottom of the 7th, I like our chances to win this game.1 point

Honestly if they win 5 games this season and look as bad as they did against the Lions all season, I think he might lose his job after the season. You can’t keep telling everyone things are moving forward and winning 5 games a season.1 point

You would think that Getz would hit on one of the outfielders he acquired by pure luck. Nope, all scrubs so far. Hopefully, Montgomery is that dude…1 point

Approach at the plate is just so bad. No effort or focus at all. Taking strikes and swinging at pitches way out of the zone. Can they send Thames to Arizona?1 point

The Brewers have 9 guys who have 200+ PA's who have a wRC+ of 110 or better (Range is 110-144 Vaughn ha). If you can fill an entire lineup with guys who are 10%+ better than league average, you'll have a really good offense.1 point

There haven't been more than 2 5WAR catchers in a season since 2013. Only 3 catchers have averaged 5+ WAR per year over a 4+ year stretch in the past 30 years -- they'll all be hall of famers. If the Sox get a Hall of Fame catcher for Crochet, I would agree it's a reasonable deal as I said earlier. I have high hopes for Teel, but I'm not sure I'm ready to call him Buster Posey Jr. yet. Meidroth being a league average or below league average infielder doesn't really move the needle. Him being a consistent 3 WAR player is quite the reach from the skill's he's shown now, but hopefully he'll surprise me!1 point

I’ve always said if the Sox were to move to the Suburbs, the Hillside/Oakbrook area would be ideal, take a look at a map and you can see that area is right smack dab in the middle of the Metro area.1 point

Chicago's MSA is around 9.5 million, Dallas is 7.6 million, so not all that close. True, the Chicago area population is shrinking, but it still has a lot going for it, with regards to location, especially due to climate change. Of course, it's got its issues: underfunded pensions, crime, taxes. But Texas is a major disaster waiting to happen, with increasing heat, operating off its own vulnerable electrical grid, etc. Here's the top 20 MSA's, btw: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolitan_statistical_area1 point

Each MLB team has exclusive territorial rights to certain metro areas. The Rangers would never in a million years allow a 2nd team in the DFW metro area. While I agree that the NYC area (perhaps in NJ) could support a 3rd team, the Yankees and Mets own the rights to that area and would never allow it. The A's tried to get a stadium built in San Jose, but the Giants own the rights to that area and blocked that attempt. Ironically, a couple of decades ago the A's ceded the San Jose rights to the Giants when they were looking for a new ballpark.1 point
-
Again, I agree with you overall about the optimal way to build a team. You should never let elite players leave, but the White Sox ARE cheap as s%*# so the reality is you watch them keep Crochet and let him walk away for a comp pick or you trade him for a high level package of prospects that could produce 3-4 contributors. The Sox aren't going to go out and sign a handful of 3-4 WAR players in free agency, hopefully this all changes once JR is out and well be talking about resigning the elite guys instead of shipping them out.1 point

The red sox are 20-9 in games started by crochet. They're 62-60 in games not started by crochet. The red sox are legit not a playoff team without garrett crochet. That's how valuable he is.1 point

Why would you want the constant noise bombardment of planes taking off and landing around the stadium? How would that be easier access than the current location? I mean...if it was something very unique like Osaka's airport is basically surrounded by the ocean/bay on all sides...splash home runs like SF are fun. But then you're creating another problem for those landing and arriving for flights when they have to fight their way through game day traffic...causing untold numbers of accidents. And that works in Japan because everyone in comfortable taking the incredibly safe and clean metro/subway to baseball games, so parking less of a concern.1 point
