Cease was 4th in cy young voting in 2024. Varsho has been fine for the Blue Jays but come on now, bumping this because of a WS homer like “I WAS RIGHT” is silly.5 points

Manfred needs to work on teams with low attendance and low payrolls before he starts adding more teams imo. Tampa and Miami first and foremost3 points

Right? And even toss in about how they should be allowed to interview for the GM job? Craaaazy3 points

Regardless of the shortened season, getting spanked and not even looking competitive is a pretty trash outcome. Just stop.2 points

I think they have made the playoffs now five times in the past 10 years. As a Sox fan I'd give a lot for that.2 points

And the fact that Varsho was never even moved after this thread was created. Regardless, Cease should have always been moved for prospects, not a 27 year old corner outfielder. The problem is that Getz chose the wrong prospects.2 points

saw that pick coming a mile away, once I saw Caleb looking like he was confused, it was a wrap2 points

Talk about an absolutely worthless thing to do. These guys do not care, man. Lmao what are they gonna do? Write a strongly worded letter demanding that they do better?2 points

Considering the White Sox have only made the playoffs five times in the last 30 years, it’s ridiculous for you to call out Lip on his comment.1 point

You’re glossing over instincts. Fields had physical talent too but lacked instincts. Caleb hasn’t shown them yet.1 point

It comes down to not getting TDs in red zone. Been a problem for 3-4 weeks and it’s the penalties, execution, maybe play calling a bit and Caleb struggling when the field gets tight - but it isn’t anyone thing, but a bunch. Had Bears finished first two drives I bet this is a very different football game.1 point

Bears have largely beaten really bad teams so far this year, the Ravens were desperate, and the Bears secondary was banged up. Getting only 6 from those first two drives was an ominous sign. The run defense (other than a couple breakdowns against that fast backup back and a couple Hundley scrambles) I thought acquitted themselves OK. It is the only thing defensively I can say was at least decent, Henry was under 4 ypc, which is the measure I look at. And while I believe time needs to be afforded to Williams he is always good for multiple poorly thrown balls. He had two bad misses on the 2nd drive of the game. The first miss he was bailed out by a penalty. THESE are the missed throws that are costing the Bears. If not for the penalty his 1st miss ends the drive, his 2nd miss kept the drive from moving thus forcing a field goal. He had a couple other misses later, but those two stood out. He did make some great plays though. I am not confident he's a franchise QB, but we have no choice but to see this through. I love Odunze, but he failed to make a tough catch along the sidelines late after a great scramble by WIlliams. Again, the Bears fail to make the big plays in these type of games. Odunze is a special kid and great player, but I need to see him make those catches. I think in time he'll get there. The calamity down in the redzone was bad and there was some questionable play calling as well. That first drive was a work of art and somehow the Bears screwed it up. Also, reviewing a Bears game is never complete without mentioning yet another big pile of penalties they treated us to. Just bad. The Ravens are also the biggest bunch of drama queens in the NFL, constantly "being referrees" constantly emulated the penalty, they do this so damn much they even got a bullshit false start on Thuney called. So I guess it was good strategy then. Move on!!! The Bengals will score at will on this defense next week as I see no chance to control Chase and Higgins, but there is also no excuse the Bears offense shouldn't run all over them as well. Should be a high scoring affair.1 point

Caleb needs to be better - the offense has to be better. Defense I’ll give a partial pass due to the db injured but Poles wasted picks everywhere.1 point

Absolutely not calling him a bust, BUT he does need to be “broken” (like a wild horse). Caleb has relied on pure athleticism to this point and that will not work in the NFL. Riley is a great offensive mind and didn’t get him on script. Ben is a great offensive mind and he’s still not on script. He has all the physical talent to be great. The question is whether someone can harness it.1 point

This is why people that JUST look at WAR are wildly annoying. .214 batting average with a .700 OPS in 2023. Despite his power hot streak in a limited sample size this year, that’s what Varsho is. He’s a glove 1st OF’er that is a liability in the lineup. He has never, nor will ever, have more value than Cease. His defense would have resulted in almost 0 for the Sox and the prospect package in flipping him would not have been better…regardless of what you think of the result.1 point

Caleb's gotten worse since the bye. It honestly doesn't make a lot of sense. He didn't get pressured a lot today and he made mistakes when he had time and a clean pocket. He had a wide open check down for a first down on the interception he threw. He's still making way too many mistakes and he's still too inaccurate on a good amount of throws. It takes time to learn a new system and everything, but he's clearly headed in the wrong direction.1 point

There were a couple of us who advocated trading that pick for a haul once upon a time. I wasn't a Caleb guy in college. With that being said even I have more patience than some here. Year one in Ben's system. Offensive line still needs work cuz of Poles. Give it time.1 point
-
I do want to acknowledge the challenge of Caleb needing to learn a new (and much more complicated) offense. I’m willing to give it more time. And I’m even willing to accept that it probably needed to get worse before it can get better in terms of undoing everything from last year (great job Poles!). But holy s%*#, please show something we can point to. Blind faith can only go so far.1 point

Caleb outplayed by a third string QB. When the hell is he going to show something? The patience asked of bears fans is insane.1 point

Sure, because expectations always increase, but he did a whole lot better than the Tribune did for decades in a few years.1 point

That went away quickly. Offense hasn’t been looked at super closely because of the 4 game winning streak, but the passing game has looked like s%*# for way too much of this season.1 point

Nashville makes too much sense for an expansion team. Especially the location - it would really allow for the league to realign divisions like we've seen suggested the past few years. I'd love to see the Expos return, but I'd think we see another team elsewhere before that happens.1 point

When you are the worst, and 2nd worst, team in baseball the solution is not to trade for players with short term control. What Varsho did the last two years is immaterial to a team that has lost 223 games since you proposed this.1 point

I know I’m going full meatball here, but boooo to domed stadiums, especially in football! I love when stadiums play a role in the personality and character of a team. Domes just lack any character and are basically interchangeable sterile basements. Also, it’s nice being able to “feel” a day game vs a night game. Oh, and also, snow games rule.1 point
