  1. Let's just say that very, very good sources have told me the relationship between the two was strained and that was part of the reason for Nancy's request. And to answer the question, I know Nancy and have spoken with her many times on this matter. She has always been tactful when she addresses the issue but it is clear that there were differences.
  2. Dead arm period
  3. To further clarify, he had to stop pitching due to pain in the elbow. It was diagnosed as a "flexor strain." They later saw the spur when imaging the elbow to check his recovery. They decided to remove that. The next time he tried to throw full speed was in spring training when his UCL gave way all the way.
  4. Good to hear Thorpe is back on the mound.
  5. Also from what I was told, the driving force behind getting Nancy to return for a limited number of games the past few years both in the spring and in the regular season was actually Jeff Szynal the Sox longtime scoreboard coordinator and Hall of Fame curator and historian, not Brooks.
  6. I need the Sox to draft this absolute freak in round 2 please. He's everything their system needs. He's an outfielder, he's an up the middle guy, he has power potential, he's a freak athlete. Need them to float him down to 41
  7. Thorpe had a 40% whiff rate with his changeup which is crazy especially if you don't think they respected his other pitches and that his injury was making him lose his command. If I had more time I'd do a little explainer on how unusual his changeup is but it was certainly very effective.
  8. People are sleeping way too hard on Thorpe. Honestly, if the 4 seamer comes back with a couple extra ticks (which happens fairly often after TJS), kid will be a key part of this rotation moving forward.
  9. It was generally rated the best changeup in minor league baseball.
  10. He'll be in Korea in a few years imo. He stinks. Was not impressed in person or any of his starts last year on TV. One of Getz's bad scouting mistakes so far imo.
  11. Unfortunately, Jerry is totally incapable of this kind of self-reflection. The only times he takes notes is when he can tell everyone "I told you so". So, he's run off Caray, Benetti, Fisk, Thomas......but on the bright side he brought back Tony LaRussa!
  12. Hopefully Brooks and Jerry are taking notes.
  13. Think I'd rather the Bears actually keep the picks, get creative with a Trey Hendrickson deal in FA.
  14. Not bad. Now have 4 picks in the Top 90
  15. 2 points
The Sox have a couple of really important pieces of business this season. #1 is getting Dutch and Hagen back on track as front end starters. #2 is finding MULTIPLE front line players in this draft. Not only getting a future superstar at the top of the draft, but using the extra money from the top of the draft to get multiple first round pick level players into this system, plus something else valuable at the end of the draft with the overage. This is such a pivotal year for the rebuild.
  16. Well, some Sox fans’ parameters are that Schriffen would be qualified to replace Benetti as the team’s play-by-play announcer. The fact that you admit he is “learning on the job” sort of proves the point that he wasn’t. Being a nice young man has nothing to do with being qualified for a job.
  17. The best combo was:
  18. Meanwhile, Steve Stone takes entire series off and avoids west coast trips altogether.
  19. You know Schriffen has fantasy dreams just like this, and is all pissed off when he wakes up from them.
  20. I will be honest, it might have gotten him in the door at the beginning, but it is no where near why he is one of the best in the business. I can't think of another person in sportscasting who has the versatility that he does. He sits down in three different sports and sounds like he does any particular one of them all of the time. He's sits down with different partners and sounds like he has been on the air with whoever it is, forever. He has a light touch, and is perfectly willing to get his partner engaged as much as possible. Dude is one of the best in the business.
  21. Tyler Higbee got 2 years and $8 million to re-sign with the Rams. You can probably replace Kmet at half his cap hit if you really wanted to.
  22. I agree with this. I would be ok with Hendrickson cause it is cap space - but no more than 2 years (and what would be more like a 1+1 type of deal). Quite frankly if I could deal JJ I would too. It will take some time but keep pouring draft picks into the team - this time more on defense. Note: If there was a market for Swift I’d trade him and get 2 years younger with a few of the current crop of FA backs.
  23. Any real improvement for this team this year will come if the starting pitching is OK and can keep them in games. Be very afraid friends and neighbors.
  24. Not sure Poles has earned our trust, but I don’t see him overpaying for Crosby. His quotes seem to indicate taking a more measured approach, trying to walk that tight rope of getting better now, while also not making future years much harder with roster construction. Think he knows they have the QB and Coach locked down, which ideally gives them a somewhat long term window for success. Like almost every other fan, I’d be excited if they acquired Crosby, but I think we all know deep down it’s the fun move, but probably not the smartest
  25. People have been pretty dismissive of Mead based on last year, but it does look to me like he made some kind of adjustment over the offseason. His EVs, barrel%, and pullair% are all way up in spring so far. Wonder if he was another participant in the Fuller bat speed program.
  26. The mariners lost like 27-5 today, I'm sure they are still projected for around 88 wins. Nothing matters, especially in a WBC year.
  27. I think Hill could make the roster if Pereira starts the year on the IL.
  28. More news on injury returns. Pereira will need to make an impression quick.
  29. Even if his velo is the same, I think he will be better than a lot of people believe. Not being a hard thrower gives him less margin for error, but he can still develop into a quality pitcher.
  30. Who did the Padres trade to the Yankees to get Thorpe?
  31. And Adam Amin is getting more and more time as a multi-sport national announcer. Jerry could have had two young, big name announcers in-house and fumbled it.
  32. BUT HE SMELLS LIKE HOT DOG WATER
  33. I liked it better when Brooks came out once a year to pump up the new stuff at the park, and he would just disappear for the rest of the season. Now I know he is kind of a dick to work with and has driven off talent for petty reasons like he has an endless supply. Don’t want to know that part
  34. March 5, 1967 – In what was believed to be a first, the White Sox got permission from Major League Baseball to try an experimental DH rule in spring training games. If both clubs agreed to it before the contest started, a pinch-hitter would be allowed to hit twice. It’s not known if the Sox ever followed through with this experiment in a game. March 5, 2020 - Coming off of a 25-homer season, Yoan Moncada signed a five-year, 70- million-dollar contract extension. The deal followed extensions given to Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert without either young star ever having played a game in the majors. Moncada’s situation better resembled that of Cuban countryman Robert, in that both were signed to enormous bonuses to leave Cuba, in Moncada’s case 31.5 million by the Red Sox. Moncada struggled to meet his 2019 greatness in 2020, contracting COVID at the start of summer camp and battling fatigue over the 60-game season. However, he bounced back for a very solid season in 2021 holding down third base and providing good offensive numbers…14 home runs, 61 RBI’s, 33 doubles, 74 runs and 84 walks. 2022 was an injury filled year that saw him only play in 104 games and hit .212 putting his career at a crossroads. He only played in 92 games in 2023 and 12 games in 2024. After that year he was released by the franchise and he eventually signed with the Angels.
  35. Ty, wild how he spun it in his interview then.
  36. I recall going to see the 1977 White Sox and the excitement that team brought to our fan base. The one thing that drove record attendance was the amount of HRs they hit (192, I believe). Comiskey Park was showing signs of age at that time, inside and out, but that didn't hold back fans from attending...we loved our White Sox and we loved HR. Of course, Sox fans either recall or have read about that magical season, which leads me to proffer the following question. Which players on this years roster are going to hit HRs, and how many? Can this years White Sox energize fans like the '77 hitmen did? Here were the HR totals for players on the '77 White Sox. Oscar Gamble: 31 Richie Zisk: 30 Eric Soderholm: 25 Chet Lemon: 19 Jim Spencer: 18 Lamar Johnson: 18 Jorge Orta: 11 Jim Essian: 10 Ralph Garr: 10 Can the 2026 White Sox line-up achieve similar results?
  37. That's a wild fuckin thing to say, my friend. For a number of reasons.
  38. Yes, he was. Worked with him when he was with the marlins.
  39. A friend said, put "Ran off Haray Caray AND Jason Benetti." on Jerry's tombstone.
  40. I’m not sure how your follow-up question even relates to the Simpsons gif Tony posted or why you are specifically calling him out. This is from Jason Benetti’s Wikipedia page: While I’m sure Benetti would rather not have to live his life with cerebral palsy, it sure hasn’t stopped him from being more successful than many people without a disability. Schriffen has no disabilities that I am aware of and he’s still a worse baseball announcer than Benetti.
  41. I try! I use my stuff today for larger fantasy baseball leagues/tournaments. My pitching stuff has been better than my position player side. I Anchor my position player side to some public models, and on the pitching side I have a lot more player-level customs than any of the public models would, but it's worked for me so I don't Anchor it.
  42. He just came off the bench...to play RF 👀 Another gaudy EV for him too:
  43. Yeah, if you have his BB/9 rate doubling from the 2.75/9 he just posted as a 22 year old in AA last year then I can see why you are pessimistic. That being said, not sure how you got to that 5.25 figure without over-indexing on his earlier minor league production, which seems crazy in this age of player development and when talking about a prospect who was aggressively moved through the system since coming back from TJS.
  44. I look forward to the day when Ishbia finally takes control of this franchise. My hope is that a massive house cleaning of the organization quickly follows that day.
  45. Those who live in the past suffer depression. Those who live in the future suffer anxiety Only those who live in the present love in their right mind. Paraphrase from Lao Tzu
  46. James Fox was saying something like that on last week's FutureSox podcast. WST may have dropped the ball by not taking Acuña's prospect seriously, and pretending it was only a salary dump. They'd wanted Acuña for over a year.
