  1. I will point out there is a new milkshake every year.
  2. If we're talking about the last time the Sox talked about a new stadium, I don't remember many people feeling all that warm and fuzzy about New Comiskey going up. To begin with, Jerry and Eddie immediately soured the whole new ballpark situation with their threat to move the team to what is now Tropicana Field and ended up pissing everyone off for extorting taxpayer money for their new park. Then, they built (at the city's insistence) at the same site that they've had problems with for decades. The Robert Taylor Homes were still around back then and the area wasn't that great at that time. There was even an incident where workers found a bullet hole in one of the new upper deck seats being installed at the new park, which wasn't great for PR. Finally, while people looked forward to moving to a modern, baseball-only facility, a lot of people (rightfully) groaned when they saw how high and steep that 29-row upper deck was sitting above 3 levels of premium seating. If we're talking about being excited about new ownership, yeah Sox fans were excited in 1980......about Ed Debartolo buying the team. Then the AL shot that down and we ended up with Jerry and Eddie as the fallback option. And people might not remember, but Jerry was the more likeable of those two. Yes, fans were eager to see an end to the austerity this franchise had under Veeck, but it didn't take JR and EE long to rub fans the wrong way.
  3. Its a disaster to get in and out of there 8 times a year. It would be a disaster 81 times a year.
  4. Anything is possible but it is hard to imagine Ishbia making more serious ownership mistakes than JR has done.
  5. This is truly a golden opportunity to settle the Sox stadium situation once and for all. There's a ton of potential at the South Loop site. They'll never surpass the Cubs, but a gem of a ballpark right by downtown along an expanded riverwalk and adjacent to a new stadium district could at least make them competitive in the Chicago market. This is their only chance to get things right. There won't be any do-overs if they mess things up again. Wherever they end up will be their home for the rest of our lives. Please keep Jerry Reinsdorf far away from the stadium design process! And yeah, they also need to build a winning organization, too, for this to matter, we all get that.
  6. Which, unfortunately, does NOT bring all the boys to the yard, as judging by our near league worst attendance.
  7. Opening day lineup? Certainly the closest we've seen. Reds radio feed available. CHSN will be broadcasting the Spring Breakout game instead.
  8. Seems pretty apparent that 103F in AZ doesn't create the best environment for pitching prospects
  9. Some nice ABs to load the bases vs. Abbott. Mune reached on an error, Beni nice piece of hitting to LF, Pereira very nice 10 pitch walk. RBI guy Quero does RBI guy things and knocks in two. 106mph liner off a RHP reliever. 4-1 Sox
  10. All these walks remind me of a DSL game.
  11. The play that ended the Dodgers dynasty?
  12. Its great ! Sox prospects targeted for ability to differeniate a ball from a strike. Bergolla worked the count to 3-2 after being down 0-2 then slashed an oppo double. After that the walk fest started.
  13. As teams try sneaking guys through waivers over the next few days, might be worth noting that the Sox have an open 40 spot
  14. Jhonkensy Noel hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth Saturday in the Orioles’ 10-8 win over the Phillies. It’s still disappointing no non-contender claimed Noel off waivers when the Orioles managed to sneak him through in January. He’s gone 8-for-21 with two homers this spring, and while he’ll never completely overcome his contact issues, he’s still just 24 and more interesting than some of the guys getting jobs as fourth and fifth outfielders.
  15. Griffin doesn't make the Pirates OD roster, McGonigle seems likely to make it for DET
  16. Tauchman already injured. Shocker…
  17. Turns out the Mets haven't found the magic injury prevention button after all. Hope it's nothing too bad for Tauch.
  18. White Sox fans originally welcomed the JR ownership with open arms in 1981. JR signed Luzinski and Fisk. The White Sox were having walkup crowds of over 20,000 at some games They were going to draw over 2 million fans for the first time and then the players went out on strike. The owners really got hurt money wise with that strike. A few years later most White Sox fans turned on JRs owbership.
  19. Tigers released OF Austin Slater. Slater exercised the opt-out in his minor league pact with the Tigers after he wasn’t added to Detroit’s active roster by the deadline in his contract. The 33-year-old veteran outfielder should be able to latch on somewhere as a lefty-mashing part-time bench player.
  20. Headed out of Phoenix / Tempe today. A billion cubs fans down here. Didn't get to any games, it's been way too hot already, I'm a bit surprised they didn't cancel any yesterday, as it was pretty much 100+ from 11am to 6pm.
  21. And there is nothing to do there, unless you want to go to a museum.
  22. Do Bill Self and Karl Ravech share a toupee, or do they just shop at the same store?
  23. Not all the pitchers are available on the same day. It appears to be a throwing day for both Hagen and Oppor, not Schultz and McDougal.
  24. Surprised about Kelenic with Baldwin still hurt. Does this mean Hill is making the roster? Yuck.
  25. We thought we were getting that when Reinsdork became owner, worst owner ever and him and Einhorn dissed Bill Veeck, Veeck had more class in his pinkie finger than those 2 jerks combined. Harry Caray had it figured out early with those guys.
  26. I can get on like 10 pct of the time. Call me the 2024 Sox offense
  27. He got a little excited in the annual, backfield Father-Son game.
  28. 1 point
Seems to me that if Drew is physically up to it, it's very very likely that he will have an opportunity to pitch in the rotation. All 5 of those guys being both healthy and effective by then seems unlikely. And I'd assume the Sox may use a Thorpe rehab assignment to give themselves some wiggle room on exactly when he would rejoin the big league club. I don't think it makes a lot of sense for either party to have him pitch in the bullpen. And again assuming that this rehab is successful, it's one of the higher upside guys we have hanging around. Given how control-oriented Drew was, I do worry a bit more for him than some others about what effect the various subtle post-surgery changes will have on his overall effectiveness. Lots of guys report slightly different ranges of motion, newfound prominence of pronation or supination, things like that. Could really upset the apple cart for him. Not to mention that the shape of his changeup was so unusual.
  29. Kayaks in the river catching home runs.
  30. This team looks so much worse without Robert, my god. That outfield is horrific.
  31. Most of the old stadiums in England were built as individual 'stands', or sides. And that allows them to expand by tearing down and rebuilding 1 side at a time. Liverpool's Anfield is a great example of this: Any new stadium is just copying that design for aesthetics.
  32. The soccer stadium isn't going to have a view of anything outside except the sky. It will be closed on every side with a canopy covering all the seats (at least, based on the rendering).
  33. Would be great if some Sox pitcher could throw some strikes in this game.
