White Sox acquired RHPs Jordan Hicks and David Sandlin from BOS
Just want to say, what im quoting is an actual quote from the athletic under team rankings. Nothing law said on a podcast or interview. I think your points are fine. Id argue theres been much more bad than good as it relates to his baseball moves. Im also just not sure what you would define as comes crumbling down? He's never not lost 100 games. To me, Getz offered Jerry what most GMs wouldnt/wont. To have a bottom 3-5 payroll in a major market if he gave Getz a few million for management and org overhaul. He traded 110 million for 5 million. When I say a major job of these roles is influence, I mean things like AJ Preller going to SD and convincing/motivating ownership to spend. Youre absolutely right in that Getz is an executive, but he's operating the Sox like a PE teardown where he's going lean on the player side to maximize ownership outcomes while selling a narrative of transformation. I think thats where our views diverge. Im still rooting for the team but dont understand the praise for a suit pitching a consulting transformation to copy other teams...

Sox get an off season "C"
Seems about right to me. They did what you'd expect an average team in their position to do. Which is a step up for them from the F and D of the past two offseasons. Problem is Jim Bowden the GM makes Getz look like Friedman.

Yes, and a huge part of the leadership roles Getz sat in is influence and having influence. Its a failure on him to have failures and simply blame those above him. Now his job is to influence ownership into investing in the roster and hes been a disaster there too. I said what I said though and dont want to derail the thread.

Take it up with Keith. He addresses the graduating prospects. He also agrees the system should be better. I'm not going to repeat everything we've been discussing for the past three years, but i obviously agree with Keith. Getz didnt do his homework for 2 years and now he's doing it but at a C level. I'm not going to applaud that. People are thrilled about a team with a 66ish win forecast. Couldn't be me. Maybe it works out, because randomness is what makes baseball great, but Getz hasn't reinvented anything here. I'm not going to get into you claiming he's a better GM than Kenny Williams.

White Sox acquired RHPs Jordan Hicks and David Sandlin from BOS
He lost the 4th most games in baseball history over a three year span and made horrible trades and signings as gm, was in charge of one of the worst minor league systems in baseball, and did nothing but agree with the owner moving towards historic cheapness.

Keith Law had the Sox with the 8th best system in baseball which was their highest ranking from what I saw. This has nothing to do with him not being high on the prospects. Getz has already deserved to be fired once, at minimum. The victory laps over Chris Getz this off-season have been wild! Further proof and evidence that if you lower the bar so low, people will claim you're dominating when you're just don't basic things.

I think Keith Law put it best in the Athletic team rankings: I'm paraphrasing but he said, they have improved and had a couple decent looking drafts but their farm system is worse than you'd expect a team with their recent activity, draft position and resources. Meaning essentially, Getz has done worse than an average GM would do in this situation but how much so is still pretty unknown.

Agree the process is a step in the right direction which is why Ive been positive of the deal. That said, I still have very little faith in Getz ability to evaluate and acquire talent that fits and can be maximized.

Yeah, the White Sox and I just disagree on the quality and ability of Sandlin. I don't think he's worth much more than the roster spot he occupies. If they like him, by all means paying a SP 8 million a year is nothing. You all know how I feel about sign and flip or trade and flip in 4 months; not really any value in that as it isn't a real thing.

While I don't agree with you on Hays, I agree on Sandlin/Hicks. It's just an odd trade. I'm probably higher on Hicks returning to form, but then you just got yourself another reliever... for market price too. They must believe in Sandlin, but a guy with a straight fastball who has shoddy command getting a big league shot usually doesn't bode well. Not agreeing with something isn't trashing it. You disagree with posters all the time, does that mean you're trashing them?

Some interesting victory laps this offseason. Sandlin stinks. Him as a guy in the rotation this year is more of an indication of the state of white sox pitching than his skills. Maybe they can get Hicks right out of the bullpen.

Hicks has had some real nice years as a reliever.

I mean, the 8 million is worth more to Boston than the prospect the Sox are giving.

Makes sense. Sandlin as a part of the starting rotation is interesting though...

I still find Hicks intriguing, but I just don't see how he starts. His sinker isn't good enough at 96, and it comes too close to the slider in velocity and basically kills that pitch.

Agreed. Two potentially plus pitches that get a little more life and consistency out of the pen. Just odd that 10% of the Sox payroll is going to be Hicks.

Bonemer Boost
I just meant the point where he releases the ball is unique due to his size and the other variables i noted. His arm angle isnt really one that maximizes actual extension.
-
Austin Hays
Acuna is going to be a stud defensively in center. Great speed. Great instincts despite few reps.
-
Austin Hays
We no longer have the lowest projection at all three outfield positions. We have passed the Rockies in Left Field!
-
Austin Hays
Up to 80 million. We sign one more player, we're not quite as embarrassing as the Rays!
-
Austin Hays
The "don't sign big league outfielders" crowd is in shambles! I would have preferred Bader to Hays, but Hays cheaper. Either way, nice to have at least one veteran out there. Hays defense has been trending down, but his arm is still great and he's a viable starter.

Guys like Oppor come around all the time. Doesn't mean he cant be very good, but unicorns are unique and rare. Being 6'9 and throwing with that angle, extension and release point are all unique. Before last year he also had ++ command. He's also still been growing! Guys like Schultz have HOF ceilings, but the injury risk and set backs last year lowered his floor beyond where it had been.
-
Bonemer Boost
The reason he's dropped are because of things outside of his ceiling/talent level. He's the only unicorn prospect the White Sox have in my opinion.
-
Bonemer Boost
I still think Schultz is the best player in the system but he really needs a bounce back.

Him and Caleb have that in common then 😂
