I'm guessing this new found energy is somewhat related to the fact that the Sox rotation pitchers have only given up 5 ER in the last 8 games (50.1 IP). The last bad start was Giolito nine games ago. Not sure how Cairo can take credit for that. Anyone can manage with that pitching. Worse case scenario is the rotation keeps this up, everyone declares TLR's absence to be the difference and the Sox don't fix the many holes that were obvious all season. TLR has had a bad year and should have been fired, but I doubt anyone would have had the Sox playing .600 ball all year.

I don't have that data either, but I suspect the majority of fans are coming from the west and southwest suburbs. A ballpark closer to the center of that area that avoids the 20 mph trek into the city could be the difference between buying tickets and watching on TV for lots of potential fans. Woodridge to Sox park is an 1:20 drive lots of nights, and an hour home. Thats rough on a work/school night. That used to be 45 minutes max 20 years ago, often 30. Even worse for fans who live in Naperville, Aurora etc, which has large population with the money to buy tickets.

It will depend on what happens when the lease is up in 2029. I don't see the Sox staying on the south side. Its just too difficult to get to from their fan base, particularly on weeknights. They used to draw heavily from the factory workers on the south side attending after work, those jobs and people are long gone. The Sox didn't want to be there in the first place, and its only gotten worse over the the 30 + years. The Southside jerseys are cool, but what percentage of the attendance is actually Southside residents? 25 maybe? Worth noting that of all the original multiple team cities since 1901- Chicago, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, St Louis (1902), only Chicago has its original teams. Doesn't matter how big your market is if the other team is selling 2.5 million plus tickets ever year and the TV market is split. And yes, decisions are made supposedly in the best interests of MLB. AL and NL are irrelevant.

Its not like hanging out with the White Sox and their training staff is likely any better from an injury standpoint. I'd be ok with the entire team playing WBC instead of Sox spring training.

Fernando Tatis suspended 80 Games for PEDs

Its quite possible that the same player could be involved in one of the worst trades in history and one of the worst contracts in history. -

How much money did the genius GM give him, I can't seem to remember. -
TLR always refers to this team as a "family". My family doesn't hang out together at the Admiral.

I wonder how many Sox fans that freaked out in 97 because JR gave up on a team that was supposedly still in contention are the same Sox fans who have repeatedly written off this year's team. Roughly the same record, roughly the same position in the standings, an unpopular manager. The only difference is the 97 Cleveland team was a far better team than the teams the Sox are behind this year.

There is a difference between disclosing injuries and illness. If a player is out for a few days because of an allergic reaction to VD medication should that be disclosed? In the rare cases where players have a serious disease like cancer the team certainly doesn't announce that until the player is ready to go public. Hopefully nothing like that is the case with Robert, but teams treat illness and injury with different levels of privacy. Players used to play with diabetes for years before anyone knew.

AJ for manager is just this generation's version of Fisk for manager.

I think it is safe to say that there are even less MLB GM jobs out there where the owners allow the GM to do whatever they want without interference from above. Most GMs (maybe all) aren't even the top position on that side of the organization. Even the first time he was hired Veeck was heavily involved, not just Hemond. And I would bet if Veeck didnt want TLR, Hemond couldn't have hired him. That GM job just doesn't exist.

Josh Donaldson suspended 1 game for comments toward TA
ThirdGen replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I may have missed it, but has any current or past teammate come to Donaldson's defense? He has played 12 years, 6 MLB teams, and no one has said "I know him, definitely not a racist"? I find that interesting. Also noteworthy that NYY put him on the 10 day Covid list today. The face to face convos with TA and Grandal could be an issue. Or maybe an excuse to get him out of the clubhouse for a while. -
I used to think tuning in channel 44 was a pain in the ass in the 70s. This is nuts.

They currently claim to have 90,000 on the season ticket waiting list. Why don't they just sell 5,000 more season tickets and go back to selling out every game? Unless, of course, the waiting list doesn't really exist.

17 major league pitchers made their MLB debut this weekend alone, besides the Sox the list includes NYY, SDP, HOU, STL all of which are contenders. Seattle is a contender also they will be starting. I believe SEA Matthew Brash will join that list if he starts against the Sox tomorrow as expected. Its the expanded rosters.

Sox still looking for a starting pitcher, Sheets could be used as part of that. Vaughn DH.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
ThirdGen replied to CentralChamps21's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sox fans would have complained about a pitcher playing out of position in the outfield after seeing this picture. Would have sent telegrams to the sponsors demanding Comiskey's removal. -

There is also the very real but hopefully not very real possibility that Hendriks gets hurt or has a bad run, having a second closer around wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. -
I'd be in favor of doing this in May and September as well. Most people don't want to keep kids out until 11 pm or so on school nights. This may make it easier for kids to go to games. You don't see too many people tailgating during April weeknight games. You can always spend the last hour of work drinking to make up for it.

I know Anderson was initially suspended three games, and he appealed. I never saw where the appeal was completely denied by the league (or any result of the appeal). I can't find anything on the internet about the appeal. I kind of expected the suspension to be a little shorter after the appeal as the umpire initiated the contact. Is it definitely three games or is the appeal still pending?
