Sox just lost most embarrasing DH in 120 years of MLB
This is the right take. We have to accept fact that the Sox as he said have a ton of hackers. And the rest he said, too. No need to panic especially with all the injuries.

Sox just lost most embarrasing DH in 120 years of MLB
Some of you guys are really freaking out. How come nobody is blaming the state of hitting philosophy in today's baseball? As long as it's HR or strikeout being preferred, this team is probably going to struggle ... except the nights the superstars (Eloy, Robert, Moncada, Timmy, Grandal) hit several homers between them. Or nights Abreu, EE, Mazura hit a couple. There will be plenty of nights we score a lot of runs in a normal season. Our bats are too potent to not score a ton of runs. As far as pitching ... the staff needs help. I'll be shocked if we make the playoffs and/or win the ALCS with this pitching staff. As far as Ricky ... cmon. How important is a manager? I'm not crazy about RR, but I don't think he's a clown, either. Defensively? Sox are average at best. Good luck to the Sox but the team isn't as bad as some are saying and getting rid of RR isn't that important.

Sox vs St Louis Covids Game 1 8/15 thread, noon start
Plate discipline has been a problem of young hitters, especially Sox hitters, for a long time. He'll learn what to do with the slow stuff and be fine. He is a superstar in the wings. Timmy should talk to him more about hitting, too. He's not unplayable in the field, cause he's playing out there every day, nyuk nyuk. Hopefully he can improve cause he's our LF of the future. Why worry about the hitting of our superstar candidates, Eloy, Timmy, Robert, Moncada, etc., they are going to hit.

I forgot he went off the other day. I'm glad he did that as a leader but I still say a lot of "being flat" is cliche. As far as Eloy, he'll be fine. This team is still going to hit IMO. I'm very down on the pitching, actually. And of course the defense.

Cmon guys, this being flat stuff is cliche. We would get laughed out of the MLB clubhouses if telling MLB coaches and GMs and ballplayers our team always looks flat. You look flat when you have "some" very bad defensive players and when you are not hitting the ball.

Bad game. Just tip your cap (aarg did I say that?) and move on to Game Two. This season is so crazy it's just a development year for several players. That's why I hope Madrigal gets back and we bring up Vaughn, too. Hahn has more work to do on the pitching staff. We need another Keuchel or two if we want to win it all. That ridiculous Leury injury did not help this current team at all.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
Man, the fact Carolina has two clusters in dorms should tell everybody we just can't reopen colleges. It's too obvious that people from all over different states and countries are going to next week be invading campuses. Unless we are trying for herd mentality we are all doomed. I was listening to Baba Booey's kid on Howard Stern show. He's going back to Syracuse and having all online classes. Seems $illy to bring back $tudent$ just to take online classes from their apartments. Hope my mask protects me cause Covid is coming to town in bunches this next week and beyond. How can UNC not shut down those dorms? https://www.wral.com/coronavirus/unc-reports-coronavirus-clusters-in-student-housing-at-ehringhaus-community-and-granville-towers/19235920/

Garcia to 45 day IL
True. I would think Leury's problem is big for an MLB player. Ptatc? Interesting way to stall or maybe end a career. Very silly decision to slide into first like he did.

That last at bat was beautiful. A line drive smash. I don't like the lift and pull, HR or strikeout nature of baseball. I'll take some line drives and ducksnorts and bunts against shifts, too.

I assume Timmy hit right into the shift? I saw the ball was rolling up the middle. If so, I continue to hate the shift.

The experts have spoken today ... the fall is going to be a disaster if Americans don't take action. Masks, distancing, washing, avoiding crowds (hmmm, sports world?). My question to you is do you believe them or not? I tend to believe them. Be safe, folks. This is life and death. I pray for health for all and enough food for all to get through the winter. And I pray people are accorded shelter and relief from monthly rent payments as we plod through corona. Also I pray the grocery stores maintain normal business with no shortages of food, terribly long lines thru the night, etc. Let's get thru this America! https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/511841-cdc-director-warns-of-worst-fall-in-history-if-people-dont-follow-covid#.XzVp05QprVk.twitter

New Zealand trying to avert COVID crisis. It was doing so well. Now this. Damn this virus is ominous. I have opinions that i won't share. God help us all, though, even N.Z. now appears to have problems. https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/13/asia/new-zealand-cases-coronavirus-intl-hnk/index.html

2020 College Football thread
Huskers made a statement today they are staying put. Understandably they were outraged since 3 conferences are playing and NU football stands idle til the spring. So much is unknown, but the embattled Big 10 commissioner took the right side of this issue in the long run IMO. Right now he is an enemy in Nebraska, but wait until the 3 conferences that are playing in the fall have major problems/outbreaks. It's not guaranteed there will be problems, but a very safe bet that the Big 12, SEC and ACC will have serious outbreaks before Game One (in the Big 12 a month after kids return to campus) and there will be all sorts of problems forcing cancellation of season in those 3 leagues. We'll hear that the whole Texas Tech offensive line is out or all the Texas QBs are exposed/out, etc. I will say this. As of Wednesday, the Big 12 ADs were on Cloud Nine, pumped up talking about fans at the opener, etc. This unabashed optimism of the 3 leagues can turn to angst/depression in just one or two days. Meanwhile, the Big Ten can put it all off until the spring, when again, odds suggest heavily there will be no sports because of winter virus season. My point? Nebraska's feelings and pocketbooks took a hard shot this week, but Huskers now are going to adjust mentally and get ready for a season in the spring. The Big 10 commish will look like a hero when the other leagues that are playing have SEVERE issues. Life sucks right now.

Would you add a FA starter b4 2021, and who/why?
I would think COVID has some sports owners concerned and would show up in budget. Maybe not. But we can't just assume it's ever going away. Seems every day the news is worse than the day before. At some point the tanked economy has to affect sports teams, doesn't it? Or are TV stations that make the huge deals exempt from recession/depression?

Sox are going to have to do something major with the pitching for the rebuild, or we're going to have to assume .500 will make the playoffs for some time to come IMO. The hitting is great, but our defense at some spots is suspect and our pitching is, let's face it, pretty abysmal if Lopez and Cease are just average. If money is an issue, trade Grandal to the Yankees this offseason to free up a little cash and load up on veteran pitching free agents.

Series v St. LOUIS
If this goes on much longer, it's ridiculous for the Cardinals' season to resume. So their pitchers will be going 2-3 innings max for the foreseeable? Time for some of their players/pitchers to opt out. They can't be in proper shape to pitch.

Jose Abreu is a gift to baseball and the city of Chicago. Did u see his smile through that whole play? He's a little kid getting paid a lot to play baseball. He is so good. Kudos to Jose for the DP.

2020 College Football thread
Exactly. College football in the spring would have NO potential draft picks. You'd be insane to play with the draft in April for gosh sakes and college football starting Jan. 1 or Feb. 1. ... Here is the likely scenario as today put out by the Pac. The Pac said today no sports until "possibly" Jan. 1. OK, Jan. 1 comes, it's very likely there will be a winter spike of COVID/Flu. I betcha by then there's NO CHANCE of in person college second semester and absolutely no sports. College basketball has no chance IMO unless it starts early, not late. Like say first game Oct. 1, not Nov. 10. My guess is the Pac decision ensures no sports at all in college this year. Again, it's going to be better from now til Jan. 1 not after Jan. 1. Just my take. As far as Nebraska ... don't discount NU just doing what it wants to do. Big Ten isn't going to kick it out for playing football on its own one year. Could NU be an independent and play some teams in the ACC, SEC and Big 12?

Fernando Tatis Jr. thread
If Tatis stays healthy it could end up a top five worst trade in baseball history. What's weird is if we had Tatis would we have had a dynasty in Chicago? Potential superstars in Moncada, Eloy, Tim, Tatis and Robert. Our pitching staff is pretty pedestrian, though. Nice pickup of the veteran this year, though.
