  1. You do realize the Hall of Fame's standards, generally speaking, are greatness in comparison to your era's peers, right? That's why you have guys like Edgar Martinez, Frank Thomas, and Trevor Hoffman in the Hall. Back when they were playing, there was still a lot of debate over if they deserved to be in the Hall because of their positions (DH = failed fielder; CL / RP = failed starter). The Hall's standards evolve with the game, so the whole "you need (x) wins to get in the Hall" is an extremely outdated notion.
  2. Lachlan Hoogheem, a cousin (by marriage) to Lars Nootbaar
  3. Now, now. Let's not be reasonable here.
  4. Yeah, that's the confusing part. I'm half wondering if the change was temporary and just enough to keep the hitters guessing a little more.
  5. Yeah, but has that stopped us before?
  6. Philosophical question: At what point is it no longer a "rebuild" and just a "build." If there was nothing built to begin with, can you rebuild?
  7. Even if he did win the lottery, do you think he’d invest it into player payroll?
  8. The most painful call of the season IMO by Schriffen…. In a way that people who could actually relate to for once.
  9. I have been generally happy with the staffing decisions Getz has made. It sounds like this is a positive hire. I just hope enough of the rest of the org is in place to give Venable a fair shake to develop the guys here .….now player acquisitions, on the other hand,…
  10. Controversial take, at least by internet standards: I don't have an opinion on this hiring yet. There. I said it. Decidedly undecided. I hope that's not too controversial.
  11. We would need to improve by 40 wins just to get to mediocrity. Unless your definition of "several" is 15~20, we're more than "several players" away.
  12. I hope that Getz ACTUALLY gets the final say... not necessarily because I distrust him less than I trust TLR, but more because it'll be a sign that there's actually a clear set of responsibilities in the decision-making process. The one thing I can forgive Hahn for is the fact that it seems like key decisions were taken out of his hands after 2020 (cough, cough, TONY). Of course he had more than his fair share of f***-ups, but I want Getz to be able to be judged exclusively on the decisions Chris Getz makes, without the benefit of the "his hands were tied" or "it was really Tony's team" doubt.
  13. Probably an unpopular take, but I really hope the director or culture (or whatever that ex-marine dude’s position is) has a say in this hire.
  14. No idea. Seems like this org is dead set against letting Colas get any plate appearances at the big league level - that was more my intent with my post.
  15. Colas? Like he would ever get regular AB’s at the big league level…. Illogically, it seems like the Sox would be more likely to sign Maldonado to play 1B than give Colas regular AB’s at first base, under the guise of infield defensive leadership or some s%*#.
  16. There was definitely an SNL skit about this involving Will Ferrell and a yoga class, FWIW.
  17. this makes sense to me - thank you for clarifying. I think i agree with all of that
  18. So, based on this, are you suggesting that Player Evaluation (scouting) should also be responsible for assessing the strengths and weaknesses of your Player Development process / system? That's an interesting idea / take, and I think it makes sense. I'm not sure I agree with the idea that they must not be combined (I always got the sense that teams like Cleveland did this, or at least had a nice symbiotic relationship between the two functions), but it does make sense for your scouting department to be able to see the trends in the players they put into the system vs. the players coming out of the system.
  19. This shows he has some intelligence.
  20. To paraphrase Wayne Campbell, "if it's Chris Getz, I'm going to be very upset."
