  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 8, 2016 -> 08:18 AM) Since people seemed to like these last year, we are again doing the weekly stock report for those not guaranteed roster spots in Spring Training. That includes those vying for roster slots, and prospects who are just in camp for other reasons. But we have a new writer on the job this year - Matt (MDL27 on SoxTalk) will be handling them this year. He will also be joining us for in-season recap writing and other posts. Here is the Week One Report. Good piece. I'm one of those guys who is always encouraged by seeing good results and hardly ever discouraged by bad spring results early on. So yes I'm biased ,optimistic and when results are bad its always "he could be working on something , a new pitch a new stance." May and Davidson have impressed the most. That Coats oppo HR was impressive. Engel has looked good although the results aren't there as of yet. The catchers have had good results . Kevan Smith, Hector Sanchez and Omar Narvaez have all had a hit or 2 . Sanchez took a foul tip off his right hand so not sure how bad it was because he was taken out of the game. Narvaez is old for the level he played in so perhaps they're taking a long look at him in ST. Brantly had a HR. Pitching is even harder to assess because one inning you can look like a world beater and the next inning look like cannon fodder. However Danish and Kahnle have looked decent. Turner , Tago, Webb and Ynoa all have looked good. Some might think Avi Garcia is guaranteed a spot on the team but I think there's a battle between Shuck, Avi and Sands for a spot on the 25 so they should be watched. Avi has looked good adjusting to his new stance, Sands looked good then bad on both offense and defense. Shuck is always a solid slasher . Dan Fields has shown flashes with the bat and is probably a better fielder than Sands , Avi or Shuck.
  2. For anyone wanting to see that Davidson HR it's here. http://m.mlb.com/cws/video/topic/26659992/...enter/?c_id=cws He's 3/6 so far this spring without a K.
  3. Davidson with a bomb to CF that cleared the batters eye . Easily 450ft.
  4. Lombardozzi with a 2 run bomb to give Sox 5-4 lead.
  5. EJ got 1st 2 guys out, Trout and Pujols walk. Calhoun lifts high fly to short left that either Sands or Saladino could've caught . Sands must ve called off Saladino then trys for a backhanded catch about thigh high and dropped it. Should've been an error but given a hit. Wild pitch scores Pujol's. 2 -0 Angels. Both runs should ve been unearned but are earned.
  6. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 07:52 AM) 1.) For So Cal White Sox fans, the game is on at noon on fox sports west. 2.) It must be a SS game today as Eaton, A. Garcia, and La Roche ( to name a few ) aren't available today. 3.) tomorrow at 6am PST mlb network is airing the Fox Sports West feed. Thanks ! Watching it now. Hector Santiago and Geovanny Soto the battery for the Angels, Shuck leading off ex Angel , got on via SS error , caught stealing . Lawrie K. Abreu single to right. Frazier line out to SS.
  7. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 09:02 AM) That would be retarded. I'm basis that off the last 3 years of Danks combined with Tuners pedigree and a belief that a healthy young turner is going to be more productive and add more balance to the rotation. Erik Johnson... the forgotten man .EJ getting a real chance needs to happen with Latos health history and Turner never having lived up to the hype and also his health history,
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 07:57 AM) Really rooting for Johnson to be as good as possible to add to our flexibility. I already made a bold prediction that EJ is better than Jordan Zimmerman and his $16.5M contract. No one would've remembered it but I'm stating it again just to be out there.
  9. QUOTE (Dunt @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 06:46 AM) He had 2 good months last year. Avi was awesome in April/May last year, you need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture though. Bradley Jr. has been absolutely awful since he was brought up. A good 2 months when you only get 221 AB and 10 HR's gives you an .832 OPS, He does that for a full season and we're looking at perhaps a 6 WAR guy.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 06:03 AM) It's really incredible how Hahn was able to make all these moves and not give up the draft picks. The Jackson move caps off a fascinating, yet productive offseason. Kudos to Hahn. $10M Alexi = $5M Jackson, $3M Latos, $2M Rollins . Fascinating.
  11. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 06:37 PM) Another year of losing its lust. I really enjoyed when they put more effort on going through the team in depth. Just a lot of interviews of players and coaches mixed with highlights of today's spring training games. They weren't very high on sox this year. Coming up 3 to the bottom of the division. They really kept it rather lighthearted. Also the teams done on the weekends sort of get the short end of the stick since during the week they continue the theme of 30 in 30 on the other shows like Intentional Talk. Also worth noting that interviews are done with only the adept at speaking English players. Not one Spanish speaking member of the Sox was approached. In today's baseball with so many Spanish speaking players you'd think they'd put some effort into using a translator or have an interviewer who can translate for the audience. On the bright side I found out about the Jackson signing during the show.
  12. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 08:00 PM) Jackie Bradley Jr. is better than all of our outfielders offensively and defensively and would require us sending the whole farm to Boston. And Boston has no interest in moving him. Not a likely thing. That's why I said "a guy like him". I've wanted him or Brock Holt for 2 years. He really hasn't established himself yet offensively but the signs are there that he's getting better. I wanted him when he was really sucking offensively. You can't really say he's better offensively than all our guys because he has never had a full season's worth of AB's yet . Maybe you're thinking of Mookie Betts ?
  13. Pretty sure he's saying a 4 man bench. One of those players from each line, You don't really think he has 4 OF's on the bench do you ? (Shuck,Sands, Fields, May)
  14. Looking a little bit better now with AJAX industrial strength outfield cleaner.
  15. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 06:00 PM) Between Saladino, Rollins, and Lawrie they can all play every position so I don't think we need another back up infielder IMO ...if Rollins remains on the team if he doesn't win the starting job. That hasn't really been established yet has it ?
  16. Lawrie has a breakout year with 25+ HR's and 85 RBI and ,800 OPS but starting rotation carries the Sox into the playoffs.
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 05:36 PM) I still think we take two backup OFs to start the season. I think having a guy who can platoon with LaRoche (Avi or Sands) is far more important than having a second backup IF like Sanchez. There's certainly a lot of ways the Sox can go. They can use Lawrie more at DH also along with the other DH options mentioned. We don't know for sure just how good or bad Lawrie will be at 2nd and having guys like Saladino and Sanchez around may weaken the bench bats but is far superior as late inning defensive replacements, Still might see the Sox grab another defensive OF late in ST as rosters are pared or trade fir one with the excess relievers . A guy like Jackie Bradley Jr. who's LH and very good defensively with offensive upside would be perfect but not many like him around.
  18. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 03:15 PM) Theoretically they could potentially send Garcia to AAA since he is working on a new stance/mechanics or I guess trade him. That's what I was thinking. More depth means more trade pieces and since Avi isn't a defensive replacement type OF, Shuck Avi and Sands might be in a battle for the 25.
  19. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 02:51 PM) I really think Eaton will be a beast in RF. I think he plays LF coming off the shoulder surgery since Melky has a good enough arm fir RF.
  20. QUOTE (Dunt @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 07:51 AM) I can't be the only one it bugs to see May starting a lot of these games in CF right? https://twitter.com/cst_soxvan/status/706503044473618435 Avi single Avila walk, Jacob May 2 strike oppo down the line double scores PR's Engel and Coats from 1st and 2nd. May then steals 3rd. 5-1 Sox.
  21. Eaton with another caught stealing . 0-2 in that department so far this spring. Hasn't shown much of a knack for stealing bases in his career so far.
  22. Back to back on back to back pitches.
  23. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 12:32 PM) Frazier has such easy power. Ball jumps. Why didnt you say he hit a HR 3-0 Sox
