Luis Castillo for 2B?
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 06:51 PM) Kline is now on the orioles so he has some competition for best left handed reliever in the american league this year. Ya aj, when I wrote that steve was the first guy I gave consideration to when it used to be Guardado but as long as marte gets back to previous form I'd take him over Kline, jmo.

Jared Weaver
Jas, what do you think of weaver as a pitcher?? I have never seen him pitch and am interested on what kind of player he would turn out to be.

QUOTE(bulokis @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 04:51 PM) Scott Williamson signs with the cubs. Dont know how healthy he is though. He'll probably be out all season, if he was actually healthy this would have been a good pick up for the cubs but he's not, so........

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) Per Rotoworld, Roberto Hernandez to the NY Mets on a minor league deal. Well....he's not very good anymore but the mets do need something in their pen, this won't hurt them.

Draft Order
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 04:10 PM) Thats a key slot because 15 and lower does not give up first round compensation for free agent signings. I think the Sox did lose there 2nd round draft pick for signing El Duque or Hermanson, I forget which, but If I recall we signed one guy that had been offered arbitration. It was orlando.

Luis Vizcaino signs with White Sox!
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 03:58 PM) This is great news. Everything said at Soxfest by both Kenny and Posednik seemed to indicate that Luis has damn good stuff. Ya, scotty called his stuff electric and Hawk called Luis, Jose

Luis Castillo for 2B?
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 04:16 PM) So what if he can't close? If it comes down to it that Marte has to close, that means we're in a lot worse shape than we all think (and I doubt that happens, even if Shingo falters). Here's how I see it going down if Shingo fails. Hermy will be given the first shot, then they'll give it to Vizcaino if Hermanson fails. If Vizcaino fails as well, that means we've all really overestimated how good our bullpen is, and we're going to have about zero shot at the playoffs. Just because a guy can't close doesn't mean he isn't good. Find me a better bargain just about anywhere in the major leagues than Marte @ less than 1.5 million (I'm pretty sure he makes less than 1.5, though I could be wrong). I'm with you on this one. Damaso is the best left handed reliever in the american league. He had an off year last year and he was still pretty darn good, if we got Damaso back to his form from 2 years ago which I think we will then he is absolutely lights out.

Name Change? Anything else needed?
QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 11:53 PM) Wow that's an awesome name to have on a Sox board. He's got the matching colors and everything! Do you know if it's true that Venom's going to be the next villian in Spiderman 3? I've heard he isn't but I'd love to see that, venom rocks.

2005 Batting Order???
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) Some guy at the Sunday Q&A suggested moving Pauly to 3rd and starting Frank at first. Now can you imagine starting Carl at 2nd on top of that? Cmon 2k5, it worked for his xbox team

Da Bulls!!
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 08:47 AM) The 6th playoff position is going to be the ideal slot to be in this year. No doubt, that's the spot I've really been hoping the bulls can somehow slide into.
-
Luis Castillo for 2B?
I'd love to have Castillo however I'm not giving up any of our bullpen arms unless it was adkins or someone like that(which wouldn't get anything done) the bullpen as currently constructed is so good and having a great bullpen is very important throughout the season but even more important in the playoffs, a good bullpen can honestly win you a world series, ala the angels of 02.

Da Bulls!!
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 07:22 AM) Guys, the Bulls are going to stumble. They're too young not to do so. You are going to have guys hitting the rookie wall soon, and the schedule is going to get much tougher. If they do make the playoffs, I wouldn't expect much from them. There is a similarity between the NBA and NHL when it comes to the difference between regular season and playoff games. They take it to another level. None of the main cogs of the Bulls has any playoff experience whatsoever. If they win a playoff series, consider it a MAJOR accomplishment and sign of good things to come. If they don't, which is more likely to happen, consider it a learning experience. Even MJ had learn how to win in the playoffs. However, the resurgence of the Bulls is great to see. They are heading in the right direction. But if "the sky is the limit" is referring to this year's team, I think you are going to be disappointed. I think the bulls will get in but you're right it would be a major accomplishment for them to win a playoff series, however if they can some how get into the 6 slot they'd have a pretty good shot at winning their first round matchup, a long way to go but just something to look at with that 6th playoff spot.

Konerko won't play hardball
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 12:04 PM) Right here most of he time you don't "lock-up" players for 1-2 years. Once again where did I say I wanted shingo locked up to a long term deal. All I said was him and Pk are the two main players who are free agents after this year, I never said to lock shingo up to a long term deal.

Konerko won't play hardball
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) Pauly yeah If we can lock him up great lets do it, Does anyone know any other FA 1b are out there for the 05 offseason? Shingo? He has one good half year as the closer and you want to ink him to a long term deal?? Lets see what he does this year before we jump the gun like we did with Uribe. Please show me where I said I wanted shingo locked up to a long term deal??

Ozzie: Lee didn't retaliate, got shipped out
QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 11:49 AM) Sox handled that whole situation better than I would have. They let Jackson get his 1000th appearance and I believe let him pass one other guy on the all time list (Gossage?) who had 1005 ... and cut him afterwards. If it's me, his ass would've been cut a lot sooner. But ... water under the bridge. Jim, I think all of us wanted him gone before that apperance but like you said that's all over now and we don't have to put up with thriller for another year.

Konerko won't play hardball
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) I read this article this morning. This was really refreshing for a change after the soap opera we had to go through last season. It'll be nice to get something done with him so we can see Kong on the south side for a few more years. I agree, Pauly and shingo are the two main guys who are free agents after this year everyone else is locked up, if we can lock up pauly for a few more years this team has a chance to be very good for atleast the next 2-3 years with the current group.

Ozzie: Lee didn't retaliate, got shipped out
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) Please. Like this is just me. If you don't think there's a lot of evidence that AJ's a jerk (like Rooney's quip, like multiple teammates calling him out in the paper), then you're living under a rock. Were you at soxfest?? Like southsider said I think you'd feel much better about aj as a person if you were there. I'm not going to say he's the nicest guy in the world but he's not a clubhouse cancer either, imo.

Ozzie: Lee didn't retaliate, got shipped out
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 11:43 AM) I did learn something interesting about AJ. He grew up in the same neighborhood as Hawk. Hawk knows his whole family and has been talking to AJ personally for years. He has watched AJ play since he was 15 in HS. As a matter of a fact Hawk tried to get the Sox to draft AJ over Mark Johnson. He also has talked to him about the incident in SF and explained it in detail. I feel much better about AJ after listening to AJ talk, and to knowing his connections to this organization. He really has some incentive to be a model citizen. Exactly 2k5, what Hawk said about the cards incident makes a ton of sense to me, I could easily see something like that happening.
