  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 01:29 PM) Well let's say for example he came to the Sox and was an instant star as a pitcher and a hitter far surpassing Anderson;s value after his 1st year. Then an extension could be offered that dwarfs Anderson's deal. I would think the league would be very unlikely to void such a contract extension. If Otani becomes an instant sensation imagine the repercussions on the rebuild, It would give the Sox another star pitcher and hitter. The benefit to the Sox in that case would be astronomical both on the field , in endorsements, and at the box office. There are also a decent amount of contracts that have been offered after first year's. You really don't see hundred million contracts happen until after renewal years are done. Probably 4th year at least, if not 5th to get comps for that.
  2. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 01:12 PM) Its not 300k though if we have that big agreement in place on an extension after his first year. Then you are basically locked in to signing him for that huge contract because it would look really bad and could have repurcusions if you don't go through with the extension. If he is willing to just sign and then talk extension later, then I agree that there is no risk and we should at least throw our hat in the ring. The thing is you can't discuss an extension during these negotiations, that would be considered tampering by MLB and has already been warned against. I would also be willing to bet that any extension that didn't look like an extension that has already been signed by someone around MLB would get thrown out. You are probably talking something like Tim Anderson's contract, and not a nine figure deal.
  3. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 01:01 PM) I simply cannot fathom a team being okay with him making throws in the field between starts. The White Sox are one of the most out of the box teams when it comes to pitchers. I wonder if they might be more open to it than most, especially if it was a dealbreaker for other teams.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 12:35 PM) Actually hope Hahn continues to stay away Not big on this kid If he were actually willing to sign here for $300k there should nothing the White Sox should not do to get him here. That figure is nothing. That is less than minimum wage in MLB.
  5. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) Is that also covering his 2 remaining arb years? Since he opted out of his original contract, yes any extension would cover his arb years. We could go 2018- $10m 2019- $14m 2020- $18m 2021- $18m option ($3m buyout) 3/45 guaranteed or up to 4/60
  6. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) Jose has played very well as far as hitting is concerned through a lot of losing and deserves credit. Based on RH's comments it will be interesting to see what happens moving forward. Much will depend I think on what Jose wants salary-wise and in length of a deal. Phil Rogers wrote this today on the Sox web site: "Abreu wants to stay long term. He's made that clear. Don't be surprised if Hahn offers him a four- or five-year package this winter, which would keep him around through 2021 or '22. If he turns it down, intent to chase maximum value when he reaches the free-agent market, then the White Sox will probably shop him." I could see Abreu taking a modest 3/4 year deal to stay. Maybe a 3/45 works?

  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 10:47 AM) I'm anxious to hear org views on Sosa. The have only moved a few guys here at 17. That is probably the biggest endorsement of Sosa that I can give.
  9. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) You think teams would try to keep him in the minors for 10 days or whatever it is to get the extra year of control? I feel like a team would have to agree that they will put him on the opening day roster right away. I would imagine that would be a part of the negotiations, and something that he wouldn't agree to.
  10. I would put money that FutureSox is probably the only publication in existence that talked about Ryan Lewis.
  11. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 09:34 AM) We seriously need to get past this. They weren't rebuilding yet when they made that trade. It happened. It's over. Not just referring to you hi8is but just the posts about Tatis in general. WHERE IS OUR LIRIANO?!?!?
  12. The rain we are getting now is an outer band of the storm formerly known as Hurricane Irma.
  13. My guess is that there is no damage to be seen, but he still feels something he doesn't like. MRI is nice, but it isn't 100% either if the damage isn't severe.
  14. It really seems like Ricky is letting the guys run a lot more in the last month. I wonder if there was a comfort thing, or an adjustment being made?
  15. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) Any photogs on the board? I'm debating whether to update my DSLR. I have a Nikon D5000 that I bought 8 years ago. I started reading reviews of some of the newer models and also the mirrorless cameras, so now i'm down the rabbit hole of maybe buying something new. The upgrades seem to be mostly tech upgrades like better autofocusing systems or a touchscreen. Seems like from an image quality perspective there may be a slight bump but not noticeable unless i'm printing off large prints (which I don't do often and when I do they look fine). I'm also debating jumping from Nikon to Canon or even Sony for their mirrorless camera. Problem is I have 3 Nikon lenses so I would have to start over if I jumped to another brand. I take a ton of photos of my kids and we travel a good amount. But I want to start taking more video and I think Canon DSLR's handle that better than the Nikon. I'm also thinking about buying the new Tamron 18-400mm lens. That's an insane focal length range for one lens. I don't know much about the mirrorless, but I have a cannon DSLR and I use it a ton for both kids, sports, and lake front pics. It works great for me. I have the Tamron 18-250 and use it all of the time.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 12:21 PM) This reminds me of the Sox in 2005. The fade is occurring at about the same time. They will get the ship righted and start sailing soon. The Indians are hot, and that is great for them, but cooling off is going to happen. Except I want to say the Sox were still playing about .500 ball during that stretch. They got almost caught because Cleveland went nuts. The Dodgers are actually collapsing.
  17. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) They are playing at Arrowhead though. I guess it is close enough where parking is shared.

  19. Last night was about as perfect of a night to win as you can get. What was strange was watching KC play just awful and stupid defense.
  20. I really liked him putting down the bunt for a hit last night. Take those free bases where ever you can get them.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 05:53 PM) Let's be honest, everyone uses Waze anyway. Car-nav is kind of dying Google maps is all you really need.
  22. QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 05:31 PM) Same. To me it was obvious that Sanchez was/is superior in every category except speed/stealing. I also preferred him over Saladino. The only thing that Sanchez is going this year above his best minor league years is power, though if you look through his MiLB numbers, once he adjusted to a level he always put up pretty solid doubles and triples numbers. It could be that he is getting stronger as he matures. The rest of his game is pretty similar. He has always hit for a high average once he had time at a level.
  23. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 05:29 PM) Sure am glad that the free agent market isn't the only place to find a good closer. They can be traded for later as needed or even better, develop one. Hmm, a good example might be the one a few are pining for. Yep, it was the White Sox that developed Reed as a closer. Point is, why go out and sign Addison Reed when it's possible we already have the future closer in the system? The Sox have a ton of lively arms and I see no reason why the future closer will not come from within the Sox system. Lol, f***ing incredible. After all the complaining about Robertson's contract, the Sox find a team to trade for that contract and the next great idea is to repeat that process with Reed? Insanity. That's why I said the White Sox are going to see who fails as a starter and which relievers in the minors are going to help them before they worry about the big market. They have some big arms coming through the system, and not all are going to make it as starters.
  24. QUOTE (Superstar Lamar @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 04:44 PM) Didn't they have exactly the same guy you are describing just last year in Saladino? Just like Saladino this year, I wouldn't bank on Sanchez' performance to be repeated Are you predicting a back injury for Sanchez?
  25. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 04:21 PM) Sorry to change the subject but the new Ken Burns documentary on the Vietnam War starts Sunday on PBS. 10 parts, 10 days in a row, i think. Sweet, can't wait.
