  1. Trust me, or ask a Greek speaking friend. It ain't yee-ro or ji-ro. The y sound comes from the back of the throat and the r should almost sound like a "d". But, yes, you still might get slapped.
  2. false. it's a gutteral "Y" sound, not a soft "G"; also, the "R" should be rolled once.
  3. Your posting really has gotten insufferable. You are extremely knowledgeable and clearly have good insider intel. I also actually don't disagree with a lot of what you say, but do you really have to say it ALL THE TIME? You're becoming an SNL caricature like Debbie Downer with your constant Eeyore posts. Like I alluded, I generally like you, but please lighten up a bit.
  4. Several weeks ago I declared 56 wins to be my White Sox over/under total for this season. I still stand by that and would bet the over, based on what I have seen to date. I have minimal comfort beyond 56.
  5. Your point about the difficulty of hitting is valid, but if a hitter wants to take a walk, I suspect there will be the opportunity to earn it by not swinging. There could be a benefit to not always rewarding a hitter for constantly spoiling off pitches close to the zone until the pitcher is worn out and gives in.
  6. There is definitely an argument to be made for capping the number of pitches per at bat not only for pitcher's health but also to keep the game moving. Right now, the maximum not counting fouls is 6. I think a max of 8-10 could be reasonable. I suspect the history of balls and strikes were to give a hitter a reasonable chance to put a ball in play. The pitcher needs to throw it within a zone that gives hitters that chance. If they just keep spoiling off good pitches, though, it seems to defeat that rationale.
  7. OK, how in the heck is this news not reported on mlb.com yet? I mean I know he was banned, but I think this is even bigger than the Mets-Braves DH IMHO.
  8. I don't disagree with the assessment and suspect 2024 will prove to be one of the worst all time Sox season records. However, I actually enjoyed watching last night's game.
  9. No one has mentioned Paniagua yet? Steve Dahl should get honorable mention as well.
