I'd personally only use 6 out of the pen...and I don't think in 2005 or 06 the Twins and the Sox will be the only teams competing...we will have 3 other teams to worry about then....maybe not so much the Tigers or Royals, but I still worry...especially about the Royals. They are on the verge of putting together a good team...they just need some help from their youngsters...they will be fine in the end...not so sure about the Tigers....they could be in trouble. Anyways, we won't need 3 lefties in the bullpen and if lefties are at the same high price they are at now, Marte will be making $2-3 million within a couple years...and when you got a Royce Ring and an Arnaldo Munoz, who needs to keep Marte at $2-3 mill a year? He's good, but you don't need someone like that. My bullpen would be: Koch Munoz Ring Almonte Majewski Sanders/Biddle/Glover/Ginter

Thomas likely to stay with Sox? He is a Sox in 2003

moyer wants 3 years / 27 million...i dont think our 1 year 2 million dollar offer will be acceptable to him:D we need what we have needed since KW took the job..left handed power...would be nice to trade CLEE for a starung pitcher then go out and get cliff floyd.. hahahaha..i must be on some good drugs to think that might actually happen:o Good drugs? I think those are some of the best in the nation! -

That works for me...but if I were KW, I'd atleast make an effort for Colon or try to talk to him so we could reach an agreement and sign him long term...if there is no possible way to obtain Colon without spending the farm system or, in other words, giving up 2 great prospects, then either trade CLee for a prospect(s) and sign Moyer or Daal, as you said. Either that or else we can keep CLee...we would have to depend on Liefer or someone else brought in from outside the organization to play LF if we got rid of CLee...I don't think that is that great of a backup option...atleast bring in an Alex Ochoa type to play LF...he would add team speed and make the team's baserunning IQ increase by about 30 points, and that is only with getting rid of CLee! -
Thomas signs new deal Good...very good. Carlos Lee most likely will be traded in the Winter Meetings...and the next thing is is the fact that Thomas's old contract is finally out of the picture....GOOD...now I will never have to hear a word about the diminsihed skills clause or the revised payment right ever again...that along is worth it.

No, beat the Phins this week...then lose out! HEHE

Married with Children is still on....it is reruns, but is still on. I know it was based in Chicago and that Frank Thomas was on one episode, during the strike. I have got to see that one....it is a necessity.

If we are going to sign a catcher, why not re-ink the ageless wonder, Mark Dalesandro? lol Krueter would be fine by me....him or Greg Myers or someone like that. Just make sure that whoever it is is pretty good defensively and has a good arm.

To tell everyone the truth...I haven't a clue what I was thinking. I think what Keith said initially infuriated me at first and I still hadn't thought about it till last night....maybe I shouldn't get pissed about it....after all, with Williams at the head of the office, anything can happen....I guess what pissed me off was that he had to continue on and say what has been sais numerous times already. What really pissed me off I guess was the fact that he was just basically taking a shot at the organization....bringing up a dead topic. It would be like a Cub fan saying "Ha, your fans attacked a first base coach" in June of 2004....it's been stated and has been put in the rear view mirror, but then it is stated again....I got one thing to say about this....who the hell cares about this kind of s*** anymore? I personally don't...I've heard it, and I know about it...I could care less if Ronnie Woo-Woo said it. I wouldn't pay any attention to it. Tell me something I don't know. Anyways, to take our eyes off the subject at hand, did you see what John Olerud will be making per year? $8 million! That is way, way too high....he will hit .300 20 100 for you as well as play great defense, but I would rather take Konerko for that kind of money, such as we are doing right now....atleast Paulie has more upside...I think Konerko is going to be a household name and will become a star some day...in no way will he be as good as Maggs, but he will pretty good and a star none the less. -
HSC, I should have clarified...we wouldn't be able to resign him if we were to trade for him...he'd want $10 mill a year, plus Maggs's salary will balloon, Konerko's salary will be higher, as well as Koch's and Buehrle's...that more than makes up for the $5 million that would be saved with Jose leaving...and puts our salary at about $60 or so million, I suppose. And after next year, Osuna will be out of the picture, guarenteed(YES!!!)...which puts us at about $7-8 million extra...so maybe at about $57 million without Colon's new contract added on. You think JR is going to let our salary be $67 million or so? I doubt it. We couldn't financially trade for and then sign Colon to a long term deal. Right now, I personally believe we should add a cheap option from free agency(I hate to say that because that's what we've done the past couple years and it has come back and bit us in the ass)...we gotta hope for another 2000 if we want to win. I personally do not care if we win or not next year...we will have Koch for a while, we'll have to resign Marte, Garland, etc...we will have to let go of some players, sad as it may be, unless JR does open the wallet or people start to show up to Comiskey. Maybe he can sell the naming rights, make the stadium look like that computer image, and people will start to come....or maybe he can just sell the team to some really really rich guy that will dish out the cash. I still think next year will be very fun....whether or not we win. The young guys will be fun to watch play...I can't wait.
-
I suggested the same type of thing last year too...having Konerko bat 3rd...he seemed perfect...and then he stunk it up in the second half...he hit 7 homers in the second half...that is unacceptable, IMO...Thomas hit .359 in September...which is great, and that's not very hard to understand. I'd have to say that this up and coming spring training will be very important for Thomas and Konerko, to determine who will bat 3rd and who will bat 5th.

The same thing that Durham said, as well as Thomas...I haven't seen where Konerko or Valentin said it, but I assume they did...talking about the hall monitor buisness...it's bulls*** and all, but there are certain points when you don't go trashing an organization like that, especially when they are giving you $4 million a year for pitching an inning or two...maybe 6 innings a week. Not only that, but he wasn't happy closing and setting up, or he atleast wanted to start, which is the same thing as not wanting to close or setup, in my books. I would take $1 million to setup or close...because as I said before, you only pitch an inning or two per game that you pitch in(sometimes not even that) and some nights you don't even pitch at all. I just don't think anyone should trash an organization that just paid them $4 million for doing that. There are certain rights as players that you should follow. What Durham said pissed me off too...just not as much. Durham worked hard and produced for the Sox, and he played many innings, giving 100% in each of them(most of the time anyways). He was a very good 1 or 2 hitter for us, wherever he batted in the lineup. Keith pitched an inning or two....do you see what I'm saying yet? Trust me...I love(d) Keith as a pitcher...hell, he was born in South Dakota, my state...when I found that out, I was excited as hell...I believe he grew up elsewhere, but I thought that was neat. However, when players make comments like that, it pisses me off. Trust me, I am ready to be pissed off a whole hell of a lot in my lifetime. -

Why is Keith the "little b****"..?? Because of his comments that he just made....regarding the team and all. I don't care if the clubhouse is like that...if you want any respect at all, you don't make s***ty comments like that. Right now, I have little respect for Ray-Ray...and the only reason I have respect for Thomas is because he has the balls to say it while on the team, and now he has to come back to it(most likely anyways). Trust me, I've always liked Keith as a pitcher...hell, he's been my second favorite White Sox player for a while...but those comments, much like Durham's, piss me off...that and the fact that he was never happy closing. If you are given a job by a team, then you accept it and do it happily. They aren't giving you the money to be unhappy about your job...if I got $4-6 million a year to pitch an inning or two a night, I would do it and I would do it happily, regardless of what the clubhouse or locker room is like. Too bad the problem with this team isn't players spouting off at the mouth after their traded. Considering Big Frank, Paul Konerko, Jose Valentin, Ray Durham, Keith Foulke and other current or former White Sox players have commented to the negative about KW's "hall monitor" practices, perhaps it is KW who has the problem. Perhaps KW is the "little b****." KW is also a little b****...I should have mentioned that. You are very right. Foulke's on my s*** list now...and Durham is too, to a certain extent...he actually produced for us. With Foulke not being happy he was in the bullpen making $4 million pitching one or two innings at a time...that really pisses me off. Durham actually earned his money. Foulke didn't. -
Course they said that in the Siro deal too....nothing bad came out of that(except didn't Brian Simmons have to go back to Toronto? Jeez, what a loss! We picked him backup off waviers and then cut him again too)....and Selig and Reinsdorf are friends aren't they? I mean I know friendship has nothing to do with buisness, but he'd give more leeway to JR because of the fact that Selig's daughter is in Milwaukee and will be up with JR...and Selig can trust his daughter, can't he? Maybe I don't quite understand buisness yet...all I understand is baseball and the moves. Anyways, we couldn't resign him anyways...I just thought I'd let everyone know about this whole thing.
-
I heard that too....it was from the MLB thing...they were talking about why he got Koch...KW said he had been after him for a couple years(this is his 3rd year as a GM...was he going to try and trade one of his other injury bug men to Toronto to try and get Billy out of him in his first year? Or was he trying to screw them over last year when Oakland acquired him in the first place? what a dips***)....I believe he then went on to say that he did have control of him for three years....I just think it's him being the same dips*** he is and not realizing that Koch is arbitration eligible and the fact of the matter is he will probably get a bunch more in arbitration....he better have signed him, or else KW is in for a surprise. He also said "this is a baseball move." Can this guy get any f***ing stupider?
-
You are thinking they will call the trade bad because of tampering, of something of the sort? Because I personally don't see what is wrong with JR going up there to help clean and what not and then having KW trade for him...what's unethical about that?
-
And with CJ heading to Colorado, I would almost expect him to have another big year...if not, his career will be over, unless he takes a backup job elsewhere for not much money. If we got CJ, he would need to suck this year and be willing to take on time as the backup catcher. Just because he sucked in Florida doesn't mean he will suck in Colorado...Colorado's thin air may help him big time...if not, we may be able to sign him to about $500,000-$1,000,000 in 2004....that's about it, IMO.
-
Give up a couple minor league prospects, at the most....and make them bullpen pitchers too. I think that if the Cubbies sign IRod, their team ERA will increase....they may not realize it, but IRod doesn't call many good games....and I don't have to find anything to tell you that. Just look at some of the Rangers past playoff teams...Ken Hill led the team in ERA in 1996...Aaron Sele in 1998 with a 4.23 ERA...and Aaron Sele again in 1999 with a 4.79 ERA....you think IRod calls good games? I don't...the only reason Texas was winning was because they had a good bullpen and an incredible offense...that year, only 3 people didn't hit 20 homers, and even Royce the Choice hit 14...they scored 945 runs and allowed 859....IRod may not be all the good they think he can or will be.

Just found this on the Yahoo! baseball site.... Click here It appears Montreal will have to dump salary...I just hope KW doesn't get us screwed over trading to a team that is looking to just dump salary...that is, if we traded for one of their pitchers. It could be interesting....I'm not sure if I can wait for the Winter Meetings to arrive...I am excited that we may get to see new personell...but I'm a little weary of the fact that KW is making the trade, not Billy Beane or Dave Towers or Ron Scheuler, but Kenny Williams...it kind of scares me. I hate this feeling!

Commentary: Sox Acquire Closer of the Present and Future

I'll tell you what my crystal ball says...come December 8th, that is. -
HSC, I took everything you say seriously....if you said "I'm going to kick your ass" I'm going to look at my ass and watch for a foot. If you say "Quit kissing up" I'll never again get a girlfriend that is taller than me. If you say "Brown noser" I will color my nose brown with a marker. OK, maybe not....but when it comes to baseball and prospects and the like, I do....I believe you said that Maggs was going to be good....and you've said that Almonte, Miles, Olivo and Valentine are all going to be good. I've only been able to see one of them on TV, being Olivo, but he was pretty damn good from what I saw, for a September callup anyways. I just wish we hadn't given up Valentine...man that hurts. Then again, if we want a power reliever with a decent to good curve, we have Dan Wright now don't we?
-
We have Thomas, Maggs and Konerko for the middle of the order with Crede at #6 and Valentin at the #2 spot, assuming we traded away Carlos. And if we signed Hollandsworth(like you and I and a lot of other people would like) he could bat 8th with Rowand taking over the #7 spot. In other words, the lineup would be: 1) Jimenez 2) Valentin 3) Thomas 4) Ordonez 5) Konerko 6) Crede 7) Rowand 8) Hollandsworth 9) Olivo If we don't get Hollandsworth, we still have Liefer to take over LF...if that happened, I'd start him out in the 7 spot with Rowand batting 8th. We will be strong...so why would we need Lee? What we need is more speed, and with Hollandsworth, Rowand, Olivo, and Jimenez, we will have plenty of speed, and Paul has good speed as well. One of Thomas and Lee will not be with us next year...probably Lee.
-
I'd have to agree with the Valentine assessment HSC...Valentine I was sure was going to be a stud and I wanted to see him pitch....IN A WHITE SOX UNIFORM. The two prospects he gets in return damn well better be as good as him...otherwise I don't mind the trade. If they can lock Koch up for $5 million a year, maybe 4-years, $20 million, I'd be happy....that would have him earning $3.5 mill this year and having it increase a million each year, and then if Koch continues to pitch well, we resign him. However, the fact of the matter is every GM will make a good trade now and then....s*** even Dave Dombrowski in Detroit made a fair deal, getting rid of Randall Simon for Adrian Burnside and another prospect...those pitchers are probably pretty good, and Dombrowski is clueless...I think's thats his name. Anyways, he's got the right strategy...get pitching first, then concentrate on the offense...and the Tigers have some decent pitching too...the keyword there is decent. Anyways, what I'm worried about is the Winter Meetings...I am thinking I'd rather get no deal done for a starter and just signing one...no limit to what KW would spend to get the guy he wants...just look at Ritchie....he wanted him so badly that he gave up Wells, Fogg and Lowe. I hope we can get to that state at some time and then he can be the one trading the Ritchie-esque pitcher for 3 good, healthy pitchers.
-
Goddamn I don't want Osuna in our bullpen...let the kids pitch. Get that man out of here...I don't give a s*** how good he is. Valentine is out of here, and that's one young arm I wanted to see on the White Sox this year pitch...and now I don't get that chance. Get Almonte up here...I want to see him pitch before he is dealt as well...get Majewski up here too...get the older guys out of here. With Foulke gone atleast let the bullpen just go about things on their own, much like they did in 2000...one pitcher who was just really beginning his career in Foulke, but a very talented group of guys. This year, let Koch take the place of Foulke and everyone young take the place of everyone young in 2000, meaning get rid of Osuna...I don't care if we get a PTBNL, like we did for Herbert...as long as it unloads him and his $2 million I'll be happy. The man is going to make me have a heart-attack as long as he's in a White Sox uniform and I'm f***ing 15.
-
Garland's gonna be a stud...he's just not a phenom like Buehrle...he'll eventually realize how to harness his stuff and just pitch, like Buehrle does now. The same things will happen with Honel and Diaz in the future, assuming the stay with us and aren't traded...I have a feeling Rauch will be winning an award this year for best of his kind, because he's a stud. He's got great stuff, and really knows how to pitch. And if he's got the right kind of mentality, will realize that pitching a third of an inning against the Mariners while allowing a ton of runs was just a fluke. And about that award....to give you a hint...it's not manager of the year award.
