Off-Season Pass the Time Catch-All
Sigh...

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
If Fuller and Thames don't see any reasons for encouragement...no reason to prolong the inevitable. Just DFA him. There have been character as well as performance red flags. He clearly needs a change of scenery.

But for one 40-45 FV Chase Meidroth...including recently trimmed unibrow.

Predict the White Sox win total 2025
"The White Sox can’t be as bad as last year, because they lost 121 games, and that’s almost impossible to do even once, much less twice, particularly because there’s evidence they were unlucky. When you lose three of your best hitters to baserunning injuries in the first two weeks of the season, that’s when you’ve moved officially beyond “not enough talent” to “straight-up snakebitten.” They were probably more like a 110-loss team that also had things go badly; on the other hand, the 2025 team won’t have the services of Garrett Crochet, Michael Kopech, or Michael Soroka. There is, at least, plenty of high-level talent on the way – and plenty of confidence for right now. Perhaps, even, too much." mlb.com Mike Petriello

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
Rojas is basically GG caliber there at 3B. Why does anyone think that Sosa's capable of even pusing up a neutral defensive rating at SS? I can't think of one thing he does extremely well there.

Gerrit Cole to have TJS....likely won't be back until mid-2026
Looks like Jared Jones of the Pirates is next for TJS...huge blow to their franchise.

3/19 - Sox @ Brewers, 3:10- CDT - spring training
He has been closer to Madrigal this spring, unfortunately. Nevertheless, Chase will have plenty of time this year to sink or swim at the major league level. Let's see how he adapts to life outside the Red Sox position player production line...just like Vargas seemingly went into temporary shock, psychologically. Maybe he's just now finally emerging from that haze which descended upon him after departing the Dodgers.

Off-Season Pass the Time Catch-All
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/03/offseason-in-review-chicago-white-sox-17.html Managers can occasionally ride out rebuilding years, proving themselves on soft factors and retaining the job when the team gets good. The Orioles' Brandon Hyde did this. Grifol, however, did not warrant that level of faith. Given a clean offseason slate to choose his own manager, Getz ran an extensive search that included Will Venable, Daniel Descalso, Phil Nevin, George Lombard, A.J. Ellis, Donnie Ecker, Danny Lehmann, Clayton McCullough, Craig Albernaz, and many others whose names did not reach the media. Getz had competition from the Marlins on several of these candidates. He ultimately chose Venable on October 29th. McCullough landed the Marlins gig not long after, while Nevin still landed with Chicago but as a special assistant in their player development department. The Princeton-educated Venable became the 44th manager in White Sox history, and he takes over a team that has nowhere to go but up. Getz himself was the beneficiary of Jerry Reinsdorf's "I didn’t have to interview these people, because I knew them all" hiring

Shane Smith has taken over as story of spring
"The Sox could certainly live with more of what Smith has given them over his last three Cactus League outings. Since surrendering four runs over 1 2/3 innings in his first appearance of the spring, he’s thrown nine scoreless frames over which he walked one and struck out 10. Five of those strikeouts came in three innings against the vaunted Dodgers’ lineup on March 8, and two of those were against reigning National League MVP Shohei Ohtani." www.mlb.com

Shane Smith has taken over as story of spring
https://www.mlb.com/news/shane-smith-davis-martin-making-final-spring-training-adjustments&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwjBrL3pw5eMAxUWsFYBHdypDBwQ0PADegQIAhAH&usg=AOvVaw0XU8KY9-si0QzIlN_y6G9p “He pitched very well today,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said. “He’s got a good arm… I thought he showed great promise.” Smith has yet to officially make the White Sox roster, but it would be malpractice for them to not add him – thus offering him back to the Brewers – with the arsenal he possesses and spring he’s had (3.38 ERA in 10 ⅔ innings, including a two-strikeout game of Shohei Ohtani). “It would mean a whole lot more than I can say right now,” Smith said. “Whatever decision they can make, I can live with. I felt like I put my best foot forward this spring, so whatever they decide, I can live with it.” https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2025/03/19/former-brewers-prospect-shane-smith-dominating-as-white-sox-rule-5-pick/82539676007/&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwjBrL3pw5eMAxUWsFYBHdypDBwQ0PADegQIAhAL&usg=AOvVaw0FIYILkN8QfUJDalQBFQix PHOENIX – Ten months ago, Shane Smith was an undrafted 24-year-old reliever at Class AA. Now, a starting pitcher with a different organization, he’s throwing 98 mph with ease and a surefire member of an opening day big-league rotation. Typically, this would be the sort of story that typifies the Milwaukee Brewers’ pitching development. But, instead, roles are reversed. If Smith, who’s still living with former Brewers minor-league teammates Logan Henderson, Tate Kuehner and Brett Wichrowski, looks like he did against his former club on Wednesday, he could end up being one that got away.

The next round of cuts
Is the relative value of Mayo vs. Miguel Vargas on March 19th, 2025 REALLY up for argument?

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
You know Schiffren's just chomping at the bit to work it into one of his sign-offs at the end of a (rare) White Sox victory.

New Food and Drink Items 2025
Biggest headline of another off season is related to concession items. That's when you know your team is really in dire straights at the turnstiles.

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
Of course, the White Sox also have the example of Brett Myers here.

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
Next to zero...the sad part of all this is they could have picked up Taylor or the equivalent of him WHEN THEY ACTUALLY DID TRADE ROBERT for basically major league minimum. (The Padres waited until the end of spring training and got Jose Iglesias in this exact same way.) Now we're committed to Tauchman, Slater and Taylor. Not that anyone's really being blocked...other than Fletcher/Colas/DeLoach/Veras (if you really want to make the argument he's close to ready, or even DJ Gladney.)

Well that's pretty much the end of Eisert making the team...but the Charlotte/Chicago shuttle will be quite lively this summer.

3/19 - Sox @ Brewers, 3:10- CDT - spring training
Hank Aaron and Meidroth in the same sentence? He's much closer to 5'9" even 5'8"... like a mirror of Fletcher. At any rate, anyone contributing to this Sox offense in April is going to be pulling off a minor miracle.

3/19 - Sox @ Brewers, 3:10- CDT - spring training
Meidroth gunned down on the basepaths trying to go second to third on a FC... Still not seeing what he does besides walks and a few singles.

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
S.Wilson over Gilbert Is Varland really such a sure thing? And Josh Rojas is definitely starting on the DL? They're eventually going to have to choose between Meidroth and Baldwin.

All things LA Dodgers Thread...
This is going to be typical Dodgers. No Betts Freeman Sasaki walks five and is pulled after three IP but bullpen and offense covers it all up. Amazing that Steele has done as well as he has pitching in the Drew Thorpe speed zone.
