Walks
With all these vets like Tauchman Slater Rojas Drury...maybe Gallo (hopefully not), getting more at-bats, you'd like to think NOT. Not to mention that guys like Vargas and Meidroth are known for their walks/OBP numbers. With the pitching staff...god knows, but that's where most of the talent (at least future talent) lies with this organization. For now, they're known as more of a high-contact, get outs in 2-3 pitches type of staff, so we shall see. Shane Smith and Thorpe should be two of the higher K guys, but Cannon/Martin/B.Wilson/Perez more pitch to contact. Maybe Martin's somewhere in between if his stuff keeps ticking up coming off surgery. Lots more work for Bannister/Katz.

Passan address current challenges with TB/A's stadium situations, cites Sox and Royals predicaments
On Thursday, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that while no deal was close, a group of businesspeople local to the Tampa Bay area have started to put together ownership groups with their sights set on purchasing the team. Drellich’s report expands on that report, confirming that no sale is close but that “several groups” with ties to Florida have expressed interest in purchasing the club. Drellich reports that those involved include the family of San Francisco 49ners owner Edward DeBartolo Jr., former Yankees minority owner Joe Molloy, and Tampa-area businessman Dan Doyle Jr. Seems pretty likely they would either be staying in Tampa or moving no further than Orlando...

https://www.tampabay.com/sports/rays/2025/03/09/tampa-businessman-interested-buying-rays-keeping-them-st-pete/ Molloy is George Steinbrenner's former son-in-law and 64 years old...and seemingly NOT a billionaire, lol. Of course, former Red Barry Larkin is leading a group attempting to get a new team in Orlando or theoretically moving the Rays there as yet another possibility. Under Molloy's leadership, the Yankees invested money into player development and scouting. He green-lit the selection of Derek Jeter in the 1992 MLB Draft. Steinbrenner was reinstated on March 1, 1993, and Molloy remained a general partner. Molloy planned the development of Legends Field as a new spring training complex for the Yankees.[1] He was also involved in hiring Bob Watson as the team's new general manager.[5] In 1997, Molloy requested a one-year leave of absence from the Yankees due to the stress of the job and George's managing style. Molloy and Jessica separated in January 1998. He officially resigned from the Yankees in February, and filed for divorce in March. After leaving the Yankees, he returned to teaching.[1] In 2017, Molloy joined a group that attempted to purchase the Miami Marlins of MLB.[6] Joe and Jessica's son, Robert, is a film producer. He runs the production company Pinstripe Productions.[7]

That's a White Sox Winner
The Sox might have the best rotation in baseball (at least best stuff) one day with Schultz Smith Taylor Sh.Smith and ???. Might. And eventually the ability to supplement that young core with hitting and perhaps a closer from Ishbia bucks. And theoretically a new stadium in the next 5-7 years. That's a lot to be excited about. At least ompared to a few months ago. And two high/er draft picks the next two years...in all likelihood three years. Another 3-22 start in March/April though...would set the tenor for the season. Ofc, it depends on the changes in fundamentals/defense, etc., that we see under Venable...at least from the young/er players. That means Sosa/Vargas/Baldwin should prove they belong...and, as of now, it remains to be seen whether Meidroth, Ramos and Colson will be in Charlotte or (one of them) with the big league club, and of course Teel/Quero/B.Montgomery. And all the young pitchers, ofc. Everything else is pretty much window dressing/distraction. Other than that, we're just hoping for health/productivity out of Luis Robert so he can be jettisoned for the highest possible return.

3/9 - Sox @ Guards - 3:05 CDT - spring training
Balta is boycotting again as long as Clevinger's on the team or at least spring training roster? does Charlotte still count, lol?

3/9 - Sox @ Guards - 3:05 CDT - spring training
Dalbec must have requested playing the whole game at third...quite rare for this time in camp. Unfortunately, he hasn't done anything productive with it.

3/9 - Sox @ Guards - 3:05 CDT - spring training
DJ Gladney can cover some ground in CF. Pallette at 95-96.
-
3/9 - Sox @ Guards - 3:05 CDT - spring training
Altavilla up to 97. Has a good cutter/slider. Dominated Guardians' minor leaguers.
-
3/9 - Sox @ Guards - 3:05 CDT - spring training
Amaya drove a double to CF over Jackson Chourio's brother...stranded. 3 hits on the day. Vaughn and Drury the other two.

3/9 - Sox @ Guards - 3:05 CDT - spring training
Karinchak just not effective at 93...and zero ability to hold runners on with that unorthodox wind up. Somehow he discovered an effective curve and got 2 k's. Clevinger at 95 and two K's...feels pretty likely he makes the team with all the injuries. Venable said he might not name an official closer the entire season.

2026 MLB Draft Thread...White Sox Control Draft/V.Lackey closing fast
How tall is Lebron?

3/9 - Sox @ Guards - 3:05 CDT - spring training
2/20 offense Adams did pretty well. Montgomery made it back...k and a ground out. Not fair to randomly face Clase in the middle of a game lol.

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
A big part of it must be having no way forward with getting significant public stadium funding without his own skin in the game...losing the local tv ownership...and having no remaining desire to spend in FA.

Dodgers/Sox Opening Day lineup preview?

Shane Smith has taken over as story of spring
9-7...10-7...climbing like the prevailing positivity now taking hold at Soxtalk...for at least 24 hours we can dream on Shane Smith and Grant Taylor.

Shane Smith has taken over as story of spring
Sox fans are entitled to hope for something more exciting than the latest reiteration of Dylan Covey, Chris Flexen, Clevinger, etc. Tried to do it with Kyle Hurt, but he signed elsewhere. At any rate, might as well stake a position on someone outside of the Big 3...like a much maligned poster did with Giolito in his darkest days in 2017-18. I mean...it's already been 13 long years since another kid from the Yankees/Mets (no prior big league experience) history showed up and started dealing...in Jose Quintana of Colombia. While Shane Smith might eventually end up much closer to Hector Santiago in impact...it's always fun to root for a true underdog story, an undrafted free agent (udfa)

Passan address current challenges with TB/A's stadium situations, cites Sox and Royals predicaments
Fenway Park, Boston Red Sox, 1912. Wrigley Field, Chicago Cubs, 1914. Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles Dodgers, 1962. Angel Stadium, Los Angeles Angels, 1966. Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City Royals, 1973. Rogers Centre, Toronto Blue Jays, 1989. That's it now. The 7th oldest. 1-2-3 not going anywhere. Old Yankee Stadium replaced. Angel Stadium needs a major upgrade. Rogers/Skydome cutting edge for its time but the prevailinng trend is outdoor/grass and retractable roof. Camden Yards 8th oldest.

Passan address current challenges with TB/A's stadium situations, cites Sox and Royals predicaments
What major market team with such a long history has anything lose to less success historically? We can blame the Yankees or Shoeless Joe or the Southside or Sportsvision or Harry Caray or underfunded owners..but it's much more complicated/nuanced than all that.

Passan address current challenges with TB/A's stadium situations, cites Sox and Royals predicaments
There are at least three MLB teams that offered Juan Soto $765 million or more (including the Mets)…so the White Sox are going to get a new stadium, one way or the other. And the Yankees offered one more year and $5 million less. Basically, four teams. That’s over half the private financing for the proposed TB Rays’ new stadium project. Appearing on the Spanish-language Abriendo El Podcast with Dominican reporters Vian Araujo Puello and Ricardo Rodríguez, Soto confirmed that his negotiations came down to five teams: the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays and the Mets. “The Mets weren’t the ones who offered the most money,” Soto said, according to NJ.com. “There were teams that offered more than the Mets.” The Instagram teaser for the interview ends after Rodríguez asks whether Soto would be willing to name those teams. The full podcast is set to be released on Sunday.

Shane Smith has taken over as story of spring
"Side note @ James Fegan— you’ve a quote from Smith in your article on him where he mentions a throwing bullet-style slider after a cutter. Regarding terminology/spring Statcast confusion— is that bullet slider a fifth pitch that he is actively working on, but hasn’t thrown in games so far? Thanks!" soxmachine.com there's also the split/fork change up in his arsenal
