White Sox sign Robbie Grossman to minors deal w/ invite to ML camp
Arguably, those at-bats could/should have gone to Colas, to DeLoach, to Phillips (if they were so determined to keep him on the roster from the beginning). Or Fletcher, obviously. Not going to argue that Sheets should have had MORE opportunities. That's a bridge TOO far. And giving Moustakas all those bats as a "favor" (see Justin Fields/Bears) prevented them from going to Lee, to Popeye, Sosa, etc. If we look at 2017-19, there were numerous players given valuable playing time without any return at all, either via trade or having that playing time actually turn into (at the very least like an Alejandro de Aza) a part-time player to supplement the so-called core super prospects.

Ohtani's interpreter fired for stealing money
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/shohei-ohtani-interpreters-firing-menacing-143106861.html On a grander scale, for you, the sports consumer, it might feel like the slippery slope of gambling and sports fandom is giving way. Yet going on six years in this post-PASPA world, the blinking red lights of major league sports’ loving embrace of gambling can’t be ignored. The guardrails can’t make all that disappear – especially when the game’s participants skew younger and grew up in an environment where having action on a game is not only verboten, it’s incessantly encouraged. That doesn’t mean all the action is dirty, or salacious, for the general public or the stars with nine-figure net worths. We’re going on three or four decades where the clubhouse March Madness pool adds a jolt of energy to the spring training slog – and if you want to know the stakes, just add a few zeroes to the $10 you might be playing with this March. But the occasional pool or friendly wager – and sports’ leagues promotion of that via bracket challenges or the acknowledgement of fantasy sports popularity – is one thing. That teams and leagues are signing partnerships with seemingly any online book that asks is quite another.

White Sox sign Robbie Grossman to minors deal w/ invite to ML camp
https://www.fangraphs.com/players/robbie-grossman/5254/stats?position=OF Well...you might not want to look at his 2022-23 defensive numbers. Or any defensive numbers throughout his career. Negative across the board except for a 0.7+ anomaly mixed in. Call him Robbie Rex Grossman. Although that's probably insulting the QB. It is what it is. I guess the new mandate is not to lose so many games the team's a butt of jokes the media every single day.

Isn't Pillar out of consideration now?

Is that already corrected for Cease being out? You look at all those lost innings from Lynn Gio Scholtens Kopech Toussaint...almost a total reinvention for this year.

Iowa State women with the second biggest comeback in NCAA history. Down 20 in the first half to MD...win by 7. Middle Tennessee State overcame an 18 point deficit to take out Louisville...have won over twenty in a row now. LSU in Baton Rouge next up. Down goes Bruce Pearl...Auburn losing to Yale biggest upset on men's side so far today.

Except "unprecedented financial flexibility" last time ended up almost exclusively in the pockets of 30+ veterans.

Lorenzen signs w/Rangers 1/$4.5 million
Rumors flying that Montgomery is going to end up back with the Yankees after vowing never to return after having been left out of the post-season playoff rotation in the past...money talks. That certainly caused the Rangers to increase their interest in getting a deal done with Lorenzen before there were no options remaining in FA.

If Fletcher is the starting RF and Toussaint the #5 starter, or both Shaw and Chavez make the bullpen... Actually, Lee was one of the best players in camp this spring and never even had a chance. Hearing crap like this actually has a NEGATIVE impact on ticket sales. Boyer's department must be considering a gag order at this point in the proceedings.

John Calipari signed his latest contract with the Kentucky Wildcats ahead of the 2019-20 season. The deal runs through the 2028-29 season and will see him earn $8.5 million in 2024-25 before his salary rises to $9 million per year over the final four years of the deal. Also, don't forget 2019-20/20-21 when evaluating his recent performance/s. Just 6-5 from 2018 through today in the NCAA's. 2023 SEC East 6 beat E 11 Providence 61-53 lost to E 3 Kansas St 69-75 2022 SEC East 2 -lost to E 15 St. Peter's 79-85, OT 2019 SEC Midwest 2 beat M 15 Abilene Christian 79-44 beat M 7 Wofford 62-56 beat M 3 Houston 62-58 -lost to M 5 Auburn 71-77, OT 2018 SEC South 5 beat S 12 Davidson 78-73 beat S 13 Buffalo 95-75 -lost to S 9 Kansas St 58-61

Two #6 upsets already and it doesn't feel like it even matters with UConn a heavy but somewhat unexciting favorite. KY and Purdue losing in their first round or two would be equally expected. Really, the NBA and not UK should actually be paying Calipari to develop its players...but not in combinations that end up with significant tourney success for the university. Finally, has anyone watched a Gonzaga game all year? Would be ironic if they made a run when nobody was expecting it. Nemhard is pretty much the only name I can even remember from past teams.

This year (or maybe it was last season) was the first time the NCAA even allowed the women to dare utilize the term. Might have something to do with the exploding ratings and corporations that have learned the value of targeting female consumers specifically, but I could be wrong, haha. Now it's prominently featured on a special series of basketball cards featuring Clark and other well-known female players.

Cease To Padres per Passan
When there are numerous names related to Chicago White Sox (shocking on a message board named SoxTalk, I know), sometimes it's hard to keep track... Of course, that used to be more of a problem when fan interest was much higher 2-3 seasons ago.
