  1. QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 08:19 PM) The Nexus line (at least, the phones) just isn't built for "average consumers" and this release seems to confirm that. Google thinks the Nexus 5 is still a plenty good phone and their priority is to get a phablet-sized reference device for developers. As far as the price, it is unlike any previous Nexus phone because it absolutely souped up in just about every possible spec. No cut corners to reduce cost. Also, what a bummer with the iPad Mini update. I've got all kinds of Apple enthusiast friends pissed off that all they did was add TouchID (not even an upgrade to the A8x processor) and jacked up the price. Agreed on the pricing. I would have loved a $500 phablet, but I think we've been spoiled the past two years with the Nexus 4 and 5 pricing.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 04:41 PM) Which time? Probably 2010.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 04:10 PM) I'm just so glad Bushrod is back. Maybe Ola can replace Mills now.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 03:20 PM) Well 2 if you count this last 9-0 stretch. Reminds me of 2010 when we were unbeatable for about a 30 game stretch. We were pretty mediocre outside of that.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 03:14 PM) After the Sox beat them on July 21, they were 48-50, then they went on a 24-6 run. They finished the season 17-17. So basically, one hot stretch...
  6. A 6.1 mm iPad. Wow. That's impressive. Although I think we learned from bend-gate that super thin devices made of metal aren't the best idea. It should be a lot harder to bend a tablet unless you try to though. Granted, I'm sure someone will try it and it'll bend and people will freak out.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 12:26 PM) Does it have bloatware? If you get it unlocked or from T-Mobile, no. I had the 2013 Moto X unlocked (for AT&T and T-Mobile) and the T-Mobile one is 100% clean. It's pure Android with some Moto apps and enhancements. The AT&T one had some bloatware on there, but nothing you can't disable.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 12:06 PM) It still annoys me they had to make it so big. A 5.2 inch version would be ideal. You get top end specs and don't have to worry about any bloatware. Moto X 2014. If you're on Verizon, there's a Droid Turbo that's virtually the same phone, but with a QHD display and a 3900 maH battery (that'll last like 2-3 days).
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 11:02 AM) Surprised nobody talked about the new Nexus being released. Much steaper price then previous versions of Nexus. I said this before. A phablet Nexus means a steeper price. The Note 4, for instance is $750 off-contract. I think the iPhone 6 Plus is around the same. So technically, it's $100 cheaper than its competition. However, even I didn't expect a $650 tag. I was thinking more around $500-550. I'm unsure if I want one. First because it's $700 after taxes and second because it's so damn big. It's taller, wider, and thicker than the Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus. I'd have to hold one in person to get a better judgment. If I don't like it I might just go get a Moto X 2014 or stick with my Nexus 5 (works perfectly fine still). I was going to hold off on the Nexus 9 until I saw the videos and pics that were released today. It's a really well built tablet that I think rivals the iPad in terms of build quality. It's slightly smaller and about the same in thickness. Pre-orders start tomorrow so I might have to nab one. $470 for a 32 GB isn't cheap though. A lot of people complained that the Nexus line wasn't premium enough in previous years and that compromises were made. Well those people got their wish this year. These two devices are top of the line and flag-ship quality. However, it came at a price. What I find interesting is that Google's doing a pre-order system this year. Maybe it'll finally make the device releases less hectic and crappy. Google's servers got bombarded during the two previous releases because the demand for the devices was much larger than they anticipated.
  10. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 11:01 AM) But that was when it included Soria and when Tim Collins was a monster. Hawk didn't see Wade Davis coming. To be fair, Davis was pretty effective as a relief pitcher with the Rays 2 years ago.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 09:38 AM) Yeah, the KC model is to collect as many guys as you can that throw 98 MPH and go from there. That's what we tried in 07 and look how that turned out. lol It's hit and miss, like most bullpens are.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 11:02 AM) Jeff Banister is the Rangers manager. Career OPS+ of 469. Not bad. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/banisje01.shtml But it was a hell of a plate appearance...
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 03:30 PM) This Royals team is eerily reminiscent of both the 2005 White Sox but also the 2007 Rockies. Unfortunately, I was betting on baseball back in 2007 and lost about $100 betting on the Rockies. They're going to have a long layoff between now and the World Series.
  14. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 12:42 PM) I remember the reasoning being that we had already won 2-3 against NY so we were going to save Mark for the next series. So dumb. And that kind of thinking is why he got fired after that year. We were loaded in 2003 and he managed to choke away a September lead.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 10:57 AM) Steamer projects a 109 wRC+. You wouldn't take something like that batting 5th or 6th? I'd like to think there are better options. Edit: looks like Markakis doesn't struggle against lefties (around same average and OBP, more power off righties). If that's the case, Robin might actually hit him behind Eaton.

QUOTE (bear_brian @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 10:52 AM) The Orioles just declined the option on Markakis. He is not as good as Melky offensively, but would solidify our outfield defense and could hit second behind Eaton. Wonder what he will be asking? Sub .400 SLG the past two years. If you hit him second, that's fine, but that doesn't cut it for a guy who might hit 3rd, 5th, or 6th on this team.
  17. Wow. Friedman with that kind of money? This should be interesting.
  18. So I just got sick for the first time in a long time...and of course the idea of ebola crossed my mind since I actually live fairly close to Dallas. Thankfully it's just the flu.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 03:32 PM) Oh but then without Neal Cotts, what do the White Sox do in 2005? But yeah, Koch sucked, even if he was a great guy. Remember when Jerry Manuel started Neal Cotts instead of Buehrle on short rest in Yankee Stadium and Cotts got his ass kicked? Good times. I think we lost the game Buehrle started the next day anyhow.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 11:19 AM) Was one of the best trades you could make for an ace. I still have no idea how that team, with all the talent, didn't go anywhere. I remember Colon was just filthy down the stretch that year. It was the Twins. I remember we had a lead going into the Metrodome and they straight up swept us. We had 3 of the best starters in the AL that year and somehow ended up not making the playoffs. Had we actually made the playoffs, I think we could have made a nice run. But you could have said that about 2003, 2006, 2010, etc. In other words, f*** the Twins.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 10:53 AM) 2-1 this week. Two 5-1 teams, one 3-3. I have no idea why my 3-3 team is failing. How can you lose with this roster? Jay Cutler Chi - QB Tony Romo Dal - QB Dez Bryant Dal - WR Percy Harvin Sea - WR Sammy Watkins Buf - WR Cordarrelle Patterson Min - WR Dwayne Bowe KC - WR C.J. Spiller Buf - RB Andre Ellington Ari - RB Ben Tate Cle - RB Zac Stacy StL - RB Trent Richardson Ind - RB Vernon Davis SF - TE Jared Cook StL - TE Nick Novak SD - K Buffalo - DEF Your RBs aren't that good. That's why. You have a bunch of guys who can get you 10-20 points a week when things go their way, but you don't have a guy who will definitely get you 10-20 points a week (Jamaal Charles, Demarco Murray, Matt Forte, etc.).
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 09:08 AM) that is the best part. you better hope you dont have a girl on the way, because 6 years from now you WILL know what the equivalent of that song is That's gonna be Steve at a One Direction concert.
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 06:45 AM) My wife has the 2nd most points in our league and is 1-5. Fantasy football sucks. I have the most points in the league and I'm 3-3. Go figure.
  24. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 10:32 PM) One Direction come through crystal clear for ya? For all we know, Steve's singing along to "You don't know you're beautiful" right now.
  25. I'm gonna lose by 1 for the second straight week. You can't make this s*** up.
