  1. Sizemore will be lucky to get 1yr/5 mil. His health is a total wildcard and he wasn't great the last time he was healthy. Santiago is not good enough to get Trumbo+ . Lefties with control issues are pretty common and they still have money to blow.

  3. I mean they're paying Keppinger a lot of money, they don't want him to just sit absorbing cash. Semien has played a full season already and has the AFL after as well, he will be fine. I do want to see more L Garcia tho.
  4. Maybe I missed it but is this the first confirmation from Bell that the Sox will be expanding into the AZL next year? Always good to gain an affiliate, especially when trying to grow an MiLB system.
  5. Pls don't lump me in with Greg. I am saying Cubs because they have more young talent at the MLB level and in the minors, and more money to spend on top of that.
  6. Cubs. Probably in the next 2-3 years as a wild card.

This may not be terrible popular but... Mark Trumbo? The Angels need good young pitching, we need good young hitting, we have an open spot at 1B... I mean yeah he has a .300 OBP but he also mashes 30 taters a year in a much more RH-neutral home park. Santiago for Trumbo? I'd do it.
  8. Both. Realistically they wont get the top pick. But even the way things are the Sox are like, 4 games behind the Cubs for the 4th pick. They can keep playing mostly crappy and with some growth to the youngins and retain the 3rd pick. Worst that happens is they pick what, 5th or so? There isn't much difference between the two, esp with this draft being so loaded with pitching.
  9. Johnson is one of the best SP prospects in baseball at this point so they won't trade him except in a package for a big bat. Santiago I could see moved for LoMo plus MiLB pieces. His walks sap his value, although he has been better as a starter. The main question is why the Marlins would be buying when they are as bad, if not worse, than the Sox?
  10. That part in particular seems to be blatant spinning of systemic failure. If this org had any reasonable success developing position players in the last decade, he might have a leg to stand on.
  11. Moving Axe to the BP just seems to accentuate his meat-throwing tendencies. Keep him around to lose games and then back to AAA next year. He can take Flowers with him.
  12. Peavy always had trouble with KC. Guess that carried over to Boston.
  13. Its uncanny, really. He's the reverse stopper, just put him in and you're ready to go home.

I would imagine getting Semien looks at 2B, 3B and SS will give him enough playing time to evaluate a MLB trial. Beckham shouldn't have to move, since he has been productive and is still more than capable at 2B. Just bench Keppy the rest of the season and rest Becks and Alexei every few days.
  15. I don't really get what Rios' "issues" or "baggage" is. Is it because he was a jerk to a fan once, or because he had a terrible season one time, or is it cause he dogs it when he grounds into a double play? I feel like these probably describe 70% of ballplayers. He is good and he has value, although its nowhere near what Hahn was supposedly asking. Luke Jackson and Leury Garcia plus small cash.
  16. Sale is cheap for several more years. If the Sox don't have a contending team by 2016, they can still deal him for a lot of value. Why give up now? I could see moving Addison Reed, but even then, not until next deadline, if the team is tanking again.

    Donger for Semien.
  18. Gameday says minimal cutter usage. He seems to be getting lots of groundballs, which is encouraging.

It's the contract. He might draw some looks if he clears waivers, but the teams that need him (BMore, Texas) can't afford him. Or else they're the Yankees and are trying to cut payroll for '14.
  20. Yeah every time Hawkins seems to be making progress he has a massive streak of 0-fers with multiple k's. I want to think his abject failure, along with that of Carlos Sanchez, will teach the org. a lesson about being overly aggressive with very young hitters. I want to...
  21. 1. Garcia 2. Johnson 3. Semien 4. Hawkins 5. Rienzo 6. Tim Anderson 7. Trayce Thompson 8. Jacobs 9. Barnum 10. Olacio Still pretty bad, but improving.
  22. So instead of Peavy you get Hart or Morales. Or both if you manage to trade Rios. Low level, value FA are what the Sox should target for next year - they have some good, cost controlled young pitching and virtually nothing in the minors knocking on the door. Conservatively roll the dice, and if the team stinks again, you sell the FA gets and try again the next year until you have some star power built up in your system.
  23. We didn't acquire Rios until Aug 9th if I recall so we won't see anything form for a while.
  24. Someone will claim them, but no trade will be made.
