A Swarzak + Melky package to a contender
ChiSox59 replied to TheFutureIsNear's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 04:21 PM) Anybody else surprised by the general attitude towards Melky's trade value in the media? I'm not suggesting he has a ton of value and should net us a top 100 prospect, but I keep reading that he has pretty much 0 value. Mlbtraderumors had an article about tradeable Of'ers and suggested we'd have to pay all of Melky's contract just to be able to get rid of him. Am I missing something? He's top 14 in OPS among AL Of'ers (and that's including a slow 1st 100 ab's) and isn't THAT bad in the field. I definitely wouldnt call him good in the field, but he's not an absolute butcher in the field that hurts the team either. He's a flat out professional hitter that can give really good AB's to most contenders for the rest of the season in my opinion. Or am I wrong on this? And I'm usually more pesimistic about sox players than most. Not really. Melky is a solid bat. But he is below average in the OF and is paid like a star. If the Sox pick up the whole tab, they may get someone who has a chance to be a big leaguer someday, but there just isn't going to be much of a market. A much better player in JD Martinez just got a pretty awful return last week. To expect more for Melky is nuts, though I wouldn't put it past Hahn. -
Building quite the bullpen down in Charlotte, soon to be Chicago.

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) I'd be shocked if a contender did not pick up Swarzak to help reinforce the bullpen for the stretch. Swarzak has the 7th highest WAR for relievers in the mlb this season and great peripherals. I'm a bit surprised he has not been dealt yet. Honestly, me too. Must mean nothing overly intriguing has been offered. But at this point, he is our best chip of guys who are likely to be moved, so maybe Hahn is just holding out for now. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 02:09 PM) I love the thrill of victory, though, and watching the walk off celebrations and seeing guys like TA or Davidson win games via the walk off or stellar overall play. Also I don't like some of the opponents much such as the Royals, Twins, Cubs. Sure. Wins here and there are inevitiable. But the Sox are much better off losing that extra 5-8 games that gets them the #1 or #2 pick instead of the #5 or #6.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 01:53 PM) Why are these kind of troll posts acceptable when mine aren't? A post like this is worth nothing except to make me so mad that I want to respond. But I won't take the bait this time. We get it. You want us to lose every game. I want to win every game, so there's a difference of opinion. That's all. p.s. You didn't need Clippard's contract to lose. There are plenty of stiffs in the minors you could bring up to accomplish the same thing as Clippard BTW. Plenty of bodies who will lose you games on the cheap. Time to accept reality, Greg. Winning games at this point does no good. The White Sox are not making the 2017 playoffs.

Week day afternoon games suck. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 04:07 PM) I'd be thrilled if Moncada can turn into a Whit Merrifield type player .

We didn't. Don't worry.

Lol, I don't know if I would give up 2 of those guys. We just spent the last 8 months acquiring talent, and now you want to ship it out for an overpaid Stanton? Ain't gonna happen.

When is rock bottom of the rebuild: 2017 or 2018?

Next year, without a doubt. -
SEA trades Tyler O'Neill to STL for Marco Gonzales
ChiSox59 replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Gonzales was as high as a top 50 prospect a couple years back, and has been very good in AAA this year, but this seems strange. -
QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 10:30 PM) Delmonico played left tonight. Just sayin'. I believe he's played a good deal of LF this year.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 02:17 PM) What would you really expect in return for Yolmer? At best I think it would be a prayer on a "Coop'll fix 'em" type relief pitcher. Can't see it being anything significant in return. Sucks Luery got hurt for so long. He would have been the guy to cash in on in my opinion. I see no point in moving Yolmer if you don't get a couple pretty interesting lower level guys.

Eloy is a better prospect than Tucker, so it all worked out in the end.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 09:01 AM) We're going to have big problems if we can't find five starters between the following 12 guys: Giolito Lopez Fulmer Kopech Adams Guerrero Stephens Hansen Dunning Flores Clarkin Cease And we may only need four starters depending on if they view Rodon as a long-term piece. Seriously, though. We're in fabulous shape in the pitching department. Worst case scenario we can fill in the gaps with FAs. We'll certainly have plenty of $$ to do so.

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 09:38 PM) If Robertson fetches you a back end top 100, then you don't end up with Rutherford. I personally would rather have one top 25 or 50 than two top 100's near the end of the list. The combined value of Robertson and Kahnle got him. The Sox couldn't get him with just Kahnle and absolutely had no shot with just Robertson. Of course it would have been nice to get more but it's not a bad deal by any means. Perhaps. But I think Kahnle should get you Rutherford, who is probably more in the 60-75 range with his showing this year. The upside is definitely there. I don't hate this deal. Just think someone like Florial instead of Tito at the back would have been more appropriate.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 09:08 PM) Correa is not out for long enough to make that reasonable, especially when their replacement SS, Marwin Gonzalez, has massively outhit Abreu. Reasonable? Marwin Gonzalez is not a SS, though he can play there. They need a DH next year. Abreu is a huge upgrade on Beltran. There is definitely a fit there. Not saying the Astros are interested, but its not all that far fetched to think that they would be.
-
QUOTE (TRU @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 07:33 PM) But why? Frazier had no real value, Robertson is not a dominant closer and is still owed a lot of money. Kahnle is the only one of those guys that was worth anything, but he certainly wasn't worth 2 Top 100 guys. Most insider types felt Robertson could fetch a backend top 100 type. Add Florial or Sheffield to the deal (Sox kick in a few million as well) and it is much more palatable.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 08:57 PM) Gurriel has not been as good as Abreu this season at 1b for the Stros, but he hasn't been bad. 0.8 fWAR for Gurriel versus 1.6 fWAR for Abreu. And they have no DH spot open as Beltran is being paid for that job. Abreu would be an upgrade there, but they're not benching their expensive DH. They aren't giving up Tucker or Martes for those upgrades. They need starting pitching help, but they'll convince themselves they don't once Keuchel gets back. Then someone else will get hurt in a few weeks and they'll convince themselves they can get through that, and it'll bite them in the a** come playoff time. Bregman SS, Gurriel 3B, Abreu 1B
-
I'd definitely move him if there are strong offers. A little difficult to imagine there being a market that would pay the price, however. Would certainly improve the 17 and 18 tanking efforts. I'd love to get Reed from the Stros as the second piece. But can't even think who else we'd want with him. We aren't getting Tucker or Martes and don't have a ton of interest in other guys. Not sure I'd love a Fischer + Reed package, but that might be a realistic offer. Rockies are interesting.

Eat the majority of the ~6M he is due and see what the best offer is.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 09:27 AM) Disappointed that we didn't get a better prospect than Polo or an additional lottery ticket piece, but getting Rutherford was huge. I'd rather get a guy like him than 2 B prospects. I understand some of the angst here, but I do think the market is tougher on relievers this year (just look at the Nationals trade) for whatever reason. Yah, but I'd take Luzardo over anyone not named Rutherford in our deal. The trade is fine. I'm not super excited about it, but not mad either. Add Florial or Sheffield or even Tate and I like it a lot more. I feel like moving Kahnle in a deal without the other two should have returned more overall, but seems that wasn't the case.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 11:25 AM) The Eaton trade was perfect. They got three arms that all figure to have ML success, all with wide open potential to be all star caliber, for an injury prone good-not-great OF that despite some nice plays and good OBP still never OPS'd over .800 in a Sox uniform. The Quintana trade was really nice too. They settled on the Sale trade when they probably didn't need to. If Moncada is Robinson Cano nobody cares, though. Good post. I agree with most of it. But Adam Eaton is really really good; much better than a good OF. His contract makes him an incredible asset, injury be damned. But I agree - it was probably the best trade. That being said, I think the Sox expected more out of Basabe this year. There was a a lot of chatter about him being a top 50ish prospect by 2018. That obviously isn't going to happen.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 03:09 PM) Speculation that the White Sox could be getting Groome and Chavis from Boston, for Frazier and Kahnle is a pipe dream. As you all know, the young southpaw is Boston's #2 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, and #34 overall. Hahn has proven to be an able negotiator, but I think that is just not realistic. Ehhh. Its a steep ask, but Kahnle's inclusion is going to warrant a real return. I don't think its totally unrealistic, but definitely wouldn't be Boston's first choice.
