Still want Grandal gone?

8-18 GT: Tigers at Sox
Yes, would like for him to be able to repeat last year but I think he’s on that track.

Pitching is very hard. I have no long term concerns about Cease. I think he’ll be good for the Sox long term. The problem is that Cease is being over depended on. I think he’s a 4 or 5 starter on a good staff right now. I think that’s why people are frustrated with him, they’re expecting too 3 starter stuff and he’s not that yet. The Sox need another TOR arm to pair with Giolito and they need another bottom of the rotation arm who can eat innings and keep the Sox in games. Kuechel is a 3.

I want Daniel Norris on the Sox. Love the hockey player energy.

8-17 GT: Tigers at Sox
I’d feel a lot better about the Sox if they had a better manager and if they had a #2 and a #4/#5 starter.

8-17 GT: Tigers at Sox
That I disagree with but he could still be a multi inning reliever.

8-17 GT: Tigers at Sox
Yes, those happened in the minors though. Not saying that they wouldn’t have happened in the bigs but he shouldn’t have spent much time in the minors. His TJ came in 2017, he should’ve been up by then.

8-17 GT: Tigers at Sox
The Sox failed with Zack Burdi. He should’ve been in the big leagues right after they drafted him. He’s a reliever that had ML ready stuff, toying around in the minors was a waste of time. If I’m drafting a reliever in the first round, I’m drafting them because they can pitch for my bullpen today.

WHITE SOX SIGN Grandal 4/$73, Palka DFAd
Springer is over 30 and I believe Suarez turns 30 this year too.

More than that

WHITE SOX SIGN Grandal 4/$73, Palka DFAd
Wasn’t Yelich struggling horribly. Devers, Bellinger, Springer, Suarez and Acuna too? You guys probably would take McCann over them too

Sox just lost most embarrasing DH in 120 years of MLB
Poor decisions from Ricky. Its a DH so both catchers are going to play but why not start McCann for Giolito? Yes, Giolito needs to learn how to throw to Grandal. And while his first inning was 100% self inflected since he couldn’t throw strikes, why not pair Giolito with the guy he’s most comfortable with? Why is Abreu batting 3rd and 4th on a regular basis? He should be batting sixth every day and he shouldn’t even be playing against RHSP’s everyday.

8/12 Game Thread Sox@ Detroit finale noon start
Grandal is one of the best catchers in all of baseball, arguably the best. MLB Network had him as the #1 catcher going into the season. The Sox got a lot better because they signed him. I know the power hasn’t been there yet but the guy is a OBP machine. His OBP is at .354 right now, he’s been a victim of a lot of bad calls so it should be a lot higher. He’s also one of the best framers in the game. McCann, who’s a major win for the Sox pro scouting and PD, has earned a shot to be someone’s everyday catcher but I don’t think that’s what he is. I think he is a really good number two catcher who can also play at 1B and DH to keep him in the lineup. Yeah, he was an all star last year but look at his second half where he batted .226/.281/.413. He was certainly over extended in his role last year. The Sox can find another quality backup catcher.

I’d let McCann, EE, Cishek and Colomé all walk after the season. McCann will probably be a team’s number one catcher. I think EE is on the decline and want no part of that. Cishek has been getting rocked all year and I’ll try to find a better closer than Colomé. That clears $33M off the books.

Sox recent draft and development success
I was going to say that too. And has been pretty vocal about how he’s adjusting as he learns the analytics in spring training.

So who's the next manager?
If the Bulls aren't moving on from Boylen due to "financial constraints", the Sox will not be moving on from Renteria. He's done a good job at developing the players but he does a terrible job at putting them in positions to succeed. He's also very close-minded when it comes to some of the newer trends of the game. I was pissed at his reluctance to use an opener for guys like Lopez and Gio when they've been terrible in the first inning as a team. It's been said before but the decision to leave him in to face the Brewers a third time through the order was inexcusable. I also hate his decisions when it comes to the lineup. Abreu shouldn't be playing every game against RHSP's and when he does play against him, he shouldn't be batting third. So far he has failed to optimize the talent on the roster. The next manager on the Sox is someone who uses all the information available to optimize the talent on the roster, while still emphasizing player development. PD is super important and if the Dodgers and Yankees have made it a constant priority, so should the White Sox. I want someone like Kevin Cash or Bob Melvin to manage the Sox.

So who's the next manager?
Yes it was.
