5/19- Astros @ White Sox- 7:10 PM CT
QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ May 19, 2016 -> 05:26 PM) Sanchez going from hardly ever playing to batting 2nd makes so much sense. I agree w you. Rollins playing almost every day was giving them no production from the 2. Makes sense to try the opposite and give a guy who hardly plays a shot at it. I see Sanchez getting a couple of hits tonight.

Guillen became Sox manager while "blackout drunk"
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2016 -> 11:26 AM) In the back of my mind, I feel like Kenny really wanted to hire Cito Gaston, and that Guillen was a Reinsdorf thing. If Kenny hired Gaston, we might still be looking for our first WS Trophy. Luckily Ozzie got it before he imploded.

5/18 White Sox vs Astros
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 18, 2016 -> 08:10 AM) Let's hope that today is the day where the Sox get their sh!t together again. On a positive note, the Sox have had the lead or been tied in most of their recent games, so at least they aren't getting destroyed. Agree but style points are not counted in baseball.

5/17 - Astros @ White Sox Game Thread
QUOTE (flavum @ May 17, 2016 -> 06:03 PM) Agreed. It's not a must win or anything, but after a 2-4 week where the bullpen sucked, it's time to get back to winning and playing clean baseball- quality start, good defense, no bullpen bs. Just win. Houston is a bad team. So hopefully rodon dominates them and rights his funk.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 16, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) Are you really regretting not trading Quintana though? Our rotation would be a complete mess without him. No. I thought Rodon would make Q expendable especially if we were getting a young top notch catcher and CF and a 4-5 SP back. I also felt the Sox needed another SP because of the projected Johnson/Danks 4/5 combo. So in hindsight we would have improved drastically at catcher and CF but Q would have been a huge void w Rodon struggling.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 16, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) http://m.mlb.com/player/598265/jackie-bradley-jr He had an 832 OPS last year and is an excellent defender. In 2014, he was at 531 and his prospects were slightly dimmed...looked like the classic all field, no hit type. It was pretty obvious that Castillo and Hanley were the ones that were going to be out of luck in terms of maintaining their outfield positions. Red Sox also seemed to be satisfied with Holt. Castillo just wasn't hitting for enough power, isn't a very good defender and doesn't light up the board with lots of steals, either. Agree but that was solely based on his production in August. He hit .354 in August but then tailed off to .216 in Sept/Oct. based on his tailing off I was hoping the Red Sox would be willing to part w him since Betts had a great year. Oh well, too late now

Misc. Sox Quotes & Tweets
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 15, 2016 -> 10:06 AM) I think you mean the 2014-2015 offseason in terms of targeting Bradley, Jr. It was clear this year that they needed his defense and Betts' in the outfield, and that Hanley Ramirez and probably Rusney Castillo would be the odd men out (Ramirez was moved to 1B.) So they would have offered Castillo/catcher/Owens instead...or we would have gone after the same targets that were traded for Craig Kimbrel (or maybe not, since they were too far off in their development to impact the White Sox until 2017 at the earliest, but probably 2018). No last offseason. Bradley had a sub-par year last year again w the bat. Now he has exploded offensively. They had Young, Castillo, Betts, Holt and Bradley Jr as outfielders and already decided to move Ramirez once they signed Young. But they were desperate for starting pitching . They went out and paid a bundle for Price but they still were short and now are really scrambling for starting pitching. I wouldn't have done the Castillo package for Q and I didn't think the Red Sox would do a Betts package. Oh well. With Rodon struggling it may have best for White Sox in long run.

5/15- White Sox at Yankees
I consider Tuesday a big game because we need to see Rodon bounce back and have a good game. With Latos & #5 a concern, we need Rodon to start contributing like Sale and Q.

QUOTE (Dunt @ May 13, 2016 -> 11:11 AM) I wonder if Quintana+ could get it done? Too late. I posted several times last winter that we should move Q for Bradley Jr, Swihart or vazquez and Owens. Obviously at the time Bradley jr was coming off an off-season and Vazquez off Tommy John. I knew they had 5 outfielders and they desperately needed pitching. Now Bradley Jr is probably an untouchable for them. I thought Vazquez would be available rather than Swihart. But Vazquez won the starting spot and now Boston thinks Swihart is better as a left-fielder and have moved him there. I would be worried just trading for Swihart unless White Sox think he still is an ML catcher.

Early Trade Speculation
QUOTE (sammy esposito @ May 14, 2016 -> 01:31 PM) Rodon has some Cuban heritage, when the sox had el duque and Contreras, el duque told Contreras he needs to pitch like a Cuban. El duque wanted him to change arm angles and speeds . Contreras then began pitching better. Abreu is working with him on the arm angles but Jose will not be able to help him w his speed. Jose needs help with that himself.

GDT 5/14 Sox (24-12) vs. Yanks (14-20) at 12:05 CT
QUOTE (harkness @ May 14, 2016 -> 04:04 PM) I really don't get the "good basetball" game and we lost. I thought our batters today reminded me of the last few years. In the last 4 innings especially we swung it seemed like at every pitch well inside. It's like they had to catch a movie at 3 o clock or something. They didn't look mentally into it at all today. Actually many of the players have early dinner reservations at 5:00 due to the large crowds in NY for graduations this weekend.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 13, 2016 -> 10:42 PM) Its a win either way. Its either going to be awful for them or they are going to lose the best pitcher in the league. Not sure I agree. If you even overpay for a player and they lead your team to years of success, it is not awful. If Sale was due next year, I would want the Sox to retain him at all costs even if we had to overpay because I think he is the best pitcher in baseball. I would place the top 4-8 players in baseball in a category that their team needs to retain them as long as they are on the younger side of their careers. So I would give Sale the ranch but I wouldn't give it to Price or Lester for example.

The sooner we get an automated strike zone, the better
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 11, 2016 -> 12:05 PM) Just because baseball managed to survive doesn't mean you shouldn't continually strive to improve the game wherever you can. Let's use a T to hit the ball. No more balls and limited( fouls and misses) strikes. Eliminates the need for the pitcher so drastically increases team profits. No more hit batters so less injuries and drastically reduces Tommy John surgery.

Ventura will earn his extension the next 43 games
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2016 -> 05:25 PM) Running Jose Abreu in the 9th when Carlos Sanchez hasn't been playing much and is facing a 95-97 fastball pitcher who is hard to make consistent contact with. Not really. Opponents were hitting .353 against him this season in daytime appearances. I guess Robin played the % and lost.

5/11 - White Sox @ Rangers
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 11, 2016 -> 05:43 PM) Call me crazy, but I don't think Cleveland is that big of a threat to the Sox, especially without Carrasco. I agree and Detroit and KC are in the same boat. We are going to run away w the Central by All Start break.

Ventura will earn his extension the next 43 games
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2016 -> 05:28 PM) As I said, at Texas or Wrigley with the wind blowing out during the summer are two of the places I would make that same statement. So not arbitrary at all. And you have to look at the context, he was going right into the heart of the Rangers' line-up and their hottest hitters in Odor, Mazara and Beltre, compared to the bottom 3. Yes arbitrary. It is May and summer does not start until June 20th. So we all agree that after June 20th in Wrgley and Texas it is correct but not in May. Except in Tropicana Field where they don't turn the AC to high until June 20th and that causes the ball to carry more to right and right center.

The sooner we get an automated strike zone, the better
QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 11, 2016 -> 08:05 AM) Pitch framing catchers would object to this idea. The irony is that officials are most ingrained into baseball versus all of the sports. And yet baseball umpires would be the easiest officials to completely replace with automated technology. The only issues would be plays that would require human review. Why have any umpires??? Have cameras covering every base as well as the complete stadium and let it be totally umpired remotely.

The Rollins Conundrum
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 10, 2016 -> 01:27 PM) It means the game is played on the field. Not a computer print out. What is being done is working. There will be plenty of time for Saladino and Sanchez to play. In fact, I think Rollins was out of the line up 3 games in a row last week. Changing things up when things are going well is silly unless it's an obvious upgrade. Right now Saladino and Sanchez aren't upgrades over Rollins. Maybe at some point they will be. They will still get their shot. What is Saladino hitting? at the ML level I agree. I would say it probably makes sense to make sure Saladino is getting regular starts to insure he can play SS should an injury occur. So far the offense has been able to survive so having a weak bat or two in the lineup has not affected the ability to win games. Anderson is most likely the future at SS in the long term.

5/6 - Twins @ White Sox Game Thread
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 6, 2016 -> 03:12 PM) Should be good crowds all 3 games, especially tomorrow with the bobblehead. I bet it's over 25k tonight. It is a very sad commentary that the crowd is more for the bobblehead and not Chris Sale. White Sox fans should flock to see him every chance they get. Sale is special and those type of players don't come around that often.

Johnson Back Down
I am not a Johnson fan and agree with the move back down. But let's not overreact either. He was pitching against a top hitting team who the night before made Rodon look very average. Maybe Gonzalez will show better his next chance.

Sox attended Lincecum showcase day - Angels expected to sign him
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2016 -> 07:47 PM) Scot Gregor @scotgregor 27m27 minutes ago Hearing #WhiteSox VP Kenny Williams may or may not (wink) be at Tim Lincecum showcase tomorrow in Arizona Why not Hahn???

Cleveland outdrew us? Attendance down 13% so far
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 5, 2016 -> 04:55 PM) believe me, us mods and admins have been trying to send it to the glue factory for years Why??? This thread has over 10 pages so a lot of fans have an opinion on it. Isn't that the point of a message board?? Being a long time White Sox diehard, I do find it interesting. Since I live over 1,200 miles away I rarely see a Sox game live. So I am always wondering what happened to the White Sox fan base.

Rodon vs Nola
I like Rodon but Nola already has what is considered the best curve ball in baseball. That is quite a feat for a player that young. Obviously his control is and always was outstanding. Since we have( hopefully for a long time) 2 of the best left-handers in baseball I think in hindsight having a stud RH may have made for a better rotation. But that is a minor improvement and maybe Fulmer will be just as good as Nola.

CINCO DE MAYO GAME THREAD: BOS @ SOX
We should win this. Owens is probably headed back to minors after this start since Boston has 2 of their starters due to come off DL.
