  1. QUOTE (The Baconator @ Feb 4, 2015 -> 04:44 PM) FWIW, there was an article a few days ago about Greinke and the possibility/probability that he excersises his opt out clause after this season. He can opt out of his contract after this year and cash in for some serious money. The Dodgers know this and could look to sign Shields as a replacement now anticipating losing Greinke later. I think they will agree to re-negotiate Grenike's deal for more money.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 4, 2015 -> 01:44 PM) Comcast SportsNet ‏@CSNChicago 5h5 hours ago James Shields to the #WhiteSox? Ain’t happening, explains @CSNHayesrl="http://bit.ly/1F3Yccw"]http://bit.ly/1F3Yccw[/url] Can't really believe everything a Gm says. I still consider us a dark horse candidate. Maybe the smaller moves are Beachy and possibly guys like Joe Thatcher on minor league deals just to have stashed in the minors
  3. Dodgers don't have an open spot. Kershaw, Greinke, Ryu, McCarthy, and Anderson 1/10 mill deal)
  4. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Feb 1, 2015 -> 04:15 PM) Samardzija has remained consistent with his words in that he wants to hit FA. This is his one chance to fully cash in on that opportunity and why I did not like the idea of trading for him in the first place. That said, I still look forward to watching him pitch for the sox this upcoming season. Worst case scenario, they can get a compensation pick for him if he walks away. And we didn't give up a whole lot other than Semien in my eyes. You have to give value to get value.
  5. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 1, 2015 -> 04:46 PM) OK I get Condor is Sale and Shark is Samardzija and Quetzecoatl is Quintana is that Pterodactyl represents the Monster Rodan (Rodon) but the last 2 have me stumped. I'm going to guess the Great Dane represents Danish and Praying Mantis is Montas.
  6. I feel I'd rather sign him to an extension rather than giving out more money to the other 6-7 guys available next off-season along with giving away our potential first round draft pick. Sign guys now while it is supposedly a weaker draft class and draft great in 2016.
  7. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Feb 1, 2015 -> 11:27 AM) I don't think the Sox top 3 was assembled 'quietly' at all. Sale: not really since he was drafted first round. Samardzija: not really Quintana: pretty quiet in the sense two other teams released him and he turned into a gem with us If you're talking about how we acquired them that is.
  8. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 30, 2015 -> 01:04 PM) Not going to lie. It's pretty cool seeing JD Martin get signed to a Minor League deal. I come from a small desert town in southern California and JD pitched here his whole life until he was drafted by the Indians. In high school he was throwing 97 and had an extremely bright future ahead of him. Sadly he had two TJ surgeries and lost most of his velocity. In two seasons ('09-'10) he started 24 games for a bad Nationals team and went 6-9 4.32. He's kind of a Scott Carroll kind of guy. Won't blow you away with his stuff but could be decently effective as a LR. It's like a dream come true to see him even get a chance with the Sox. My small hometown would go nuts. Hopefully the Sox sign a similar guy who is a free agent as rotation depth soon
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 03:45 PM) I think Bonifacio and Viciedo may split the backup outfielder role with Bonifacio taking Eaton's off-days in center and Viciedo filling in for Melky and Avi. This is what I thought too. Especially when Hahn said they want another infielder (though i still think Bonifacio platoons at third but plugs in the outfield when Gillaspie or backup are in).
  10. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 09:17 AM) Isn't Nieto a switch hitter? Yes meaning he is able to hit from left side
  11. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 07:59 AM) if you are thinking that Nieto will be up in the majors, i don't see that happening. he really needs a full season of at bats and time behind the plate. my thinking is that the sox see potential and the sox want to fully develop Nieto. beyond him, does the sox really have another potential full time major league catcher in the minors?? I'm aware. I was answering the question of left handed hitters.
  12. I don't think they will add anyone. Saladino could win the backup job.
  13. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 06:47 AM) Which of the nominees are LH bats? I voted for Brantly for that reason alone. Kottaras, Brantly and Nieto (when it matters)
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 03:43 PM) Roch Kubatko @masnRoch · 2h 2 hours ago Told latest report has Jays ending negotiations for Duquette, an Os official said "That's what, the 4th time they've said that?" If things do stall, do you guys think that KW becomes an option again? The O's were asking for Jeff Hoffman, Max Pentecost, and Mitch Nay for Duquette. I don't think KW would require that compensation but what about something like Aaron Sanchez and D.J Davis? Yeah I'd let KW go for a prospect /young player or two
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) I think it will be Saladino over Garcia. Have to agree. Especially with Hahn saying that they are looking for a right handed hitting infielder.
  16. He should deal for Tank and then go to Toronto like next week haha that would really stick it to them
  17. You know, interest from us could scare them into paying 5/100 mill+. He may be worth it the first 2-3 years, but I feel it would also prevent them from extending Price or signing anyone next off season. I think 4/70-80 is my ceiling which won't get it done.
  18. Could the Sox get creative to add some more guaranteed money? Like a 4 year deal, 5th year option with a 5 mill buy out to guarantee an extra 5 mill on top of whatever he signs for for the 4 years.
  19. QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 01:18 host=) At that price I would sign Shields if Danks is traded or not. This. Wasn't it after the deadline last year when Hahn said he almost traded Danks but they couldn't agree to the players and amount of moving changing hands? I say move him for whoever will get you the most money off the books.
  20. QUOTE (lvjeremylv @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 08:01 PM) Well, assuming the Sox pick up both of Sale's option years in 2018 and 2019 (for $12.5M and $13.5M, respectively), he'll hit the free agency market when he's 30. Max Scherzer just got $210M, and he's 30. So provided he's healthy, there's still a huge, huge payday awaiting Mr Sale in the off-season before the 2020 season. Let's hope the Sox re-work something with him before that and make sure he never hits the open market. Agree. He hits the open market and he's gone. Especially with the price of free agency going up every year a discount would still be a big amount.
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 07:46 AM) for many yrs the sox picked a college player instead of a hs'er esp when the hs'er was the best on the board. so again it will be how the sox address their priority. Mitchell over Trout...I think I just threw up again.
  22. I kinda think they might move Castro to clear some more salary to sign Shields (or deal for Hamelsl/Zimmermann) whether it is White Sox or not
  23. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 08:57 AM) you have james " i cant win a big game to save my mothers life" shields as your #1? No I do not. Re-read the post please.
  24. Shields... Sale Samardzija Quintana Shields Danks Hope Danks is pitching well enough to move most of the money in May/June
