That’s the kind of thing that is likely to need refinement for both sides to agree. I’m certain both sides have models for a proposed international draft ready to go and simply need to be refined based on proposed assumptions. Should they have a couple of days to work through in a perfect world? Probably, but it doesn’t take weeks.

It does benefit the owners because it would probably a controlled bonus amount like the US draft. That's the current deal. Aren't they negotiating a new deal?

March 9, 20224 yr Yeah drafts are good, because they are fun. Wouldnt following international markets be more fun if we knew of these guys before a draft and then saw who are team picked, instead of getting a list of the top thirty players in January that all already have handshake agreements in place with the teams? Of course it would. We should also ban trades. Just make a really miserable sport to follow.
March 9, 20224 yr Good for the players like Ortiz. Use your clout to make sure the academy’s have a softer landing from the unwinding of this horrendous system that allowed them to profit on the backs of children. Won’t somebody please think of the buscones?
March 9, 20224 yr The players should accept the intl draft. In five years, they’ll be glad they did. Enough is enough with that gross system.

You can also agree in principal to the cba and the concept of the international draft and set parameters within to finalize the nitty gritty over the next few weeks.

Players are just using it as a chip. They really don't care they just want to act like they care about the draft. CBT, bonus pool, minimum salary are much bigger priorities. The MLBPA has typically had no issue bargaining away the rights of the players that are not yet in the union.

I expect the union to use this to get some more money for prearb pool and/or MLBs agreement that prearb pool money won't count against CBT and maybe a bit more cash for min salary players.
March 9, 20224 yr When is other Tatis sibling ready to turn 16 years old? The draft wouldn't be implemented until 2024. Would we be able to get him locked in the next two signing periods?

Ok, so they should just say, "Hey MLB, we really don't want an international draft. But if you raise the pre-arb pool to $55/$60 million, then you can keep the international draft." (Yes, I do realize it's not that simple) Edited March 9, 20224 yr by SoxBlanco

March 9, 20224 yr Sounds to me like Ortiz might have some personal connections or interests in the whole buscones business.

The Dodgers would be the the Yankees of the 20's and 30s winning all the time because they bought the other teams players. As long as you don't mind the NY, LA teams winning everything every year, you can have it. Talk about pure capitalism at its best or worst depending on your view.

March 9, 20224 yr How quickly will activity begin once a CBA is agreed to? Could we have transactions as soon as tonight or is that optimistic?
