I think the Sox are just trying to get to the point where Lynn is back and then Dallas is as good as gone. John Danks was cut way back when with way less IP and the same results.

*anyone* else likely fares better, even in an emergency start.  The roster spot is more valuable than he is.

We cannot afford to punt any more games be it with Keuchel or over resting our stars.  Stars in most contenders play practically every game.  That is why they get paid millions.  Fans pay to see the stars play not grabbing bench.
