March 20, 20233 yr Watched the video over and over again after seeing it live. I don't see how he could have hurt anything.
March 20, 20233 yr Yoan should be fine. It was an extremely mild collision. Dude probably rolls around on the ground when he stubs his toe at home.

I'm concerned that he'll try to compensate so he doesn't feel it as much when he swings, but then that will put too much strain on other muscles and cause another injury.

We really needed insight into area codes on the scoreboard from John Smoltz. My wife (who doesn't follow baseball) listens to games in the background while I'm watching and she appreciates Jason and Steve's attempts to fill dead space vs. John "I'm not a music guy" Smoltz.
March 20, 20233 yr Could've happened in spring training too. not a big deal, though, as we all know, these seem to be excuses for Moncada all the time. Hopefully the concussion thing wasn't real and can move on.

March 20, 20233 yr How about we have Moncada be our designed 3B fielder only and Burger can be the hitter for Moncada's spot in the lineup. Sounds like a great compromise to me
March 20, 20233 yr This is part of an elaborate plan to get out of more spring training time. He's a lazy genius.
March 20, 20233 yr I've always been a Moncada fan but I'm about tired of him now. He's too injury prone and streaky. I wouldn't be mad if they traded him.

Some people are like Abreu and Paulie who play through everything. Then you have dudes who look like they're in constant pain. But I just enjoy posters saying "he's not hurt" and then it coming back that he has a bruised rib. If you have a bruised rib, yeah, you're probably gonna be down for a minute to catch your breath.
March 20, 20233 yr If Moncada would've peeled away to avoid a collision, this board would be giving him flack for being lazy.

One thing people need to realize is that pain is a psychosocial construct for each individual. One part is true nocioception that is the actual nerve impulse that carries the signal to the central nervous system. The other part is how the unconscious deals with it. For example, someone who has been in a rear end car collision may unconsciously react differently when they see a car approaching fast in their rear view mirror. This state of heightened awareness usually leads to a more severe injury if another collision occurs. Long story short the greatest predictor for an injury is a previous injury. Not just because of tissue weakness but because of other psychosocial factors. He may be soft but there might be other factors involved from earlier in his career that we don't know about.
March 20, 20233 yr I was surprised to learn a week or so ago that Moncada was Cuba's starting third baseman. I can't believe that talent rich island couldn't come up with a better player.

March 20, 20233 yr Just watched the replay again like 9 times, I'm not sure Yoan ever made contact with the LF. Probably looking for an extended ST excuse to stay in warmer weather. Edited March 20, 20233 yr by JoeCredeYes typo
March 20, 20233 yr I got a bruised Playing hockey, trust me they hurt. It hurt just to breath but I wasnt out too long. Hope same w Yoan
March 20, 20233 yr Believe it or not certain player(s) complained about Roberto Clemente frequently acting like he was hurt. He did ok though.
