Pitching staff gives up 4 hits total, records 17 K's, loses.

PLEASE, tear this thing apart.

Honestly we still have potential.  If we sell we are going to be horrendous for a long time.  We are competing and losing.  We are not identifying the reasons why we just find ways to lose.  If we sell, it will just be intolerable baseball.

They don’t have potential.  This lineup is absolute trash.

That's how they ended up screwing up the 2016 season... and those guys at least started out 23-10.

Falsely believing you are competitive when you are clearly not.

7 games out now so if they keep dropping further they should sell even earlier than the trade deadline.

They are a bottom 3 team in the AL right now. They are a bottom 5 system in MLB and they have a bunch of salary on the books next year already, very little to spend. They have zero path to being better the next several years.

They can bury their heads in the sand and insist that things will be better, but that will just extend the pain.

Be more specific on what needs to be torn up. The pitching staff did the job as you noted

And they are playing with the bad defenders behind them.

The primary problem is they do not have starting players beyond Robert Jr. at the key defensive positions. They have five DHs (Burger, Vaughn, Sheets, Grandal, Eloy) starting regularly.

Yoan and Tim are good when healthy, though neither have been the past calendar year. Results will be very bad when both are gone, at least until Montgomery comes up and they can get a quality 3B.

I'd argue it is intolerable baseball right now.

How much could we get for Giolito now?

Last year the Cardinals acquired Quintana. He was super cheap financially and on a one year deal. It cost them a reliever (Oviedo) and their number 10 prospect, who would probably be number 5 in our system.

The Yankees gave up their number 5, Number 10, number 20, and number 21 prospects for Montas, but he had two years of control remaining.

The first is probably a closer comp for Giolito.

The two problems with the deadline is Jerry will likely favor salary relief over talent acquisition, and even if he did value talent acquisition we currently have Hahn making the decisions.

Guys the Sox are likely to sell (FAs in 2024 plus possibly Tim & Graveman):

  • $19.5M Lynn
  • $18.3M Grandal
  • $16.0M Graveman (2 yrs)
  • $12.5M Anderson
  • $12.0M Clevinger (includes mutual option)
  • $10.4M Giolito
  •   $9.0M Kelly

Potential Salary savings $28.6M this year, $26 million next year ($4M Clevinger, $8M Graveman, $14M Anderson).

Honestly, I’m completely ok with this. If you wanted to do this the right way, saving every cent possible now is important. If you can clear out Anderson and Eloys contracts now, do so. Holding onto them runs the risk that you will be stuck paying for next year when they’re hurt or struggling worse, and I don’t really care if they’re better next year because this team isn’t good enough for one or two people improving to do anything other than offset the things they lost to FA.

You have to make it known that TA is available to the top bidder. His head is so messed up right now with all the drama he has to have going on at home. I mean can you imagine the wrath he must be feeling right now from the wife? You know she is going to take him to the cleaners when she divorces his stupid a**. The guy threw away millions by sticking his **** in crazy. And now he is going to be paying child support on 3 kids for a long time.
