I know little about folks out there who would be good candidates.  I just hope it’s someone external and they’re given the keys.  If rumors of the team being sold soon, this is a good opportunity for JR to step back and let go of the puppet strings.

The official statement says “single decision maker” will be in place “by the end of the season.”  That means no one who is currently under contract. That means either JR is thinking an internal candidate, or someone who is currently freeish like Epstein, Click, or, God forbid, TLR.

So many possibilities. Not that they would be the hire, but who's advising Jerry?  Hawk?  Thome?  AJ?  Pat Fitzgerald?  Does Jerry know enough about the game to identify the gem we need?

He's the biggest problem!

I thought I remembered hearing Theo Epstein wanted to eventually be part of an ownership group, hire him as lord of baseball operations.  Then he can buy the team in a few years.

If they give the gig to Getz this is 2 steps forward, 2 steps back.

If I was in charge I'd make some phone calls to Theo, Dombrowski and others and ask them what the price to come to Chicago is. If it's too high, I'd pick their brains for who they think under them is ready for a promotion. I'd then give that person carte blanche to rework the entire org, from the guy watering the field to the baseball operations department.
