This current front office has not proven to me that they can draft, develop players, or trade for players competently.  And Getz has had terrible results so far in the latter two.  Maybe the Crochet deal will work out well for us, but last I saw, we don't have any other Garret Crochets sitting around to be traded for a decent haul.

"Well, the [name some other MLB team] went from 100+ losses to the playoffs in a couple of years, therefore so can we" is terrible game plan for a MLB franchise.

A ridiculous sample bias. Same argument as well player x stunk for 3 years but player y also stunk for three years and then turned into a superstar.  Sure, but how many other guys just kept sucking????????????

Then how are you also simultaneously able to project the playoffs in two years?

I mean it is easy to say "what if", what if Schultz and Smith are what they were this year?  What if the high level relievers continue to struggle? What if we continue to not develop OFs?  What if we continue to play in the shallow end of the FA pool.  Guess what, my what ifs are already happening and are realistic.

optimism! I'm not projecting it, I'm just hopeful we might do something in 2027. I'll change my point of view in the homer department if it doesn't happen. I'd be disappointed, but not necessarily surprised. I was excited about the new Bulls front office, but they proved quickly they were worse than the previous guys. Had to give em a shot though. Everything you said is fair. I don't know that it's already happening though, but it's def realistic. There's a wide range of outcomes. I think Braden will be a star, I wanted to draft him in the first place.

I think the org is doing things differently with the new front office. The AZ complex seems rejuvenated. There's a new DR complex coming. Hiring biomechanics people strikes me as smart. Lowly-rated minor leaguers have started to show something. I think the minor league system is pretty exciting, though lacking in star power outside of the Montys. I was writing a post about Montgomery in response to you the other day and forgot to hit post. Essentially, he could still bust if he never figures out how to hit a fastball. It was the same problem as in the minors and teams will expose him if he can't figure it out.

Think Bannister and Fuller were good hires, Venable was a big name hire though the jury is still out on him; and Getz seems like a guy who empowers his staff unlike Kenny. Kenny was great, brought a WS, I have a positive opinion of him, but it was time to move on. Same opinion with John Paxson. I thought Hahn and Gar were both pretty bad and it was a weird structure to have essentially two GMs competing against each other. I write "I think" a lot on this forum because I don't really know, it's just my perception.

I've been comparing the hire of Getz to the Mets hiring Stearns. The Mets are kinda floundering with a much bigger budget and a more appealing geography, I wonder what he would've done differently than Getz with our team. I think they're doing things that the previous front office did not do, hence my optimism. Will all the players turn out? Certainly not. I'm skeptical about free agency like you are.

He has no idea how to evaluate talent

It's been that way pre Getz and he wasn't exactly good in his previous position either.  He got the job because no one really wanted it and Jerry did not want to hear from possible GMs that he sucks as an owner.

I’ll take the under.  If they can get Schultz & Smith fixed and if they actually start spending some money, I could see be us a playoff threat in two or three years.

You hope pitchers avoid the TJ virus.

Most of this is just blue sky hopes and dreams, but this part...  Stearns and Getz are nothing alike.  Stearns made hay in a small market maximizing everything he touched in Milwaukee, and was stolen away by the Mets after an exhaustive search.  Getz failed upwards, had terrible results in his previous role, and was the result of no search at all.  They couldn't be more different.

Every team wanted to hire Stearns. Getz wouldnt be hired by any other mlb team.

The crazy comparisons to other GMs is wild.

Wow - 7 minutes of yelling and not even a pause to catch his breath!  The guy was totally spot-on.  Nothing he said was even close to being hyperbolic.   He worried about them promoting Getz to replace KW and RH, too.   He'd probably be right about having to say the same thing all over again in 2038 if Jerry weren't going to be 102 by then.

If he was that worked up in 2023, I hope he's been taking his blood pressure meds considering what has happened to this team since then.

Ironically, Milwaukee has had more success than the Mets with a fraction of the payroll since Stearns departed.

It's almost as if... one trait of a good leader/builder is that when they leave, things keep churning in the right direction because they build an infrastructure that's not reliant on one person being there.

Brewers have been a solid organization for two decades, even before Stearns. I thought that 2011 team was going to the World Series.

I blame this on Chris Getz and Rick Hahn as well.

Going to Sox games is apparently too dangerous...at least according to some news reporting.  Have been hearing this since the late 1970s as a fan.

"Chicago will be the next city that his administration targets for a federal crackdown on crime and suggested a longer and more intense campaign in the nation’s capital.

“We’ll straighten that one out, probably next, that will be our next one after this,” Trump said from the Oval Office. “I think Chicago will be our next and then we’ll help with New York.”

It's telling that two years in a row Sox don't really any juice late. It's like when I hire a new better scout in OOTP and he tells me all the guys I thought were 40/55 are now 30/35. We have no upper minors depth at all, which Getz, of course, had a large part in under the prior regime.

Really he gets next year imo. Time to s%*# or get off the pot. Min to keep going would be like 70 wins imo.
