Didn’t see this posted anywhere, but Shane Drohan is undergoing shoulder surgery.

I thought the article was that he had it and was doing rehab. Was there a subsequent article? The previous one said he had surgery to relieve a nerve compression.

No thread yet and didn’t feel like starting it, but Gavin Sheets is in RF today. Isn’t the idea of him playing OF dead by now?

I can see no threads for even real games as there were past year due to apathy and disgust.

Speaking of apathy and disgust, the Sox are 72 games better with Sheets out of the lineup than in it, despite the fact other RF candidates have also been been flawed (Eaton, Lamb, Vaughn, Colas, etc.).

Between 2021-2023, Sox are net -72 (Sheets’ TWTW score) worse when Gavin Sheets plays (127-172 -45) vs. when he doesn’t play (109-82 27).

This isn’t merely a coincidence, or a product of his usage (best relievers plus Billy Hamilton used to protect leads late). His poor fielding and hitting area net drag on team performance.

He should be stashed in Charlotte or DFA’d, or given away for even the flimsiest of returns. Sheets has no value on a MLB team.

This is a good move, it only took them how many years?

The Sox will have a mental performance coach, Cristian Guzman, in uniform and traveling with the team this season.

Director of Sports Performance Geoff Head said the Sox also have a full-time dietician for the first time, welcoming both upgrades in areas he said were past due.

“We had a mental skills department (in Kansas City),” manager Pedro Grifol said. “You know what? This is a very tough game and there is a lot of interference in this game, and you need resources and tools in your tool box to navigate 162 [games]. Whatever it takes.

“It’s our responsibility to provide these guys resources and tools that can help navigate whatever interference they’ve got going on.”

Guzman previously held mental health and performance positions with the Mariners and Mets.

Jeffrey Fishbein, in his 13th season as the Sox’ team psychologist, is also part of that support team.

Why would they insert an incorrect height of 5’ 9” in the article?

The Sox and Baseball Reference lists Fletcher at 5’ 6”.

There seems to be different listings on Fletcher’s height.  His college page and FanGraphs both have him at 5’9”.  I doubt he got shorter since college but maybe this listing was inaccurate to begin with.  This would be a nice question for a reporter to ask him but Sox media guys are too busy worshipping Getz and Grifol.

MLB.com has him listed at 5’6” and 195.  195 pounds would be pretty damn stout for 5’6” unless he was all muscle, so I tend to believe that he’s 5’9”.  Just for a comparison, Jose Altuve is listed at 5’6”, 166 pounds at MLB.com.
