October 30, 20241 yr Nice win for Chris Getz. Maybe the stuff about internal conflict on the hire was overblown, either way, good for him. He turned down the Mets and Steve Cohen, so I wonder how Getz sold him on this opportunity. Maybe he’s intrigued by having an opportunity to build something from the ground up
October 30, 20241 yr This is one of the very few decisions the Sox have made over the past five years that doesn’t seem like the wrong move the moment it is announced.
October 30, 20241 yr Author Not going to pretend like this is a good or bad hire. Ultimately it won’t matter in 2-3 years when they fire this dude for getting non competitive rosters handed to him year in and out.

October 30, 20241 yr Normally big news like this would keep me up reading the comments. Unfortunately, they've trained me to not care very much. I'll check in tomorrow for the general consensus.
October 30, 20241 yr He coached under Maddon, Cora, and Bochy. Pretty impressive resume. Did we actually make a good hire for once?
October 30, 20241 yr I don’t know much about him, other than the fact he is coming from the Rangers and that many people here seem to like this move. Other than the obvious reason of this not being an internal hire, what do you all like about him? EDIT: The post right above mine seems to be a solid reason. Edited October 30, 20241 yr by SoxBlanco
October 30, 20241 yr Very cool, remember watching him play basketball at Princeton. I’m just going to pretend that Theo is buying the team from JR, and this was his call.
October 30, 20241 yr Looked at his player page. His #1 similar player is Daryl Boston. Had to laugh. I like the hire, but what’s it really mean in the long run under a Reinsdorf ownership? Good luck, Will.
October 30, 20241 yr Rangers fans seem upset with this hire. Venable was supposed to take over for Bochy after he retires (again).
October 30, 20241 yr Given the situation, this is as good of a hire as Getz could have made. Hopefully they find a little bit of talent to give him to see what he can do.
October 30, 20241 yr Really good hire. He’s been around a lot of great baseball people, was Bochys right hand man in Texas allegedly. Players coach type personality who should get the most out of his guys. This hire has a chance to be a big hit. Rangers fans supposedly not happy to lose him as it’s rumored he was Bochys potential successor.

October 30, 20241 yr Love the hire. Princeton grad, great resume as he worked his way up the ladder, played in the bigs. If he isn’t good, at least there were no obvious red flags going in. Maybe he can will the Sox to 59 wins? Or is that an impossible dream?
October 30, 20241 yr Super pumped by this move. On paper, he’s about as interesting as they come for a first time manager hire. I do hope he keeps Sizemore as part of his staff.
