It's a narrative crushing hire.  They didn't hire the LaRussa guy, the cheap guy or the ex-Royal guy.  They hired the best available young manager who has turned down other manager jobs which means Ch

Well this is a nice surprise.

Fantastic hire.  Great work, Men.

Nice win for Chris Getz. Maybe the stuff about internal conflict on the hire was overblown, either way, good for him.

He turned down the Mets and Steve Cohen, so I wonder how Getz sold him on this opportunity. Maybe he’s intrigued by having an opportunity to build something from the ground up

This is one of the very few decisions the Sox have made over the past five years that doesn’t seem like the wrong move the moment it is announced.

Not going to pretend like this is a good or bad hire. Ultimately it won’t matter in 2-3 years when they fire this dude for getting non competitive rosters handed to him year in and out.

I mean this is a big win, I’m so curious about what he said to him. No idea if it works out

Wonder how long of a contract?

Normally big news like this would keep me up reading the comments. Unfortunately, they've trained me to not care very much. I'll check in tomorrow for the general consensus.

He coached under Maddon, Cora, and Bochy. Pretty impressive resume. Did we actually make a good hire for once?

I don’t know much about him, other than the fact he is coming from the Rangers and that many people here seem to like this move.

Other than the obvious reason of this not being an internal hire, what do you all like about him?

EDIT: The post right above mine seems to be a solid reason.

Very cool, remember watching him play basketball at Princeton.  I’m just going to pretend that Theo is buying the team from JR, and this was his call.

Looked at his player page. His #1 similar player is Daryl Boston. Had to laugh.

I like the hire, but what’s it really mean in the long run under a Reinsdorf ownership? Good luck, Will.

Also when is the last time Merkin broke news?

Rangers fans seem upset with this hire. Venable was supposed to take over for Bochy after he retires (again).

Given the situation, this is as good of a hire as Getz could have made. Hopefully they find a little bit of talent to give him to see what he can do.

Really good hire. He’s been around a lot of great baseball people, was Bochys right hand man in Texas allegedly. Players coach type personality who should get the most out of his guys. This hire has a chance to be a big hit.  Rangers fans supposedly not happy to lose him as it’s rumored he was Bochys potential successor.

Also was Special Assistant to Theo Epstein.

Nice hire. I hope Grady gets a prominent role on his staff.

Well, they didn't take the easy way out, so that's good.

Love the hire. Princeton grad, great resume as he worked his way up the ladder, played in the bigs. If he isn’t good, at least there were no obvious red flags going in. Maybe he can will the Sox to 59 wins? Or is that an impossible dream?

Super pumped by this move.  On paper, he’s about as interesting as they come for a first time manager hire.  I do hope he keeps Sizemore as part of his staff.
