It makes no logical sense. I’m hoping the Sox sign Imai for multiple reasons, one of which is to prove that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Yeah, regardless of what happens, this late night (actually early morning) wishy-washiness makes me think NBB is a sham like most of the others.

He’s not a sham.  Not sure what happened for him to change mind, but he’s very legit

He’s playing both sides so he can claim he was right regardless of how it plays out. Classic.

If he really was that legit, why would the front office be fine with him leaking negotiation updates in real time for the entire world to see? It doesn’t add up.

The dude literally flip-flopped in all of 10 minutes at almost 1 AM Central Time on New Year’s Eve/Day.  Does he have spyware on Getz’s phone?

It’s almost like he quickly realized that the tweet that he was responding to that @ChiSoxFanMike shared here earlier that said Imei’s signing was imminent was simply a repeat of the original Yahoo Japan news.

Or, he's just a dude with some connection who doesn't really want to be relied upon to this level. We'll see what's what.

Or he's a bit drunk and having a bit of fun.

I've never considered him to have direct connections with the FO. I've always figured he has connections with the money side of things or the internal budget. He's legit.

If that was the case, nobody is forcing him to share anything. I just don’t understand his angle. It’s like he wants attention but doesn’t want attention at the same time. Thankfully this Imai stuff will be over soon regardless so I can stop thinking about it. :)

Or he doesn't want attention and is messing around. Who knows? He's only got 921 followers. He could parlay this s%*# into much more if he wanted the attention.

That’s what I don’t get. Normally the foodie accounts and these other random “insiders” who throw stuff at the wall just want attention. He doesn’t seem to want that, yet keeps bringing attention to himself by posting. I need to go to bed.

How exactly is this guy getting real time updates from someone high up in the org. who is perfectly fine with him publicly sharing immediately on Twitter?

You know how easy it is to bribe the office cleaning lady to plant an amazon recording device yes?

Kay endorses the Imai pursuit (and gives Mune a Schwarber comp):

Some other notes from the full episode:

  • Directly cited Fedde's first year success here as a big consideration in signing, including the org having familiarity with the transition (back) to MLB from NBP. Mentioned the workload adjustment specifically (from ~110+ pitches once a week to a 5 day rotation).
  • He said he's talked to "all the pitching guys" both before and since signing, and feels they are on the same page and "had everything [he] was looking for"
  • Said adding a sinker is one of his major improvements he made, since it let him stay in the zone more in a league where guys don't chase/K as much.

I had already comped his upside to Schwarber and Thome before I saw that podcast. It took them long enough to get to the meat and potatoes portion of Kay's interview.

The floor however is what kept teams away from him as we know. I'm hopeful that having a livelier ball to hit than in Japan and a willingness to adjust will be helpful in producing a minmum of 30 HR.

This is a rollercoaster.

Only if you trust that everything you read has a certain amount of validity and that JR is suddenly willing to spend money above and beyond expected levels. Or that there is Ishbia involvement in player payroll. Or Pope Ball is real. Just call me a Doubting Thomas when it comes to the Sox signing Imai. Even if I am wrong Im not sure what part of the story I'll actually believe, JR, Ishbia's or Pope Ball.

Or maybe Ill just chalk it up to Getz Vision Quest.
