I’m not sure the Sox mis-managed Robert, there was something missing with the guy just like Moncada, Robert seemed like he was averse to making changes with his struggles with the bat, then there was his injury prone problem. I’ll miss his glove (IMO best Sox centerfielder ever) but really nothing else.

If this is someone Boston wants to dump, does that mean the prospect we get is better than the prospect we give away? Or does the fact that Boston might include money change things?

I forgot which poster shared that it would be someone lower in White Sox T30 and I think just outside of top 10 from Red Sox. Could be wrong though.

Well it doesn't really matter now but it was a top 15ish pitching prospect from Boston and a back end top 30 one from White Sox

My problem with Hays is he is a pretty good LF when he is healthy. But he was not healthy "enough" in 2024 and 2025. We will see how he looks in 2026

Another thought on teams over the salary cap using Hicks as an example.  Not sure what tax bracket Red Sox are in but potentially let's say the 100% bracket.  Hicks makes 12 but they send 5 with him, saving 7.  But look at the tax, if 100% he is actually costing them 24 so sending 5, they save 19.  Some teams probably don't care about the money but saving 19 could be reallocated to some decent players.  Like with the savings, they could have had Seranthony for nearly a wash.  (His 10 salary has tax value of 20 - 19 saved =1 difference)

I know they need a starter but I have a hard time believing the Sox would take on a bad contract like Hicks’ for a prospect but wouldn’t eat any of Roberts’ salary to improve the return.

In any case, this Hicks trade didn’t happen.

Or the market out there didn’t value it the same as this offer? So Sox decided better use of money. Mets didn’t seem to care about the cash.

He had a kidney infection that wasn't diagnosed until later that season. 

Could Hays and Benintendi be platooned in LF?  Something has to give with Benintendi and Sosa, I wouldn't mind seeing both moved.

Maybe Hendrix "Purple Haze" as his walk up music ?

I really believe the Sox want to keep Benintendi out of the outfield as much as possible this year.

I was not saying anything against him. Getz has said they want to keep him out of the outfield this year.

Benintendi is arguably the worst defensive outfielder since signing with the Sox.  He doesn’t have the offensive ability to overcome his current defensive shortcomings.  Hopefully him playing less is the field allows his legs to stay healthy and improves his overall game, because if not, he’s a DFA candidate by mid season.

Benni's  defense has one glaring fault - his lack of arm strength. That is never going to improve. In order to address that, first he has to stop lollipoping long throws trying to get a runner out at the plate. Instead hit the cut-off man who almost certainly has a better shot at a runner with a strong relay throw. Second, Benny should be taken out for a defensive replacement in close games, especially in late innings. I still like his LH swing and occasional power. And he has been a clutch hitter.

It's a lot more than his arm. His jumps are below average as well. I'm sure much of that can very well be attributed to his nagging injuries the past few years, but he's essentially useless in the field at this point in his career. We're honestly lucky he's been able to hit 20 HR's the last two years, or I'm not entirely sure he'd have any value on either side of the ball.

I think they would like to, but I'm not sure what kinds of sacrifices they're willing to make to do that. For instance, are they willing to take away at bats from Quero for this purpose?

No matter how you look at it, OF or DH, he will be taking away at bats for someone who needs them more. Hopefully, he is DFA before midseason.

This outfielder acquisition guy seems pretty good. I think I might buy mlb.com for first time in 3 seasons. I think we're a .500 team unless pitching is that important. Sox picked up some bodies who ought to be able to at least do as well as the Royals staff and they are projected to win the division. Why do I have a sneaky feeling we're going to get off to a 7-2 start in April? Gut feeling. Bet heavily on Sox early on me thinks.
