He's a solid 26th man. He'd be an awful regular in CF or at SS. On good teams guys can slot into roles, thankfully we have one this year.

I agree, thankfully he has been more productive with the bat lately because he was an automatic out. Unless he is part of a trade at the deadline I think he is here for the rest of the season. It will be interesting in 2027 if Roch gets called up, with Sam, Chase, and Acuna I think Acuna is odd man out.

No doubt, but Gonzalez only stays on the 26 man is if Mune is still hurt.

I wouldn’t be completely sure of that just yet. Up til the trade deadline Boston faces Tampa Baltimore Toronto Atlanta and then the Dodgers. They are currently 2 games under .500, they could absolutely get wiped out of contention by the time the deadline hits.

of course they could keep streaking but it’s hard to see them maintaining that for the next 2 1/2 months

Hammering Tampa in the first game of a DH today in Boston so that will make it 10 straight and I think 14 of 16.

Wouldn't mind the Red Sox knocking the Rays/Yankees down a peg or 2 so we get homefield advantage for the ALCS

To answer your question, he's been worth .6 fWAR. While running a 486 BABIP. Maybe you think he's going to start running 486 BABIP's for fun, but I have my doubts! If he was running a 293 BABIP (where his career has been so far), he'd be hitting around 230 over that period of time. That said, his xwOBA is at a much more respectable 343 over that period of time, but again it's small sample noise. He's very likely still a bad baseball player. He's also been a negative defender over that same period.
