  1. This--and other threads from anti-rebuild folks who are furious that a rebuilding team is bad--have really convinced me and gotten me thinking. I have even tried to apply the lessons of these threads to my own life. For example, in the offseason I decided to remodel my kitchen. I did this because it was old and bad, and I wanted one that was new and good. My contractor told me that I'd be "without a kitchen" for two months while they finished the job. I paid him, but must say I was really taken aback when I walked into my kitchen in early April to find all the appliances and most of the walls were gone! My original attitude about this was, "well, I will suffer through the pain of remodeling for the delayed gratification of a nicer kitchen down the road. After all, this was the plan all along." But reading the comments in these threads has inspired me to treat each day without a working kitchen as a new and independent outrage. I walk around the site each day screaming "where is the refrigerator?!!" and "This kitchen doesn't even have running water - kitchens should have running water!!" I mean, the name of the game is to have a kitchen, not a construction site, right? Pretty simple. My contractor tries to calm me down by saying things like "....I don't understand -- IT IS a construction site, because it's under construction" and "the refrigerator will arrive when the kitchen is done -- remember?" and "We talked about all this, didn't we? Wait, am I going crazy?" But honestly I think he's just an apologist. I'm thinking of firing him and having my big Viking stove delivered and plopped right in the middle of my former kitchen so I can admire it all day amid the sawdust. It's really the least that I deserve.

  2. All this rebuild is proving is that many Sox fans actually werent ready to really buy into a full rebuild. Its been less than 2 seasons and people already want prospects called up for instant gratification.

  3. I'd just like to go on record as saying "The Bess" is an incredible nickname and I think Eloy is good. Thank you.

  4. 31% in low A vs. 26% in AA. That's a bigger difference than just the 5 percentage points. Plus, it appears Collins has morphed into a different hitter since changing his stance in late April. He's struck out much less since that, and put up about a 1.200 OPS in that timeframe.

  5. Indeed they got a lot of guys swinging well. Really as bad as the big club is the farm has been that good. Other than the injuries (and knock on fucking wood) almost every single guy you'd like to see crush it has crushed it. Even the forgotten or overlooked guys like Scranton, Rose and hell even Covey have had moments where you could squint and see a useful 25 man piece. Awesome depth and a really high end top. Seems like they are in consideration for a #1 overall system now with Acuna graduated. Micker has moved into the top 100 (or should have), Rutherford is back in the top 100, Eloy has moved up a spot (at min) and Kopech is holding steady in the top 10. Hansen and Robert fall some, but not out of the top 50, or for Hansen top 75. Collins is solid top 75 again as well. Basabe is probably back into the 80-100 range, maybe higher on toolsy lists like Law's. I got excited typing all that just now. Hell yea.

  6. So incredibly fucking stupid. Hopefully someone like Netflix picks it up, that show hasn't slipped even one little bit.

  7. If they aren't ready to be here, it doesn't do them any good to be here.

  8. The point is that there's no reason to bring the stove into a mess of a kitchen. Having the stove there doesn't help the kitchen get done quicker.

  14. I'm on the Madrigal/Bohm train. I'm not worried about the amount of pitching talent in the system. These assets are fungible. All else equal, high-hit tool position players are the safest picks, and can be traded for mid-rotation arms later if it comes to that.

  15. The justification to not call up Eloy is to get 1 more year of control when the Sox are good as compared to losing 1 year of control when the Sox are bad.

  16. And if the White Sox call up Eloy and he struggles, some of the same people who are dying to see him will be crying about the Sox always rushing guys. There is no need.

  17. It certainly reduced his willingness to re-up with the Cubs after his arbitration years end.

  18. Kris Bryant had some pretty good minor league stats (.325/.438 /.661/1.098) and the Cubs kept him down until the following year to gain 1 extra year of control. That seemed to really hurt his development as a player.

  19. .326/.378/.526 Those were Gordon Beckham's splits in AA and AAA in 196 PA in 2009 as an older player than Eloy. People still complain he was rushed. There is no reason to rush Eloy.

  20. https://theathletic.com/349056/2018/05/10/how-is-the-eloy-jimenez-deal-working-out-for-the-white-sox-quite-well-thanks/ Article just posted to the Athletic, mostly on Eloy, but based off how the Q trade is working out so far. Among other things, Eloy says about Birmingham : He’s too good for Double-A, a level Jiménez says is not easy, but also “is not challenging me.”

  21. Our draft coverage at FutureSox started yesterday with a primer, which was meant to educate on the draft process and the Sox' part in it. Now we have the Cheat Sheet from Brian (Rabbit), which looks specifically at who the White Sox might select and why. It includes mentions and descriptions for about a dozen potential first round candidates. Lots of detail here!

  22. What about Tim Anderson? Why not move him to catcher and then take a SS?

  23. You're so sensitive. The career rates are similar in ERA, similar in K/BB, similar in WHIP, similar in HR/9, similar in K/9. The fact is Guerrero has had 308.2 innings at AA in a pitchers park and has done nothing. Clarkin has just 31.2 and has also done nothing. The major difference is that the White Sox who know a whole lot more about their players and the industry think that Clarkin is SIGNIFICANTLY more valuable. No bullshit here other than the capitalization of SIGNIFICANTLY because I love to trigger forum fairies. Just for extra credit how about you look at Kenny's great success in that 2012 draft where Guerrero was picked in the 15th round.

  24. Also just a quick note, the rotation actually just refers to the 5 starting pitchers. Starters and rotation is used interchangeably. Starters only pitch once every 5 days. Rarely do they ever pitch all 9 innings but they handle the majority of the game (unless they're getting killed then they get pulled early). Pitch counts are very important here. If a starter has thrown 100 pitches in 1 game, they will likely be pulled soon. The rest of the pitchers make up the bullpen (relievers). They come in and pitch after the starters. Theres no 5 day period for these guys. They are mostly available for every game. But that also limits them to pitch much less per game. Most relievers only go a maximum of 1 inning. A lot of left handed relievers tend to go even less than 1 inning as they are considered specialists put in to get left handed batters out and then leave. Fry may end up as one of these specialists, although he just joined the team from the minor leagues so it's hard to say what his role will be (and with how bad the Sox bullpen is they probably dont have a luxury of using specialists). The bullpen guy who pitches last when the team is winning is called the closer. Typically it's the best reliever you have. That's Jones, the guy who they put in today. He just blew it. On that note it cannot be understated how bad the White Sox bullpen is. I dont know how much of this you knew or didnt know and there are exceptions to everything I said here, but hopefully that info helps. I also want to reiterate what they said about the minor league system above. It's VERY unique to the sport of baseball and very popular to follow in it's own right. To give you an idea, the Sox have a minor league player thats already been paid out 30 million dollars to (more than most all of the White Sox major league roster has made) and yet the highest league hes played in is the ~7th highest league there is. Seems insane on the surface but it shows what a good minor league system can do for you down the line.

  25. Even if they get a top 5 pick, I have zero confidence they will get it right at this point. Their track record is abysmal with selecting offensive talent with this most recent Burger injury. All of our offensive talent was obtained through trades (or signings if you count Robert), which is great. Just no confidence our staff can pick and develop offense at this point. TA is really the only respectable offensive selection they’ve had, and jury still somewhat out on him. Will be (pleasantly) surprised if Collins turns out to be anything other than average, which isn’t saying much given our the expectations the FO set. But Collins could very well just bust too now, but I’ll let this year play out. Not sure where Sheets is at. But if you start thinking about the Hawkins, Mitchell’s, etc. the Sox have drafted in the past, this is downright brutal. Need to get this one coming up right - but am losing hope they can, which is frustrating when you see teams like Cubs, Houston, Colorado get it right with ease.

  26. Yeah, Bazok, in pro baseball teams have small “franchises” in their organization (minor leagues aka farm system) where developing young guys or older, not so good players play. Fortunately the Sox farm system is absolutely loaded. If all goes to plan, the big league team will be awesome in 1-2 years.

  27. In baseball, you've got pitchers with certain roles. Most teams carry 11-13 pitchers. 5 will be your starters. Usually your best reliever will be your closer, and its pretty much their gig in the 9th inning if the game is within 3 runs. Nate is our most talented reliever, and he should have been able to handle that situation.

  29. Be patient with the team right now, they're waiting on waves of new talent over the next couple of seasons to be competitive. This team is going to struggle and have a few losses like today's.

  32. Looking at these birth dates, of our top 5 outfield prospects, should reinforce the notion of Eloy moving to 1ST Base: Basabe 8/96 Adolfo 9/96 Jimenez 11/96 Rutherford 5/97 Robert 8/97 The likelihood is very high that all 5 of these kids are going to be Major League regulars, if not stars. It would really help if one of them could play another position. Eloy does not possess good tools to play anywhere in the outfield. 3 of those guys are potential centerfielders, the best defensively being Robert and Basabe. Adolfo's average speed, and elite arm, play perfectly in RF. I don't know where they are going to find a spot for Rutherford, but he appears to be justifying the original hype. It's a shame that one of them couldn't play 3RD. In any case, let's hope that they all continue to blossom and that there will be room for all of them, on that championship team, in the next decade.

  33. I'd encourage everybody to use the post ratings more. They are limited but they do help foster community. Again, I'd change them to "Thanks, Agree, Disagree, and LOL". edit: Thanks for the "confused" icon, which is a really useless icon imo because it tells you nothing about the OP or WHY the person reading is confused. If you really want to have a negative rating like that just use "dumb" so everybody is clear. The ratings should basically just be used as shortcuts to typing out a post. I spend way too much time at work on various forums. This one is way towards the bottom (even with the upgrade) as far as user interaction and redundant posts (that exist because there is no "disagree or agree" button). There are ALOT of cases where a simple "agree" or "disagree" button would save a lot of wasted scrolling. The "like" is 80% of the time just an "agree". If you want to keep "like" than just realize people are going to use it as "agree". I do it rather than reply with "+1" or "I agree". It's a shortcut. Again, my opinion only, but there really needs to be an "agree" rating. That's the one I think would help the board the most, especially on mobile.
