  1. As we found less than 50% of the population was responsible for speeding up our demise. Hes the President of the United States, we shouldnt be making excuses for him. We claim we are the best health, best science and all that, and what has it gotten us so far when we really needed it? We have a President floating ideas that are so stupid, that we cant hold him accountable because they are so dumb that no one should even consider them? That is exactly what is wrong with our country right now. That some people still think we need to make excuses for the person who is supposed to be running our country. Im an optimistic person, but when I look at my kids, I wonder if on my watch our world got changed for the worse. I did my little part, I argued as hard as I could, but its still on my damn watch that this shit went down. Its unbearable that as I a normal person take more responsibility for this calamity than the President. And Im sorry if you think its cute to argue about it, but what is happening right now isnt cute, its not funny, its possibly the worst disaster in the history of the US. And our govt still has no sustainable plan.

  2. Im sorry Im not going to give a pass to the person who is in charge of a country who should be at the forefront of science and finding a way to resolve this crisis. The President is providing a briefing every day, isnt the point of the briefing that he is supposed to be providing the US valuable information on how to get through this? We should be able to trust/listen to the President. Its absurd that we are living in a society where we should tune out the President and not hold him accountable for the statements that he makes. It gives no credence to his statements. Absolutely none.

  3. The Kavanaugh stuff is not really comparable since that was crammed into a couple week period between his nomination and confirmation, and the election is 6 months away. also, Kavanaughs accuser came forward and testified in front of the entire nation. Not quite the same level right now.

  4. People arguing with you online shouldn't drive you away. Policy and actions should. If someone being confrontational with you over a candidate gives you the sads and makes you want to vote for a different candidate, you really aren't voting seriously imo

  5. Imo Trump should offer himself up as a test subject for all these miracle cures he keeps pushing. Just have him inject Lysol straight into his lungs in the briefing today, yolo

  6. He's the President of the United States. His official public statements should be treated as non-credible ramblings that are inherently dangerous every time they are heard? I'm pretty sure you just stretched so far that you accidentally gave a complete justification for the 25th amendment being invoked.

  7. Let's try to keep this topic on coronavirus, even semi-tangentially. This isn't The Buster Thread. Discussing how Biden or Trump would handle the crisis differently is fine. Biden's options for VP, outside of Whitmer, ultimately are not.

  8. If those voters watched the press conference yesterday and still vote in a way that enables Trump to hold onto power...then NOTHING will convince them. It means they would essentially prefer to re-elect a President with, what, 27-30 allegations from various women, numerous payoffs, obvious and incontrovertible connections with Epstein, etc. If Warren is named as VP and the Sanders agenda gets highlighted as much as possible without a national convention...things will smooth out simply because the House of Representatives and Senate wouldn’t get anything significant accomplished during another four years of Trump. It also means Ivanka Trump running in 2024 against Nikki Haley and Mike Pence. Update: US Pork supply now down 24% and beef 10%.

  9. We were nearly at the point of putting my grandmother with alzheimers in assisted living this year and decided to give them more time per my grandfather. So far I've been lucky with immediate family, because I don't think my dad could survive this. He's near 70 with diabetes and heart disease. It's one of those things where with all of them you are prepared for what's coming for all of them. But I get so sad reading from the families who've had to deal with death during this time. The lack of funeral, the inability to be there. So important to have some feeling of closure and being there at the end for those relationships and just so terrible for them. Basically just talking through the idea that when we deal with the statistics of this, if my dad passed away from it it would be one of those "oh well it's only affecting people with multiple conditions". But dealing with it would be traumatic. Terrible times.

  10. For all his bluster, Trump isn't a decisive leader. He often goes with what the last person tells him or he takes his hints from Fox News. This is one situation he can't con his way out of. He can't keep lying or saying some stupid thing his base wants to grab onto. Tens of thousands of Americans are dying and falling back on his campaigning is no solution. It depresses me that Biden is our other choice. He has sexual allegations hanging over his head, and the guy says some weird things himself. But Donald Trump doesn't belong in the White House. He never did. It is amazing that so many thought he had real solutions to real problems. This isn't a reality show. Performing to get ratings is not going to help.

  11. No one is missing your point, we are all just completely aghast that you are making the point in the first place. The fact that this has to be said, shows that he is completely unfit to be the assistant to my secretary.

  12. So you are trying to argue that people shouldn't be stupid enough to listen to the President. Makes sense to me. Too bad 45% of voters are in the cult and not capable.

  14. Absolutely agree. I expect they will trade into this draft with one more pick at some point. Probably Pace will dangle some pick from next year for a 3rd, 4th or 5th (or to move up). With him having a few compensatory picks expected, my presumption is he will leverage part of that to buy one more now. Man I really wish this team still had a 3rd/4th round pick. Just pains me what they gave up for Montgomery and Miller...would have been nice, especially knowing how deep this draft was at wideout (and to be frank, they could have gotten a better back than Montgomery and never should have had to move up to get him). I don't mind Montgomery but not one thing special about him (and I said those exact same things last year when they took them). That said, I complain about Pace more than most here and I absolutely was 100% content with both guys they acquired. Both were fringe 1st round guys and have ability to be good starters. I think pace would have maybe made a deal...but just not a lot of dealing in this draft (given the remote setup). I think they wanted Kmet pretty badly knowing how key TE is/was to the Bears system. And at least we didn't go with some DII TE. We took a guy who comes from a school that has produced some solid TE's.

  16. They could have 20 on the roster, if they are all crap, it doesn't matter. And to be frank, outside of Graham (who is mediocre)...they all STINK. I really do think the biggest reason this team and Mitch took a step back was the complete JUNK they got out of TE. No team was even close to as bad as the Bears a TE last year.
    1 point
  17. Nagy offense goes through the TE. Ertz and Kelce. I'm not surprised.
    1 point
  18. I can't complain about this pick. Critical position in the Bears offense and Graham is just a short-term need. They need to massively upgrade. I just hope for once Pace is right on evaluating TE.

  19. Allen had a 8.6 WAR in 1972 for the Sox...but I think the same for him and Belle...they only had a few years with the White Sox so can you really consider them part of your ALL TIME team? I mention Gossage who had an amazing year for the Sox as a reliever but most of his greatness was on another team...can you really include him on our team's all time list? If you went with greatest seasons ever you'd sure have Dick Allen on the team (and Wilbur Wood...who had 22.5 WAR over two year 71-72 seasons).
    1 point
  20. What is realistic about an all-time team? Walsh dramatically out pitched Cy Young in 1908. He had one of the greatest seasons ever by any player. He pitched 460 innings with a WHIP of .86. I mean just because it's a long time ago doesn't mean we should ignore him as part of our team's history. Most of Ty Cobb's greatness was more than 100 years ago. Should Detroit not have him as part of their ALL TIME team because it was really just too long ago?

  21. Wait...are you being reasonable? This is SOXTALK...you make a claim and then defend it to the death in the face of all evidence. My dad loved Billy Pierce too he's not a bad choice...if I said you were an idiot for liking Scarlett Johansonn over Natalie Portman...I could support your idiocy with facts but it's really just a matter of taste. I love a bullpen of Foulke followed by Gossage with Thornton as your lefty specialist. Foulke was amazing.

  22. At least as far as Illinois goes, the fact that the testing numbers have gone up so much lately and are getting a lot closer to goal, combined with the effective curve-flattening to avoid overwhelming the health system, and increased capacity added, plus the beginnings of a decent tracing system in the state... I am feeling like I can see a faint light at the end of the tunnel for the first time. Not nearly there yet, but seems like the progress is really where it should be. If the testing can continue building (which I think it will), and we can get some more effective treatments in place for before the vaccine is out there, I think we can see Illinois at least considering a broader re-opening in the June and July period (bit by bit, not all at once of course). There would have to be a "new normal" on some behaviors for people, but economically and in terms of overall virus control, there are decent signs. The potential wrench in the works is just how much bounce-back might occur from the idiotic governors of those 8 to 10 states (which includes Iowa and Missouri right next door) who are hell-bent on opening up too early and/or never closed down enough (have you see Iowa's curve lately?). That's my biggest current worry.

  24. Let’s just put it this way. Dr. Birx was (visibly uncomfortable yesterday, for perhaps the first time in public)...and even felt strongly enough about it that the official WH Coronavirus briefing transcript was changed to reflect she was NOT recommending any of Trump’s suggestions this morning. The first time I heard the audio, it seemed like she was stumbling and in shock, then she quickly segued into “as a fever treatment” (meaning the extreme heat)...difficult to catch, so the original notes coming out made it seem like she was neutral on the topic or even okay with Trump’s suggestions. That Birx reaction video (there was a similar one from Fauci weeks ago, putting hand over face in dismay) has been getting nonstop play all around the world, which won’t make her boss very happy, at all. https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/24/politics/rudy-giuliani-donald-trump-laura-ingraham-coronavirus/index.html Then there’s Rudy Giuliani, who makes Trump look like Neil Degrasse Tyson almost.

  25. I'd say it's equal. Trump saying it on purpose is reckless and stupid, as is typically with his incoherent ramblings. Biden saying it accidentally due to his deteriorating state of mind is arguably more worrisome out of a president. I wouldn't blame either if somebody read those comments as idiotically concluded "I should shoot up with bleach right now".

  26. In reality, it should be a deal breaker. But welcome to 2020. On your right you will see President Trump, on your left Bill Clinton. Look across the street at the Supreme Court and say high to Justice's Kavanaugh and Thomas. No idea why that isn't a deal breaker, but it isn't. In the reality we live, these are our choices. In this reality, all of the things that get leveled at Biden are things that the President has against him in multiples.
    1 point
  27. Yes. But take a look at where we are right now. We have the choice between 2 people with credible allegations against them. 1 of whom didn't react to warnings of a pandemic and still, 6 weeks into this thing, has adamantly refused to organize anything resembling a plan. Everyone who said "sure he's a racist but her emails" and either voted for Trump or did some sort of a protest vote last time voted for where we are right now, an economic and societal disaster. We just didn't know what kind. Ready for the next one?

  28. ,Biden may be a stumblebumb but he has been that way a long time. He is in better physical health and doesn't say crazy things like Trump. I don't see where Trump has an advantage in a debate. There may not be one. Or we could just go with Beavis v Butthead.

  30. The young are absolutely carrying it and still dying, just at lower rates. They make great transmitters, as no one is spending tests on them. A group of UT Austin students went to Mexico on spring break and 50 tested positive when they got back. Tests are so rare that 20 year olds usually aren’t the sickest so they don’t get them. one of the interesting things I’ve seen in the past week is that even if it isn’t putting them in the hospital, it seems like the virus damages a bunch of other systems like kidneys and liver and circulatory system. So even the people who have few to no symptoms could have internal damage that takes years off their life down the road.

  31. Nobody is “embracing.” It’s all about winning an election, pure pragmatism. Should we question every Christian who voted for Trump after two divorces and all his affairs that he bragged about on Howard Stern or with Billy Bush? They were simply voting on abortion rights and tax policy/government deregulation. You really think they believed for a minute he was even familiar with the Bible?

  32. I wouldn’t be so sure. COVID has certainly and understandably dominated the news, but I’ve seen a lot of talk about non-voting or third party votes from progressives/democratic socialists, especially since the Tara Reade allegations.

  33. Greg, I do share a portion of the blame. Perhaps if I had done more I could have convinced more people to vote against Trump. I knew the danger that he posed, but I tried to be optimistic that the institutions of the US were strong enough to check the President. That at the worst case scenario we would have 4 years of chaos that resulted in stagnation. I was wrong. With competent leadership we wouldnt be here. We should be the SK and Germany of the world, but instead I am having to go online and try and refresh websites to try and obtain certain supplies that are scarce. If you vote for Trump youre not a moderate. History will make it very clear, if anything, we were not critical enough of Trump for the previous 3 years.

  34. Why does every Trump supporter default to this when Trump's actions are brought up? I mean Trump talked about having sex with his daughter, and has settled numerous serious sexual allegations, in addition to all of the charges that have been leveled against him. He has encouraged people in inject Lysol into their system. If Biden is senile, Trump is mentally ill.

  35. Have you listened to the guy talk? Have you seen the videos of him sniffing and groping children/women? It's going to be an absolute bloodbath when he tries to debate Trump. Democrats will be less likely to vote for a guy with sexual assault/rape allegations. Not to mention he can barely string sentences together. Biden is toast.

  36. I don’t believe in the notion that these countries are creating biological warfare, they would seem to be more about developing nuclear weapons for their arsenals. Have you tried shopping at different stores in your area to get what you need? What about hardware stores for paper products? Or ordering toilet paper or paper towels online? Lastly, I can understand missing your church and all that comes with it, but are you staying in touch with people you worship with or your pastor? Are the online services from related faiths helping?

  39. Obviously. It was a dumb ass string of comments and didn't make sense. This is nothing new. You seem to be missing my point, so let me try to be crystal clear this time. If you deduce that Trump is advising you to shoot up with bleach and you do so, you are a fucking moron and I have zero sympathy. The sad part is this is something I can easily see Joe Biden saying on accident. The poor guy can barely out coherent sentences together sometimes. It's going to be 4 more years of Trump and this nonsense because Joe freaking Biden managed to win the primary.

This is why people support Trump! Politics in 2020 everybody.

  43. Nope. But I think it was over the top when people blamed him for those idiots drinking coy pond cleaner. There are plenty of things to blame him for and hold him accountable for. Blaming him for everything and anything just gives credence to his "fake news" ramblings and makes his supporters believe it even more. If somebody injected themselves with bleach, it would be absurd to blame Trump.

  45. Reasonable post. I flip flop as I read different stuff. As I read your post and read about "clustering" occurring immediately at the few churches that have opened and some of the plants where people have to work close together, I shift to the "no way we'll ever have sports with crowds again." Maybe a couple hundred rich guys and gals (boosters) and their families will sit in the upper deck spread out during college events. Maybe some rich corporations will sit in the upper deck spread out at baseball and NFL games; a few hundred. But the way people are seated so close to each other? How can we ever have that again? I do see the athletes risking this and playing with no crowds in pro sports. College is tricky because if the campuses are closed to students (and again, how can we ever have kids go to classes again?) you can't have sports if campus is closed to all other students. It would take elimination of the NCAA and just having paid to play college aged "pros" wear the college jerseys and compete. That said: I can't see money being the holdup here; owners are going to have to pay full salaries.
