  1. Was it just me or were the Rays holding the runner at first with the game tied and men on First and Third and 2 outs yesterday in the 9th? Obviously that runner doesn't matter... I just want to point out that other teams do dumb stuff too.
  2. Two observations... Andrew Benintendi's statcast numbers are horrible. Yet he's still got a 700 OPS. The optimist in me says his batted ball stats will start returning to his career averages and his numbers will improve alongside. The pessimist in me says his stats could fall off a table if he doesn't start hitting the ball with a bit more oomph. Luis Robert has got to be the biggest disappointment this season. At the start of the season he looked like he had finally put it together. He was a top hitter in the league, and was making it look easy. And the glove was elite. Now it seems like he couldn't hit the ball without a paddle. Grifol is stuck in a tough spot. To succeed we need our best hitter getting the most at-bats. Hence hitting first or second. But he's a total drain right now. Hopefully his near homerun yesterday is a sign of things to come.
  3. Sometimes it's a good thing that Blue Jays games are blacked out in Canada.
  4. As long as I've been on Soxtalk, people have been under this strange delusion that if only the players "gave more effort" or "had passion" (or some similar term) they would be better. Example A: Sox hitter grounds out weakly to the second basemen... Soxtalk Member 1: What a terrible effort. Soxtalk Member 2: What a lazy swing... Sometimes you are just in a slump. And sometimes you just aren't very good... I have a hard time believing that if only we had more passion we would be contenders. Fundamentally the problem is we give up too many walks, and don't take enough ourselves. I don't think passion and effort changes that in a major way.
  5. Pedro is not the problem.
  6. If you were wondering we are 29th in walks allowed, and 25th in walks taken. That is cumulative, not as a percentage of PAs.
  7. I've been a defender for a long time. But man... this dude...
  8. I know it's frustrating, but literally the other team we are playing tonight has a similar amount of injured key players.
  9. I only remember him making one error yesterday.
  10. I don`t mind Romy subbing in for Elvis now and again. But there`s really nothing from the statistics to suggest Romy would be better than Andrus. Do we think Andrus gives a defensive plus over Romy? Maybe it's hard to tell since Elvis is out of position.
  11. Good point about launch angle, but presumably there is only so much you can do against someone like Framber Valdez. And that one foul ball that Moncada bombed had a good LA.
  12. Kinda wrong thread, but since we're on the Astros, I really enjoyed The Edge: Houston Astros. I believe it is based on the Astroball book.
  13. My fantasy sports app told me that Merkin reported that Vaughn would play in a Minor League spring training game tomorrow.
  14. He was actually much better last year from the right side than the left side. Historically it's the opposite for him. Hopefully his struggles from the left side had to do with the oblique strain last year.
  15. FYI The guy that keeps tweeting about Declan Cronin - Rylan Domingues - works for Tread Athletics. Declan Cronin seems to be a client of Tread Athletics. Maybe we're not getting the most unbiased takes here.
  16. Has there been any additional reporting yet on what the White Sox knew at the time of signing? All I have seen is that when the Sox signed him the MLB was already investigating, but the Sox assert that they didn't know this.
  17. Hot-dogging? I'm not sure the players on our team are really known for that. Maybe you can make the case with Tim Anderson (I would not), but that really doesn't seem to be a major issue with this team. If anything, a little bit of hot dogging would be a sign that this team has some friggin' life.
  18. Best Sox meme ever. Please keep posting it everytime Yoan does something good.
  19. The 10 k is only for individuals or families under a certain income level though right? I think 125k and 250k. It's really only the quite wealthy who won't get the relief. Also, important to note that they are extending the moratorium to Dec. 31, but it is the final extension.
  20. Should have been hit out? That's pretty high expectations for anyone to meet. And Neris is pretty good. According to Savant the pitch was more high and tight than the one he lined hard the night before. All that being said I won't say Yo has really turned it around til he starts getting on base multiple times in bunches.
  21. I don't think he's played much Shortshop in his career eh? If we're going to abandon hitting for a solid fielder we gotta make sure it's actually a solid fielder. This seems more urgent as Leury Garcia has looked like he's dealing with some kind of injury lately.
