I agree. But there are at least two reasons to make an in season, deadline trade. The short term, let's try to win this year and the long term let's add prospects. Buyers at the deadline tend to be looking for short term, win now, and are willing to give up prospects. Sellers are generally looking to off load short term contracts and pick up prospects. This season I would rather not pick up players with one or two years left on their contracts in exchange for players that are still developing. That's what mid and bottom tier franchises go for. Trying to win a division or make the playoffs is nice, but truly having a chance at a "multiple championship window" is what top organizations look for.
