  1. Guys, stop litigating a trade that didn’t happen. JFC this is embarrassing. Caulfield stop trying to cause fights in the name of discussion

  2. It's amazing how much damage Jerry caused from a PR perspective with his comments about "not wanting to waste a year" And while there are MANY things to be frustrated about regarding this organization, their continued lack of media training and strategy has always been maddening to me. To your point, they could have done themselves a lot of favors by coming out and saying "Listen, we had people here that quite frankly we're probably here too long. We can't do anything about that now, they're gone, and this isn't about putting a fresh coat of paint on things, this is about tearing it down to the studs and starting over. And I know Sox fans aren't going to love hearing that, I know the pain the fan base suffered through a rebuild that didn't result in what everyone wanted, but this organization needs an entirely new approach or we're going to all suffer similar results, and that's not acceptable to anyone. It's going to be painful, it's going to take time, but I am so committed to doing things the RIGHT way to build something that will have sustainable, long lasting success. It's all I care about." You say that out of the gate, you buy yourself A LOT of good will. But they went...a different route. And it's on THEM for that, not the fans.

  3. He would have some semblance of credibility with the fanbase if he would have said this 12 months ago.

  4. Let’s not buy into the narrative that we’ve been sold and perpetuate the idea that the Sox are not a big market team. They very much are (regardless of how they act).

  5. Because let's be honest here. If we were ACTUALLY rebuilding from the ground up, Chris Getz would have been just as unemployed as everyone else responsible for this mess.

  6. 1. I'm not exactly sure what industry you are referring to, I'm assuming you mean other GM's in the league, and if that's the case....um, so what? And also...no you wouldn't. Using your logic, because Rick Hahn and Kenny Williams were here in 2005, they have earned lifetime contracts? They can never be fired? The architects of 2005 went 655-802 from 2011-2019. That should absolutely be enough to get canned, but because they won in 2005, they get to be here forever? 2. When Chris Getz, or any industry executive gets in front of a microphone, they aren't speaking to the media. They are speaking to the fans, the media are just the vehicle for that communication, and that role has been significantly diminished with social media and teams controlling more of their own messaging. The point is, there was, in my opinion, a failure to set fan expectation and made the job and mission more difficult for the White Sox. And could have been solved with a simple change in messaging. You are free to make any excuse you would like for Getz and the White Sox. "Yeah, but..." is very easy to do. I happen to believe organizational transparency is important and in most cases is well received. The original tweet of this thread, the quote from Getz..I think is the right message. I think he's getting better with quotes. I also believe saying "We're committed to building from the ground up" is a year too late.

  9. Not about actual baseball? Wow! The only one ignoring the baseball is you. You actually named Seby Zavala as a Chris Getz accomplishment. If people didn't know any better, they would think you are trolling.

  10. “We have to make some adjustments to improve in 2024. … When I say I don’t like our team, we’ve got pieces that are talented and attractive and they can be part of a winning club, but obviously, we haven’t gone out there and performed. It’s not a well-rounded club right now. We have to find players to come in here and help get us in the right direction.” “Yeah, we’re going to have to create runs,” Getz said. “We’re putting a lot on Marcus Thames and our hitting coaches to get the most out of these guys. But most importantly, I think these players are ready to go. They know the adjustments they need to make. It’s going to be a battle out there. And we’re gonna push these guys and we’re going to do everything we can to score runs.” “The team does need to come together, they need to go out there and perform,” Getz said. “There’s no secret about that. But you know, that’s kind of the beauty of baseball, and there’s plenty of optimism going around with our club.” I certainly don't think they were as forthcoming and transparent as they could have been...

  11. Show your books or shut up…that’s where I’m at with these owners crying poor. I don’t expect every team to be the Dodgers, but I’ll never believe these teams can’t turn a healthy profit spending $120+M on the roster

  12. Yeah, it's like next man up. Sosa and Vargas are on the clock. Sh*t or get off the pot.

  17. I call a spade a spade. Go look back at my posts once Crochet was traded. I gave Getz a ton of credit for a great trade. But my praise is few and far between because the majority of Getz’s moves have been poor.

  18. It's ok to be frustrated with your favorite team being the worst of all time and run by an unqualified GM. Its also ok if you don't care, but why do you find it necessary to try to dunk on everyone that does care?

  19. He is telling you he is overhauling the organization, and you accept that as 100 percent fact and get mad at anyone who says “you know what? I’m not seeing it” we have no results to go on except the worst season in the history of the league, in a season where nobody even considered the idea that they might not have 10 wins at the end of April. it’s not about hurt feelings. I just don’t think these people are going to come through, and nothing they have done has changed my mind. Sorry that bothers you so much but every time you talk about everyone else’s hurt feelings and bro dudes and every other strawman name you have for all these villains that ruin your life, it makes your argument worse.

  20. Serviceable? As a starter in 11 starts, Scholtens put up the following numbers: 0-6 record 5.87 ERA 1.66 WHIP 53.2 IP 71 hits (10 HR) 38 strikeouts 18 walks The dude is putrid.

  21. No one expected a competitive team, we expected an actual hiring process to fix this mess of an organization and we didn't get it because the owner claimed he couldn't waste a year when that's what happened anyways. As a fan I would be much more at peace with this thing if JR had just fired everyone who had a hand in this and said "Sorry, we can do better than this" and made an effort.

  22. Look, you might like getting talked to like you are stupid, but most people don't. If my kid gets up and lies to my face, I usually give them one chance to reconsider and offer them an out to stop digging the hole. As often as this happens, they have either chose to keep lying to us, or were so completely disconnected from reality, they believed what they were saying. Honestly, I am not even worse which is better, but neither is very good for a relationship with the fans. Either get up and say you were wrong, or tell me the truth.

  23. Again, fans expectations aren't equal to what we were told by management. The fact that fans already knew this team would suck (well most of us did anyway) and they STILL tried to feed us the company line is what makes it even worse, not better. This excuse doesn't help at all. It makes the insult even more grave.

  24. The way they roster built and then massively churned the first half of the season told me they thought maybe they could luck their way into mediocrity. The tone totally changed after the losses piled up. Either they lied to us early, or late.
    2 points
  25. Sure. Which is why guys like Jerry and Getz getting up and either lying to the public, or completely delusional, is a point. They COULD have just gotten up and been honest from the beginning. But they didn't. They are the ones who should be shamed.

  26. If you are trying to convince me that Chris Getz made a wrong move, that is an awful waste of characters.

  27. SSs are more expensive than 2Bs. Look, I am OK with a cheap and disposable guy. The most important thing Rojas can do this year is fill ABs needed, and then GTFOH when a player in the system actually needs those ABs. If at any time he blocks someone, he should be cut. If no one is ready for SS that is one thing, but realistically if some of these other guys show they belong on the opening day roster, play them over Rojas.

  28. The other important part of this whole discussion is that the Players Union currently still exists.

  30. It’s not even worth it, @caulfield12. He will make up any BS he can to defend his man love Getz. He just said we shouldn’t listen to what the Twins beat reporter said or what our own SoxTalk insider said and then proceeded to make up his own entirely hypothetical story on what he thinks happened. 🤡

  31. I’ll trust @Y2Jimmy0’s info over your incoherent ramblings. No one cares about Wheeler. The Sox failed at acquiring him just like they did with Machado and Harper. Old news that has nothing to do with this story. Dan Hayes, @Y2Jimmy0, don’t listen to those guys… @WestEddy knows all!!! 🤣

  32. While it'd be fun to rag on him for this...do we expect him to say differently? Unless they lose 122+, this doesn't feel like a quote that I (or anyone, hopefully) will be pulling out to dunk on him with like his "we'll play aesthetically pleasing baseball" or "the elephant in the room is we play in the AL Central" quotes.

  33. If Getz convinces Jerry to sell the team, there is a really good chance he loses his job.

  34. Of course the guy setting the direction and taking action will say that the team is going in the right direction. That said, I don't disagree. The moves he's made throughout the latter part of 2024 and into the 2024-2025 offseason, directionally, are what he should have done as soon as he took over at the end of 2023. Tear the fucker down and rebuild. He's done, more or less, what Hahn was credited and praised for doing (trading away big league assets for prospects). I don't think he's done all that well in terms of maximizing returns, but he's at least put the farm system into a respectable footing. The next couple of years are going to be painful at the big league level. Where Getz needs to focus (where Hahn failed) IMO are: 1. Treat the minor leagues as a factory and not a warehouse. Let players develop and mature - don't just rush prospects because you have a hole to fill. 2. Align player development, scouting / player acquisition, coaching, and front office philosophies across the organization, top to bottom. It seems like he's trying to do that, at least. 3. Convince JR to sell the team I see what Getz is doing, and, in general, I like it. It's going to make for an ugly 2025 and probably 2026 (the arrival of guys like Colson Montgomery, if it happens, will just be the beginning... or the the start of the end of the ugly years), and it can still fail... but the organization needed (still needs?) to be stripped down to the studs to be able to build, and it looks like Getz recognizes that. Again, it's going to continue to be ugly in the short term.

  37. The future certainly looks brighter with a very good farm system. The problem is, any of the guys who work out and end up being good MLB players will be traded before being paid to stay. That is, until there is new ownership.

  38. Even if they asked for all the tea in China, it was dumb not to pay off ALL of Fedde's remaining contract for the #45 FV prospect. But there's NO WAY that was the Twins' ask (and the Pohlads/Falvey know JR's financial/spending history, it is the same as their own except for Correa and Lopez)...as he wasn't nearly to that level of hyped MiLB prospect in July and there was the injury issue as well.

  43. It still would have been worth it for the Sox to include cash with Fedde for Keaschall over packaging him with Kopech and taking back Vargas. At the point Fedde was traded, he was still owed around $10 million left on his contract — $2.5 million for the rest of 2024 and $7.5 million for 2025. And I don’t believe we ever heard how much cash the Twins wanted the Sox to include. So at the very most, the Twins could have been asking for $10 million, but I seriously doubt the Twins expected the Sox to pick up Fedde’s entire contract. The Sox are going to have one of the lowest payrolls in baseball this year but they couldn’t send some cash in a trade last year for a better return than Vargas to improve their team? Moves like taking back a Fletcher over McCarthy and a Vargas over Keaschall add up. There’s a reason we will now have to watch more garbage in RF next year — the suckfest veteran platoon of Tauchman and Slater over McCarthy. And a very nice 2B/CF prospect whose clock hasn’t started would definitely be better than Vargas right about now.
