  1. I'd be pretty happy if they signed him. I honestly think he may end up being the better hitter than Murakami.

  2. Vargas is crushed by his defensive ability pushing his bat down, but he is a baseball player. I’d hate to give him up for what he’s worth, which is little. I don’t feel like he’s blocking anything for at least another year.

  3. I love watching your opinion of players eb and weave with Getz moves. Month ago Tauch was a part of a 70 win team next year but since Getz nontendered him he must be cooked.

  4. I mean what positions are you really trying to fill? Are people really that upset if they start the year with Teel/Quero, Meidroth/Sosa, C. Montgomery, Vargas, Bennentendi, Robert as the guys getting most of the playing time? Im just not sure who would want to play here and fits a position of need? Is Cody Bellinger interested in playing 1b or RF here? Is Schwarber looking to DH here? I mean I get people are upset they arent spending but they arent in a position to rosterwise where they can attract real FA's who require significant contracts. I'd rather watch all the young guys play everyday while they sort out the rotation with who can hack it from Martin, Smith, McDougal, Burke, Cannon, Thorpe, Adams, Schultz, H. Smith, Bush, Vasil.

  5. I thought the purpose of not trading him at the deadline was because they were gonna tender him and keep him around another season

  6. Not exactly holding my breathe here for obvious reasons but he was posted yesterday. David Keller was reportedly in Japan scouting him. They hired a Japan scout which just seems gross that we didnt have one before. Anyways he hit .327/.416/.598/.1014 15 HRs last year in 69 games. RH gold glove 1B/3B. Seems primarily 1B for MLB. Yahoo projects 3 years 36 million and a 6 million posting fee. MLBTR says 4 years 64 million which is probably out of the wheelhouse.

  7. This is probably the fairest assessment. But if he breaks out this season, you deal him. Sox aren’t winning anything in the years Vargas will be here until he hits free agency.

  8. I highly doubt JR is making any stadium decisions without Ishbia. Ishbia is paying for it one way or another.

  9. He barely played for them. He's pretty much been in the Mexican league last two seasons.

  10. The Sox are a year more likely two away from intelligently looking to spend money importing a talent at any position unless it’s franchise cornerstone type. Trust the process for now. Just like the Bulls. The Bears have just arrived at this stage of potential progress, and being a salary capped team, they boned themselves by spending prematurely. The Sox should just chill for now. We’re picking at the top of the draft for crying out loud.

  11. I would not complain if they spent money on literally anyone, but a R/R 1b/3b would not be my first priority. Lefty bat or starting pitcher would be my preference.

  12. And less commitment

  13. In my opinion, improving a player means moving them off their trajectory/projected path. Vargas is very much in line with his projections when the Sox acquired him. Therefore, I hesitate to call that a vast improvement. Now if the Sox got/get something out of Curtis Mead, that would be a big improvement and deserving of credit.

  14. I'm not sure why Ishbia would have pulled out of buying the Twins because he wanted to spend upwards of $1B on a new stadium. All things being equal, I'd think he'd prefer a team that already played in a well-liked stadium in a downtown location. For all the problems the Twins have, Target Field isn't one of them. It isn't bottom 3-5 like you pointed out is the situation with the Sox. Otherwise I agree that the Twins big debt load was another reason to pick the Sox over them....though I don't know how much debt the Sox have compared to the Twins. To @southsider2k5 and @PaleAleSox's points, not only is Chicago a bigger market, but it's Ishbia's hometown. He flat out said so to the media the other day. "If done right" is exactly the problem with the Sox. The incoming owner has his work cut out for him. Not only does he need to rebuild this organization from the ground up but he's coming in as the stadium issue comes to a head with the lease expiring in 2029. In order to make inroads against the Cubs in Chicago, they'll need the Sox to be a top-notch organization playing at a world-class stadium. Right now, they are near the bottom of the league for both.

  15. Honestly - it was a pretty refreshing interview but he also showed respect to Jerry and didn’t over step his bounds either. Very good public first impression from my end. Long time until he takes over but there is some hope in sight after years and years of this org being run down and completely not maintained.

  18. I would guess maybe what he just got from the Sox last year.

  19. I probably would have phrased it in a way that was a bit kinder toward Tauchmann, but I think that this captures the idea. As I recall, he was projected to get $3.4 million. With all the rumors floating around about other players, I would guess that Getz and his team probably weren't hearing any offers for Tauchmann. So, Tauchmann's real value has dropped. It will be interesting to see what he gets as a free agent.

  22. I don't know if I would use the term "significantly worse" when talking about a 62 win team, but it also isn't good to see them dumping dollars already.

  23. I don't think it takes a lot of mental gymnastics to observe an improvement in Vargas's play last season. As a Dodger: .201/.294./364, 81 wRC+, -0.3 WAR As a 2024 White Sox: .104/.217/.170, 17 wRC+, -1.2 WAR As a 2025 White Sox: .234/.316/.401, 101 wRC+, 1.3 WAR From April 23, 2025 until end of season: .252/.331/.438, 114 wRC+, 1.9 WAR And underlying Statcast data has always supported the on-field results (both when it was bad and when it was good). Wouldn't surprise me if numerical projection systems liked Vargas at the time of acquisition because he put up great numbers in AAA and his MLB numbers to that point weren't horrible. The Soxtalk projections were not nearly so optimistic

  25. What is Querro's value? A recent top 100 prospect who generated 1.2 bwar when called up. 22yo switch-hitter at premium position. Yeah he is slow, so are almost all catchers. The fact he didn't bomb when called up I would think adds to his value so I would be holding out for a similar young player with some success in the outfield or if getting prospects a top 100 plus more?

  27. Sure, but your GM has to be right pretty much a majority of the time then. Not the let's say 25-30% success level Hahn and now Getz seem/ed to be operating at in trades signings drafts.
